Abstract

As a conservation-oriented university, UNNES has carried out various activities that support the preservation of nature and the environment. The increasing development of UNNES has led to an increasing diversity of community activities around it, thus potentially creating environmental impacts due to the increasingly massive land conversion for business, housing and entertainment. This condition indirectly affects the existence of flora and fauna in the UNNES Campus environment. To anticipate this condition, UNNES has undertaken various environmental improvement efforts, one of which is by regularly carrying out planting programs. It is fitting that UNNES has its own nursery in collaboration with the fostered community partners. The Akar Banir Foundation as a partner in community service activities, is a foundation that already has good capabilities in cultivating various types of plants. The objectives of this community service activity are: a) to facilitate a shaded house for a representative rare plant nursery and b) to develop and increase the biodiversity of rare plant seeds that will be developed by Akar Banir. From this community service activity, the following results have been achieved: a shaded house for a rare plant nursery located at Ecofarm UNNES Semarang with an area of 3 x 12 m2 . This shade house provides a facility for developing rare plant seedlings, which is expected to contribute to preserving Indonesia's rare plant germplasm. To date, 21 rare Indonesian plant species have been developed, and the hope is that this will continue to grow.

Abstract

Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) is a common complaint among adolescent girls and can interfere with learning activities as well as daily quality of life. So far, the management of menstrual pain has mostly relied on medication, even though there are safe non-drug methods that can be practiced independently, such as shiatsu massage therapy and abdominal stretching exercise. This community service activity aimed to assist students in learning and practicing these two techniques as an effort to reduce menstrual pain. The program was carried out at SMK 5 Karawang through education, demonstrations, and group practice. Participants received a brief explanation about menstrual pain, followed by hands-on guidance to directly try shiatsu massage and abdominal stretching movements. The mentoring process was interactive, including discussions and Q&A sessions, and participants were provided with a simple guidebook so they could continue practicing at home. The results showed an improvement in students’ knowledge and skills based on pre- and post-activity evaluations. Most participants were able to perform the techniques correctly, and many reported a reduction in menstrual pain after practicing the exercises. A simple analysis comparing pre-test and post-test results indicated a clear positive difference. In conclusion, mentoring on shiatsu massage and abdominal stretching exercise can be an easy, safe, and beneficial non-drug solution for adolescent girls in reducing menstrual pain. This program also raised students’ awareness of the importance of reproductive health from an early age.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen maternal health through the implementation of the Pre-Referral Flipchart (LBPR) as an effort for early detection and management of high-risk maternal cases in the working area of Ciasem Health Center, Subang Regency. The activity was motivated by the high maternal and infant mortality rate, largely caused by delays in referral and low compliance of health workers in using pre-referral instruments. The program was implemented through training for village midwives, Polindes midwives, and maternal and child health (MCH) coordinators on the use of LBPR, preparation and distribution of guidelines and SOPs, the establishment of internal monitoring teams and champion midwives, as well as regular evaluations. Data were collected through observation, interviews, pre-test and post-test, and analyzed descriptively to assess compliance, knowledge improvement, and skills. The results showed an increase in midwives’ understanding of the function and content of LBPR, improved compliance in using the document during referral processes, and the establishment of a simple monitoring system for monthly evaluation. This program succeeded in improving referral flow, enhancing health workers’ readiness in handling high-risk pregnancies, and encouraging collaboration among health facilities. In conclusion, this educational and systematic intervention proved effective in increasing compliance with LBPR use and has the potential to reduce delays in maternal referrals

Abstract

Mangunsari Village is one of the goat farming centers in Gunungpati District, Semarang. They raise goats from generation to generation and based on experience, so care patterns are often not uniform from one to another. In addition to feed, animal hygiene and health are very important to implement in enforcing biosecurity in the pen and its surrounding environment. The goal of this activity is to improve goat health and the safety of the pen environment through biosecurity. The community service is divided into two: providing materials and training followed by practice. Twenty participants, members of the Mekar Sari 2 livestock farmer group, were accompanied by a team of nine lecturers, technicians, and students. The activity began with filling out a questionnaire, theory, and ended with practice. Data obtained showed that 53.8% were aged > 50 years and 23.1% were < 40 years. In addition, 84.6% of participants had been members of the livestock farmer group for a long time (≥ 10 years). There was a 0.2% increase in knowledge regarding infectious diseases, a 2% increase in leaf and grass feed, a 61.6% increase in forage that must be wilted, and a 7.7% increase in pen cleanliness. Participants also understood that forage is best not provided wet (40.5%). The results concluded that this activity improved knowledge about biosecurity components and the participants' skills in physical examination of goats and pen cleanliness.

Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia. The utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) has potential as a preventive strategy by improving iron intake. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of community empowerment based on TOGA in preventing anemia among adolescent girls.A mixed-method approach was applied with total sampling of 30 adolescent girls aged 12–18 years. The intervention included health education, TOGA cultivation training, and preparation of TOGA-based foods and beverages. Quantitative data were analyzed using paired t-tests for knowledge scores and hemoglobin levels, and Chi-square tests for the proportion of mild anemia, with a significance level of α = 0.05. Qualitative data were analyzed through transcription, coding, and triangulation. Knowledge scores increased from 55% to 75% (p = 0.001), awareness of hemoglobin testing increased from 50% to 83% (p = 0.003), and willingness to consume TOGA-based products increased from 40% to 70% (p = 0.002). Mean hemoglobin levels increased from 11.3 g/dL to 12.0 g/dL (p = 0.021), with a decrease in mild anemia prevalence from 30% to 20% (p = 0.015). Qualitative analysis highlighted the importance of family support, health cadres, and a supportive environment in enhancing intervention success. The community empowerment model based on TOGA is effective in improving knowledge, healthy behaviors, and hemoglobin status among adolescent girls.

Abstract

A preliminary research at PMB Bidan Wike A in June 2023 revealed the developmental outcomes of toddlers using the Pre-Screening Development Questionnaire (KPSP). Out of 189 toddlers, 77.8% exhibited typical development, 21% had questionable development, and 1.2% displayed developmental deviations. Many mothers lacked knowledge about the care and examination procedures related to the pre-screening developmental questionnaire. This community service aims to provide mothers with knowledge about child growth and development while introducing the Pre-Screening Development Questionnaire instrument. This community service utilizes counseling and socialization methods for mothers with toddlers. Participants will undergo both pretest and posttest assessments. This initiative employs the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire instrument and self-evaluation notes. In the initial stage, the counselor will engage in a question-and-answer session, followed by assessing the mother's comprehension using the feedback method. Subsequently, it proceeds with discussions or brainstorming sessions. The outcomes of the community service revealed that following counseling and the socialization of KPSP to mothers of toddlers, their knowledge increased by 93%. Early and regular screening is of utmost importance to prevent developmental deviations in toddlers, allowing for prompt treatment of any deviations that may arise. Growth screening enables the assessment of children's nutritional status, while developmental screening for children under five can be conducted using the KPSP (Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire) method. Keywords: growth screening, nutritional status, developmental screening, KPSP method.

Abstract

The increasing maternal and neonatal mortality rate is partly due to delays in emergency obstetric referrals. The referral system plays a crucial role in early detection of high-risk maternal outcomes to prevent fatal complications. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with maternal neonatal outcomes using LBPR and the success of the referral system at the Ciasem Community Health Center, Subang Regency. An observational cross-sectional study using a non-probability total sampling method was conducted on 47 women who were pregnant, in labor, or experiencing an obstetric emergency postpartum. After collecting data from surveys and medical records, the chi-square test was used for analysis. Maternal neonatal outcomes were associated with the type of referral, as indicated by an Asymp.Sig value of 0.000 < 0.05. Respondents' awareness of health workers' recommendations was also high, supporting the role of LBPR in optimizing emergency care. It was concluded that the use of LBPR is effective in early high-risk detection, increases referral success, and has the potential to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
