Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum provides opportunities for all Indonesian students to explore their talents, one of which is through the National Science Olympiad (OSN). This study aims to analyze student participation and achievement in OSN across regions in Indonesia. This research was conducted using a quantitative approach and cluster random sampling technique. Respondent categories were divided based on student domicile areas: Java and non-Java. The participation and achievement of students in both regions showed that students domiciled in Java Island still dominate participation and achievement in OSN. The study also found that school facilities, costs, and lack of support from teachers and parents are the main obstacles for students outside Java. The impact of OSN is also very beneficial, especially in supporting students' studies and careers, as well as increasing the chances of better educational opportunities in the future. These results provide essential information on equitable improvements in support and access for students and schools in all parts of Indonesia to participate in the OSN.

Abstract

This observation aimed to understand the laboratory regulations, assess the availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the laboratory, evaluate management practices, examine the completeness of laboratory equipment and materials, and observe the arrangement of laboratory space, equipment, and materials. This research was conducted in the basic biology laboratory at a university in East Kalimantan. The method employed in this research involved interviewing laboratory assistants and observing the laboratory conditions. The observations indicated that Laboratory A and B had complete personal protective equipment. However, there were some differences. For instance, the equipment and materials were complete in Laboratory A, whereas in Laboratory B, they were incomplete because the laboratory was newly built. Another difference was in the usage of the laboratories; Laboratory A was used for practical sessions, seminars, and classroom activities, while Laboratory B was solely utilized for practical exams. For future researchers, it is suggested that laboratories be explored for both practical sessions and classroom activities, rather than just classroom spaces.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the percentage of HOTS-level physics questions and the cognitive level and dimensions of knowledge of HOTS-level physics questions on the class X SMAN/MAN summative exam in Bontang. These questions were analysed based on Bloom's revised taxonomy: cognitive level and knowledge dimensions. The type of research used in this research is descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The subject of this research was four schools in Bontang city, including high schools A, B, C, and D. Data collection techniques use documentation techniques. The results of the research show that the percentage of HOTS-level physics questions is 12.2%, with the percentage of each question code being 5% for question code A, 15% for question code B, 20% for question code C, and 16% for question code D for cognitive level C4.In contrast, cognitive levels C5 and C6 are not found in the summative exam question document. The cognitive level in the summative exam questions includes C1 to C4 and factual, conceptual and procedural knowledge dimensions. The knowledge dimension in the HOTS level question is dominated by the procedural knowledge dimension, while there is only one question in the conceptual knowledge dimension. Future physics should consider the balance of cognitive level and dimension in school assessment.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance problem-solving ability through Flipped-Problem Based Learning model on elasticity material for high school students. The type of research used is quantitative research with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The data collection technique uses Polya indicators, that is understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. The assessment was carried out with help of the Minnesota Assessment of Problem Solving (MAPS) rubric. Data were analyzed using N-gain and Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests with an N-Gain score of 0.55 which was included in the medium category. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test showed a p-value of 0.00 with a significance of 0.05 which stated that there was a significant difference between students' problem-solving abilities after the Flipped-Problem Based Learning model was applied. The results showed that there was an increase in the problem-solving ability of students

Abstract

The Adiwiyata program seeks to cultivate knowledge and awareness of ecological conservation among students. This study compared environmental literacy between ninth-grade students in Adiwiyata and non-Adiwiyata schools in Balikpapan City, Indonesia. Utilizing a questionnaire adapted from the Middle Schools Environmental Literacy Survey, data was collected across five domains: knowledge, attitudes, participation, awareness, and skills. An independent sample t-test gauged mean variations in both school types. Results indicated that Adiwiyata students achieved good environmental literacy, while non-Adiwiyata students reached an acceptable level. Noteworthy differences were observed across all domains, with the knowledge domain being particularly distinct. Strengthening environmental literacy requires schools to implement programs reinforcing environmental values. This study underscores the importance of educational initiatives fostering a sense of responsibility for the environment among students in both Adiwiyata and non-Adiwiyata schools.
