Abstract

Waste management has become a critical issue in achieving sustainable development, particularly in urban areas such as Medan City, where the volume of waste continues to increase each year. This study aims to analyze the optimization of economically valuable waste utilization through recycling activities to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), using a literature-based approach. The method employed is a literature review by collecting, examining, and comparing previous research from national and international journals related to recycling practices, circular economy principles, and urban waste management. The findings indicate that the utilization of economically valuable waste—such as plastic, paper, metal, and organic materials—can generate economic benefits for communities while improving overall waste management efficiency. The reviewed studies also highlight several key factors influencing recycling success, including government policies, the availability of recycling facilities, public awareness, and collaboration with recycling industries. Optimizing waste utilization has been shown to contribute significantly to various SDGs targets, including waste reduction, improved community welfare, and environmental protection. Therefore, strengthening the recycling ecosystem through multi-stakeholder collaboration is essential for Medan City in promoting sustainable urban development.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in the national economy, particularly in absorbing labor and providing employment opportunities for the community. One type of MSME that is growing rapidly in Indonesia is the culinary business, including meatballs. This study aims to analyze the various challenges faced by the Bakso Syahid MSME in running and maintaining its business sustainability. The research method used was a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results indicate that the Bakso Syahid MSME faces several key challenges, including limited business capital, fluctuating raw material prices, increasingly fierce business competition, limited marketing strategies, and obstacles in business management. This research is expected to provide a realistic picture of the condition of culinary MSMEs and serve as a consideration in formulating more sustainable business development strategies.

Abstract

Perkembangan bisnis kuliner di Kota Medan ditandai dengan keberadaan usaha makanan halal dan non halal yang beroperasi secara berdampingan. Kondisi ini menimbulkan perbedaan dalam praktik bisnis yang dijalankan oleh para pedagang, terutama terkait bahan baku, proses pengolahan, serta transparansi informasi kepada konsumen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan membandingkan praktik bisnis makanan halal dan non halal di Kota Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif komparatif dengan subjek penelitian berupa pedagang makanan halal dan non halal, serta didukung oleh data persepsi konsumen sebagai data pendukung. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui kuesioner, observasi, dan studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik bisnis makanan halal lebih menekankan aspek kepatuhan terhadap prinsip syariah, kebersihan, dan transparansi, sedangkan praktik bisnis makanan non halal cenderung lebih fleksibel dalam penggunaan bahan baku dan proses produksi. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi bagi pengembangan bisnis kuliner yang beretika dan berkelanjutan di Kota Medan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengelolaan usaha travel haji dan umrah pada PT. Multazam Wisata Agung yang berlokasi di Jalan Titi Papan Gang Pertahanan No. 10 Medan Petisah. Fokus penelitian mencakup aspek perencanaan, pengorganisasian, pelaksanaan, serta pengawasan dalam penyelenggaraan layanan haji dan umrah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi terhadap pihak manajemen dan karyawan perusahaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa PT. Multazam Wisata Agung telah menerapkan sistem pengelolaan usaha yang cukup terstruktur, khususnya dalam perencanaan program perjalanan dan pelayanan jamaah. Namun demikian, masih ditemukan beberapa kendala, seperti keterbatasan sumber daya manusia dan belum optimalnya pemanfaatan teknologi digital dalam pemasaran dan administrasi. Pengawasan internal telah berjalan, tetapi perlu ditingkatkan agar kualitas layanan tetap konsisten dan sesuai dengan regulasi pemerintah. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi praktis bagi pengelola travel haji dan umrah dalam meningkatkan efektivitas manajemen usaha serta kualitas pelayanan kepada jamaah.

Abstract

Abstrak. This research aims to analyse the development strategy of MSMEs "Selling Seblak" in facing competition in the digital era. Digitalisation requires MSMEs to be able to utilise social media, online ordering platforms, and product innovations in order to maintain and increase competitiveness. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method through observation, light interviews with business actors, and literature studies. The research results show that the main effective strategies include the utilisation of digital marketing, improving product quality and variety, optimising customer service, and the use of delivery applications such as GoFood and GrabFood. The implementation of this strategy is proven to increase business visibility, expand market reach, and increase the number of customers. Thus, the utilisation of digital technology becomes an important factor in the development of MSMEs to remain competitive in the increasingly dynamic culinary market.

Abstract

The application of sharia economic principles in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector is a crucial aspect in creating fair, ethical, and sustainable business practices. This study aims to examine the extent to which sharia economic principles are applied in the operational activities of the Mie Pangsit Lisa MSME, located in Medan City. The analysis focuses on the production process, transaction mechanisms, pricing systems, and work relationship patterns between business owners and employees. This study used a field research method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained from primary and secondary sources through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and analytically to describe the actual conditions in the field. The results indicate that the Mie Pangsit Lisa MSME has implemented most of the values and principles of sharia economics, particularly in the aspects of product halalness, transaction honesty, and price fairness. However, several aspects still require strengthening, particularly in the understanding and application of sharia principles more comprehensively to achieve optimal sharia principles.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the marketing strategies of tofu products implemented by small businesses in the Sari Rejo area, North Sumatra, and how these strategies contribute to increasing customer interest. Tofu is a daily food staple with high consumption in urban areas. However, high levels of competition require businesses to develop innovative marketing strategies that align with the characteristics of the local community. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study describes the marketing practices used and the factors that support the success of tofu product marketing in the area. The results indicate that effective marketing strategies include improving product quality, implementing competitive pricing, an interpersonal marketing approach, utilizing simple digital media, and a direct-to-consumer distribution strategy. This combination of strategies has been proven to increase customer interest and expand market reach.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of mobile coffee vendors operating around the UINSU campus area, particularly in Amaliyun near Yuki Simpang Raya. Mobile coffee vendors represent an informal micro-enterprise that grows by utilizing consumer mobility. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a field study approach. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews with vendors, and simple documentation related to operating hours and sales targets. The results show that the vendors set a minimum sales target of 30 cups per day with operating hours from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The strategic location and long operating hours make the business relatively effective in reaching consumers. However, business effectiveness is still influenced by weather conditions, crowd levels, and competition. The study concludes that mobile coffee vending has strong economic potential when managed consistently.

Abstract

This study examines digital marketing strategies implemented by the Donat Qu MSME in enhancing sales performance in the digital era. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of digital marketing practices in supporting business growth across multiple branches. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The research focuses on several Donat Qu branches located in Tuasan, Gaperta, Namira, and Darussalam, including a newly established branch that began operations in May 2025. The findings indicate that the utilization of digital platforms such as social media and online communication channels has contributed positively to increasing brand awareness, expanding market reach, and improving customer engagement. Differences in operational hours across branches also influence marketing effectiveness and consumer purchasing behavior. Overall, digital marketing plays a significant role in strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of local MSMEs in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing student loyalty toward meatball soup micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the campus area. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation to obtain a comprehensive understanding of student consumer behavior and business practices implemented by meatball soup MSME owners. The results indicate that student loyalty is influenced by several key factors, namely the quality of taste and broth, affordable pricing, strategic business location, and the quality of service that is friendly and responsive. In addition, emotional closeness between sellers and consumers plays an important role in creating comfort and encouraging repeat purchases. Overall, consistent product quality, good service, and positive interpersonal relationships are proven to jointly contribute to increasing student loyalty toward meatball soup MSMEs in the campus environment. This study is expected to serve as an evaluation material and reference for campus culinary MSME actors in improving competitiveness and business sustainability.
