Abstract

ABSTRACT Bacteria is one of the microorganisms that cause infection. Some species of bacteria are pathogens that cause disease in humans, such as infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria can live on imported used clothing. This research goal is to determine whether or not a decrease in the number of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus in second-hand clothes on the use of a mixture of hot water with lime (Citrus aurantifolia) and the hot water in traditional markets Perumnas Simalingkar. This research is quasi experimental with the design used in this study was conducted with the approach of pre-test and post test which measurements were performed before and after treatment. The study was conducted in September to January 2016. The sample in this study is used clothing sold in traditional markets Perumnas Simalingkar. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the decrease in the number of Staphylococcus aureus in the control treatment, a mixture of hot water and lime 10%, and the hot water for 10 minutes was 220 CFU / ml, 0 CFU / ml, and 23.3 CFU / ml. Decreasing in the number of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus is most effective in the treatment of mixtures of hot water with lime with a percentage decrease of 100%. Community is suggested that perform the immersion of used clothing before wearing old clothes with a mixture of hot water and lime 10% for 10 minutes to reduce the number of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus in used clothing, the results of this study are expected to be an alternative to reduce the amount of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus in used clothing, and further research needs to be done using a solution of lime juice in decreasing the number of other pathogenic bacteria found in used clothing. Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a directly-infectious disease caused by tuberculosis bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) that are airborne through droplets or nuclei when a patient coughs and the saliva droplets containing the bacteria are inhaled by another person while breathing. The research investigates the effect of the physical conditions of the house and working environment on the pulmonary TB events among construction workers in the Asahan Regency. It is an analytic epidemiological survey with a case-control design, and involves examining the entire population amounting to 74 people: the first 37 suffered from pulmonary TB and worked as construction workers (case-group), and the other 37 didn't suffer from pulmonary TB and worked as construction workers (control-group). They were analyzed by using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis, and multivariate analysis. The results showed that the types of floor (p=0.040), lighting (p=0.027), wall (p=0.034), working lengths (p=0.102), and masks uses (p=0.000) have affected pulmonary TB events. In this case, the use of masks (p=0.003) was the most dominant variable. This study suggests counseling on healthy houses for families who are prone to pulmonary TB. Good types of lighting, floor, and wall can be useful in every house to reduce the risk of TB developing to last for a long period or leading to death.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is an infectious disease caused by dengue virus and is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquito. Ventilation and light intensity are physical controls to reduce the risk of outbreaks of DHF. Medan is one of the cities that is endemic for DHF, so DHF cases continue to occur and even increase every year. In 2018 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever have increased as many as 1490 cases with a death rate of 13 people. This study aims to analyze the relationship between ventilation, light intensity and water storage conditions with the incidence of DHF. This type of research is descriptive, with case control design. The study population was 98 households, the study sample consisted of 49 cases and 49 controls. Data collection through observation and measurement. Data analysis methods include univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using chi square. The univariate analysis results demonstrated that the dengue hemorrhagic fever cases had higher prevalence rate in August (41%) and had dominant attack on 3-14 year old people (39%) as well as on females (59%). The bivariate analysis results indicated that lighting (OR= 9.474), ventilation (OR= 5.949) and condition of water reservoirs (OR= 4.769) were correlated with prevalence of dengue hemorrhagic fever. It was suggested to the public to pay attention to the intensity of light inside the house and install a wire mesh on the ventilation if the home environment contained a lot of DHF vectors and closed water reservoirs.

Abstract

The best program to control the spread of dengue infection is a dengue prevention program. Indonesia has a dengue prevention program known as 3M Plus. Medan City is one of the endemic areas of dengue fever in Indonesia. This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and income implementation of the dengue prevention program in Medan. Information on sociodemography, knowledge, attitudes, and implementation of dengue prevention was collected using a semi-structured questionnaire that had been tested previously. This cross-sectional survey was conducted with face-to-face interviews with 100 randomly selected heads of households. Bivariate analysis using chi-square test. The results showed that overall participants had low family income, poor dengue knowledge, moderate attitude and moderate prevention implementation. There was a significant positive relationship between family income and implementation of dengue prevention (p = 0.001), knowledge and implementation of dengue prevention (p = 0.012), and attitudes and implementation of dengue prevention (p <0.001). In conclusion, dengue prevention programs require increased knowledge, attitudes and implementation of dengue prevention. Households with an income below the city minimum wage must be the main target of the dengue prevention campaign. Knowledge-based campaigns and arousing positive attitudes will increase the application of dengue prevention.

Abstract

Soil – Transmitted Helminths (STH) infection is one of the most common infections in the world, especially for the poor society. Worm infections spread through eggs in human feces that contaminate soils where the level of sanitation is bad. Worm infections are widespread in tropical and subtropical regions, one of which is Indonesia. Around 568 million school-age children have high potential for STH because they live in an areas prone to STH infections (WHO, 2017a). Soil Transmitted Helminths Infection is a health problem with a high prevalence in the tropics and subtropics, especially Indonesia. Children with the primary school age are the group that most often suffer from infection because more daily activities are in contact with the soil and in clean living behavior is still low. The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between sex and Helminths Infection, nail hygiene and using footwear with the incidence of helminthiasis in students in the city of Sibolga. The results obtained from this study are the number of students infected by helminthiasis by 33.82%, based on male gender as many as 20 students (60.6%) of the 44 students examined and the number of infected women as many as 18 students (39.4 %) of 41 female students examined. The results of the category assessment, for the category of nail hygiene with a good 32.94 percent (28 students) and the category is less good at 67.06 percent (57 people). From the bivariate analysis there was no relationship between sex and helminthiasis. The results of nail hygiene analysis, there is a significant relationship between nail hygiene with helminthiasis infection with a value of p = 0.009 and the value of the prevalence ratio of 2.751. Analysis using footwear, there is a significant relationship between the habit of using footwear with helminthiasis infection with a value of p = 0.004 with a prevalence ratio value of 3.195. From the results of the multiple logistic regression test, the most influential value between nail hygiene and using footwear is using footwear with a p value = 0.009 with a constant value of 3.410.

Abstract

One of the most potent sources of air pollution is from the industrial sector. The air pollutants produced from the industry are TSP dust. Long exposure for a long time can pose a risk in the form of impaired pulmonary function capacity. The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between years of work, dust levels with impaired lung capacity in the environment of hot mix asphalt production officers in the Public Works Office of Medan City. This type of research is observational analytic with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 45 workers in the hot mix asphalt production section in the AMP area of the Medan City Public Works Service. The results of the study found that the dust levels in AMP were still below the NAB, ranging from 2-8.10 mg / m3, workers who had pulmonary function disorders were 15 people (34%). The results of the analysis using the Pearson correlation test showed that there was a moderate relationship between dust exposure and lung function capacity with a value of r = -0.432, p = 0.003, and there was a weak relationship between the work period and the function of pulmonary function with a value of r = -0.384, p = 0.009 . Therefore, it is recommended to the Public Works Office of Medan City to provide respirators for workers to prevent the excessive entry of dust into the body.
