Abstract

This study investigates the structural performance of High Damper Rubber Bearings (HDRB) as base isolators in reinforced concrete (RC) buildings subjected to seismic loads. Given the potential for damage or collapse in RC buildings during earthquakes, the utilization of base isolators offers a promising solution to mitigate seismic risks. Finite element analysis was employed to assess the displacement efficiency of different HDRB configurations, focusing on the SMP 5 Muhammadiyah building in Surabaya as a case study. Results indicate that HDRB type HH090X6R exhibits superior performance, achieving displacement efficiencies of 90.56% in the x-direction and 95.87% in the y-direction. These findings underscore the importance of selecting optimal base isolator configurations to enhance the seismic resilience of RC structures. The study's implications extend to seismic retrofitting and structural design practices, offering valuable insights for improving the seismic performance of existing buildings and bolstering community resilience to earthquakes.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the utilization of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic waste as a partial substitute for fine aggregate in the manufacture of Cellular Lightweight Concrete (CLC) lightweight bricks. The method used is a laboratory experiment with variations in the addition of HDPE of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% to the CLC mixture. Each variation was tested to determine the compressive strength, dry unit weight, and water absorption capacity after curing for 28 days. The results showed that the addition of HDPE affected the mechanical characteristics of lightweight bricks. The compressive strength decreased with increasing HDPE percentage, where the highest value was recorded at the 0% HDPE variation of 1.16 MPa and the lowest at the 15% variation of 0.92 MPa, below the SNI 8640-2018 standard. The highest dry unit weight was achieved at a composition of 5% HDPE of 3.32 kg/m³, indicating optimal density. However, the addition of HDPE also increased water absorption, with the highest average of 25.08% at the 15% variation. Thus, the use of HDPE waste as a substitute material shows environmentally friendly potential, but needs to be optimized so as not to reduce the structural quality of CLC lightweight bricks.

Abstract

Concrete is a material used in modern construction and is a very important component in the manufacture of structures. Concrete has advantages, but also disadvantages, namely low tensile strength. To increase the tensile strength of concrete, fibers are added to the mix. One of the efforts made to increase the tensile strength of concrete is the addition of fibers to the fiber-concrete mixture. The purpose of this study is to examine the compressive strength and tensile strength values in fiber concrete if added with variations in fiber addition. An innovation in increasing the value of mechanical quantities in concrete is the use of bent wire fibers as a mixture in fiber concrete. This material is taken from former pieces in construction projects to connect steel reinforcement with Sengkang reinforcement and is also widely found in building shops. The fibers were also analyzed for microstructure using SEM (Scanning Electron Microstructure) tools. The length of this bent wire fiber is 13 mm with a diameter of 0.82 mm and has a minimum tensile strength value of 334.5 MPa. The variations in the addition of these bent wire fibers are 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9% of the total weight of the steel fiber. The soaking life of concrete is 7 days, 14 days, and 28 days. The results of this study show that the more variations in the addition of bent wire fibers, the compressive strength value of concrete and the tensile strength value of concrete will also increase. It can be seen that fiber concrete with an immersion life of 28 days with a variation of 9% added bent wire fiber has a maximum compressive strength value of concrete which is 63,645 MPa and a maximum value of tensile strength of 3,294 MP.

Abstract

Concrete material is one of the most widely used construction materials in Indonesia due to its high compressive strength and adaptability to various construction needs. Despite its benefits, concrete has limitations, notably its weakness in tension and tendency to crack under tensile stress. This research focuses on High-Performance Concrete (HPC) with compressive strength exceeding 80 MPa, reinforced with 3D Dramix steel fibers to enhance both compressive and tensile strength. The study aimed to evaluate the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of HPC mixed with varying percentages (0%, 3%, 6%, and 9%) of Dramix 3D steel fibers. Additionally, the methodology involved microstructure analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and mechanical testing on HPC samples cured at 7, 14, and 28 days. Results indicate that the compressive strength reached a maximum of 94.776 MPa, and tensile strength reached 6.599 MPa with a 9% fiber addition at 28 days, highlighting the material's potential application in high-performance structural elements. The findings suggest that 3D Dramix steel fibers significantly enhance the mechanical properties of HPC, making it a viable option for durable construction.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the utilization of metal-coated plastic packaging waste (WMP) and eggshell powder (ESP) as partial substitution materials in the manufacture of environmentally friendly paving blocks. The method used is an experimental approach in the laboratory with variations of WMP of 5%, 10%, and 15% as aggregate substitutes, and ESP of 5% as cement substitutes. The test specimens were molded using a hydraulic press machine and tested based on SNI 03-0691-1996 standards for compressive strength, water absorption, resistance to sodium sulfate solution, and impact tests. The results showed that the combination of WMP and ESP was able to improve the mechanical performance of paving blocks, especially in the variations of WMP 10% and ESP 5% which produced optimal compressive strength and low water absorption. This study contributes to the development of sustainable construction materials and supports the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
