Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the extent of service infrastructure readiness and identify and analyze what accessibility challenges occur in rural communities in accessing Islamic banking services in rural areas.  This researcher uses a qualitative approach through interviews, as well as literacy studies which are then carried out in a data redaction process and analyzed descriptively. Primary data was obtained through an interview process with Islamic banking institutions and the community as well as the Suka Damai Timur village government institutions. The results of the study show that the infrastructure of Islamic banking services is still minimal. Where there are only 2 sub-branch offices and 4 ATM units spread across Langkat district, the level of community literacy is minimal and there is also no collaboration between local parties and Islamic banking institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic Social Capital in improving the welfare of members of the MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) financing group under PNM Mekaar in Jaring Halus Village. The background of this research is based on the importance of Islamic values in shaping social solidarity, trust, and collective responsibility within community economic empowerment programs. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, where data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that Islamic values such as honesty (sidq), trustworthiness (amanah), mutual assistance (ta'awun), and moral discipline have become social strengths that drive smooth financing, increased business turnover, and the emergence of collective aspirations towards a blessed and independent business. Furthermore, synergy with religious figures and social institutions strengthens the potential for sustainable business development. This study concludes that Islamic Social Capital serves not only as a moral foundation but also as an effective and applicable strategy for economic empowerment.

Abstract

The research intended to examine the influence of financial literacy, fintech, and religiosity on Islamic financial behavior. The phenomenon underlying this research is the low level of public awareness, particularly among the younger generation, regarding financial management based on Sharia principles, despite the increasing trend in the use of Islamic financial products. A quantitative survey method was applied in this research, where data were obtained through questionnaires distributed to respondents and subsequently analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS support. The results show that financial literacy, religiosity, and financial technology positively and significantly affect Islamic financial behavior. Among these variables, religiosity has the most dominant influence in encouraging Sharia-compliant financial behavior. The finding suggests that an increased degree of religiosity enhances the likelihood of practicing financial activities in accordance with Islamic teachings. These findings imply that enhancing both religiosity and financial literacy can serve as effective strategies for fostering better Islamic financial behavior within society.

Abstract

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires cross-sector collaboration, including in zakat management. BAZNAS North Sumatra Province is strategically positioned to support the achievement of SDGs 1, 4, and 8 through a productive zakat program. However, reporting practices that still emphasize financial output aspects make measuring social impact less than optimal. Examining the role of BAZNAS North Sumatra Province in encouraging the achievement of SDGs through the implementation of social impact-based zakat accounting, with a focus on the effectiveness of business capital assistance programs and assistance in completing student final assignments. This study uses a descriptive-explanatory design with a mixed methods approach. Qualitative data were collected through interviews, observations, and document reviews, while quantitative data were analyzed using the Social Return on Investment (SROI) framework on 54 beneficiary respondents. The business capital assistance program increased the average income of mustahik by 20.58% with an SROI ratio of 1:2.83, and encouraged independence and self-confidence. Meanwhile, the thesis completion assistance program accelerated graduation, enabled 100% of its recipients to obtain employment, and achieved an SROI ratio of 1:7.87. Both programs significantly contribute to the achievement of SDGs 1, 4, and 8. This research combines the application of social impact-based zakat accounting with quantitative SROI measurements at the provincial BAZNAS level. The results provide empirical evidence of zakat's role in supporting the SDGs and offer an outcome-based evaluation model with potential adaptation in other regions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how zakat, infaq, and shadaqah (ZIS), economic growth, and population affect the Human Development Index (HDI) in North Sumatra Province. The background of this research lies in the persistent disparity of human development across regions and the lack of empirical studies that integrate Islamic social finance variables, such as ZIS, into human development analysis. The study employs a quantitative research design with a panel data regression method using the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The sample consists of eight cities in North Sumatra (Medan, Binjai, Pematang Siantar, Tebing Tinggi, Tanjung Balai, Sibolga, Padangsidimpuan, and Gunung Sitoli) covering the 2018–2021 period. Data were obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS). The findings show that ZIS has a positive but insignificant effect on the HDI, suggesting that the distribution of ZIS funds has not yet optimized its impact on human development. Economic growth has a significant negative effect on HDI, indicating that growth in North Sumatra remains non-inclusive and unevenly distributed. Meanwhile, the population variable has a negative but insignificant influence, implying that population growth has not been matched by improvements in quality. Simultaneously, the three variables explain 93.13% of the variation in HDI. Based on these results, the study recommends that policymakers and Islamic financial institutions enhance ZIS management by prioritizing empowerment-based programs rather than consumptive aid. Regional governments should also focus on inclusive economic growth, human resource quality improvement, and equitable access to education and healthcare as part of integrated human development strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of sharia stock investment and public consumption levels on per capita income in Indonesia during the 2021–2024 period. The analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression methods using secondary time series data sourced from BPS, OJK, and ISSI. The results of the analysis indicate that sharia stock investment has a positive and significant effect on per capita income with a coefficient of 3.391448 (p<0.05). Conversely, the level of public consumption has a negative and significant effect on per capita income with a coefficient of –9.381819 (p<0.05). Simultaneously, both independent variables were shown to have a significant effect on per capita income (F test, p<0.05). However, the coefficient of determination (R²) was only 12.88%, indicating that most of the variation in per capita income is influenced by factors other than the model. These findings emphasize the importance of optimizing productive investments and improving the quality of consumption patterns in efforts to improve the welfare of the Indonesian people. The population in this study consists of all economic data series related to sharia stock investment, public consumption, and per capita income in Indonesia from 2021 to 2024, with a total of 48 data observations. The sample used in this study was 48 observations selected based on completeness and consistency during the research period.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the contribution of leisure time and job satisfaction to the performance of casual workers. The analysis technique used was multiple linear regression. Data were obtained from several casual employees at JW Marriott Hotel Medan using a questionnaire. The analysis in this study showed conflicting findings. Individual analyses yielded conflicting results: leisure time was found to have a significant positive impact on performance, while job satisfaction had no statistically significant effect. Consequently, when tested together (F-test), the combined effect of both variables was insignificant. This is consistent with the relatively low coefficient of determination (R²) of 18.7%, indicating that the contribution of both variables in explaining employee performance is quite limited, with the remaining 81.3% of the variance explained by factors outside the research model. This study focused on casual employees in the hospitality sector, specifically at JW Marriott Hotel Medan, who enjoy high flexibility but face uncertainty regarding hours and workload. This study found that good work, leisure, and management policies can reduce stress and fatigue levels and increase motivation. This impacts customer satisfaction, strengthens the hotel's reputation, and encourages economic growth by increasing revenue and tourist attraction.
