Abstract

This research is based on the importance of logical-mathematical thinking skills in solving logical-mathematical problems. The research purpose is to describe high school students' logical thinking abilities on geometric transformation material in terms of mathematical self-concepts. The research used a qualitative approach, with the research subject as many as six students of 12th grades science class from one of Bandung Regency high schools selected by sampling technique. Students' logical thinking ability is known from the test scores in solving compiled problems. The score refers to logical-mathematical thinking ability indicators, and the problem-solving technique refers to the Polya stages. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, descriptive statistical calculations, and conclusions/verification. The results showed that the overall students’ logical-mathematical thinking ability in the geometry transformation material is in the medium category. In the self-concept category, subjects with high self-concept can fulfil logical thinking questions based on Polya stages. As for subjects with moderate self-concept, the students can only fulfil several indicators of logical-mathematical thinking skills with problem-solving techniques. The result is still not perfect refer to the Polya stage. As for the subject with low self-concept, almost all Polya stages are not fulfiled. The students in the low self-concept category answered the questions incompletely. They had difficulty understanding the problem and planning a solution so that their answers did not match the questions.

Abstract

This study aims to map the results of the mathematics national examination. The research was conducted from October to November 2018. Data collection technique applied in this research was documentation technique. The data of this study were taken from PAMER released by Puspendik in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Data analysis was carried out in a quantitative descriptive model, and then the results were presented in the form of graphs and tables. The results of this study indicates that: 1) the scores of mathematics national examination of students in the last three years (2015/2016, 2016/2017, and 2017/2018) are considered low on all materials tested, and 2) nationally, the average scores of mathematics national examination almost in all provinces are condidered low at all levels of education.

Abstract

The integration of art into mathematics is currently still carried out by paying attention to the aesthetic value of student projects. However, its use has not been found to expand artistic or cultural values knowledge. This study aims to conduct a study related to the integration of batik art in mathematics learning on the topic of circles in elementary schools, where batik art contains not only aesthetic meaning but also cultural values and is the identity of the Indonesian nation. This research is focused on content design, the use of methods, and their effect on learning outcomes. The integration of batik art in learning is carried out to support the development of STEAM-based learning. This study used a quasi-experimental method using the design of One group posttest only with multiple substantive posttests, which was carried out in 2 different elementary schools in grade 6 with a sample of 41 students consisting of 28 female students and 13 male students. Experimental learning uses circular batik motifs as an art aspect and project-based learning (PjBL) as a learning method. Data collection was carried out using three instruments: a final student ability test, interviews, and questionnaires. The results show an increase in student learning outcomes, reducing students' anxiety levels in learning, increasing student activity, and providing alternative solutions for implementing fine arts in learning, especially mathematics, on the topic of circles at elementary school. This research is expected to provide benefits of knowledge related to how art or culture can be instilled simultaneously with lessons, especially mathematics learning for educators.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe students’ problem solving ability through mathematics subject. The focus is especially at narrative questions in social arithmetic material on VII grade students. Seeing as the problem solving ability has four indicators such as: 1) the identification of problem, 2) formulating strategy, 3) conducting strategy, and 4) evaluating solution, this description is also considering the type of adiversity quotient (AQ). The research subject involved 28 students on VII grade level of Mts Negeri 8 Majalengka who have studied social arithmetic material. Then, the subjects are classified according to the type of AQ which are Climber, Camper, and Quitter. The data collection technique used is questionnaire, problem solving test, and interview. In analysing the data, the researchers used data reduction, data serving, and drawing conclusion or verification. This research focused on problem solving ability through social arithmetic material that wrapped into narrative questions which closely related to students’ daily activities. The result shows that students with Climber type accomplish all indicators of problem solving ability. However, the Camper type of students reached only three indicators, and students with Quitter type showed only get as far as one indicator draw up.

Abstract

[English]: This phenomenological study aims to thoroughly investigate the meaning of concepts in algebraic forms developed by students, both in the past learning process and in the didactical design implementation, as well as a teacher's instructional experiences as the basis for preparing a didactical design. Six seventh-grade students and a mathematics teacher participated in the study, comprising three phases: (1) analyzing students’ learning obstacles through a test and teacher’s interview, (2) preparing hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) and didactical design based on the identification of the obstacles and in-depth interviews with the teacher, and (3) implementing the didactical design. This study revealed that students have a didactical obstacle because the teacher delivers formal definitions of algebraic form concepts followed by examples of problems. It results in epistemological obstacles, as students' understanding of the concepts is limited according to what the teacher explains. Furthermore, an HLT was developed that bridges students' arithmetic knowledge with algebra. The series of tasks were organized referring to the theory of praxeology by taking the daily-life context Let's Save. During the learning process, students use different representations, such as symbols and letters, to demonstrate the variable, reason for using a particular representation, and state the definition of a variable based on their work. The procedure was also applied to the remaining four concepts. Through the tasks, students can actively construct their conceptual understanding of the concepts in the algebraic forms. [Bahasa]: Penelitian fenomenologi ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji secara mendalam pemaknaan siswa terhadap konsep-konsep dalam bentuk aljabar, baik pada proses belajar sebelumnya maupun pada implementasi desain didaktis, serta pengalaman mengajar guru sebagai landasan dalam membuat desain didaktis. Enam siswa kelas 7 dan seorang guru matematika menjadi partisipan pada penelitian ini, yang terdiri dari tiga tahap, yaitu: (1) analisis hambatan belajar siswa melalui uji tes dan wawancara guru, (2) menyiapkan lintasan belajar hipotetik (HLT) siswa dan desain didaktis berdasarkan identifikasi hambatan belajar siswa dan wawancara mendalam dengan guru, dan (3) mengimplementasikan desain didaktis kepada siswa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa mengalami hambatan didaktis yang disebabkan oleh cara guru mengajar. Guru cenderung memberikan definisi formal pada konsep-konsep bentuk aljabar dilanjutkan dengan contoh-contoh soal. Hal ini mengakibatkan siswa mengalami hambatan yang bersifat epistemologis, dimana pengetahuan siswa terhadap konsep-konsep bentuk aljabar terbatas berdasarkan apa yang dijelaskan oleh guru. Kemudian, dirancang HLT yang menjembatani pengetahuan aritmatika siswa dengan aljabar. Rangkaian tugas disusun berdasarkan teori praxeology dengan mengambil konteks kehidupan sehari-hari bertema Ayo Menabung. Selama proses pembelajaran, siswa menggunakan berbagai macam representasi seperti simbol dan huruf, untuk menunjukkan variabel, mengemukakan alasan dari penggunaan representasi tertentu, dan mengungkapkan definisi variabel sesuai dengan hasil pekerjaannya. Hal ini juga berlaku pada keempat konsep lainnya. Melalui tugas yang diberikan, siswa dapat berpartisipasi aktif dalam membangun pengetahuan tentang konsep-konsep dalam bentuk aljabar.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of Project Based Learning-STEM (PjBL-STEM) associated with the variable Mathematical Problem Solving Ability (KPM) on trigonometric material. The research method uses a quasi-experimental design with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The problem-solving abilities studied include: understanding the problem, planning for completion, completing according to plan, re-examining the calculation results. The results and conclusions of this study are (a) the effectiveness of the learning process of teachers and students can be categorized as good based on the average results on the observation sheet that has been assessed by the observer; (b) based on independent t-test there are differences in the improvement of students' mathematical problem solving abilities who receive STEM-based Project Based Learning (PjBL-STEM) learning with conventional learning, where STEM-based Project Based Learning (PjBL-STEM) learning has an average score N-gain 0.53 higher than conventional learning with an average N-Gain 0.31. Abstract

Trigonometry is an essential topic in learning mathematics, but in fact there are still identified student errors in solving trigonometry problems. Based on these problems, this study aims to describe students' errors in solving trigonometric problems, especially on the topic of trigonometric ratios and its scaffolding. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Collecting data through observation, tests and interviews. The subjects of this study were 35 students of class X in one of the senior high schools in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan. The results of this study are that there are seven types of errors made by students in solving trigonometric ratio problems, namely: (1) error in understanding the concepts; (2) error in setting operation; (3) error in performing calculation; (4) error in applying the principle; (5) error in writing algorithm; (6) random response; and (7) error in drawing. Based on the results of these studies, it can be concluded that the forms of scaffolding that can be given are:explaining, reviewing, restructuring,and developing conceptual thinking. Trigonometri merupakan materi yang esensial dalam pembelajaran matematika, namun pada faktanya masih terdapat kesalahan-kesalahan siswa yang teridentifikasi dalam menyelesaikan masalah trigonometri. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan-kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah trigonometri khususnya pada topik rasio trigonometri beserta scaffoldingnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Pengumpulan data melalui observasi, tes dan wawancara. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 35 siswa kelas X di salah satu SMAN di Kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara, Kalimantan Timur. Hasil penelitian ini yakni terdapat tujuh jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah rasio trigonometri, yaitu: (1) kesalahan dalam memahami konsep; (2) kesalahan dalam menetapkan operasi; (3) kesalahan dalam melakukan perhitungan; (4) kesalahan dalam menerapkan prinsip; (5) kesalahan dalam menuliskan algoritma; (6) jawaban sembarang; dan (7) kesalahan dalam menggambar. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa bentuk scaffolding yang dapat diberikan yaitu explaining, reviewing, restructuring, dan developing conceptual thinking.

Abstract

Salah satu contoh kebudayaan masyarakat yang mengimplementasikan etnomatematika yakni Keraton Cirebon. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi, berlokasi di daerah Keraton Kasepuhan Cirebon, Kecamatan Lemahwungkuk, Kelurahan Kesepuhan. Peneliti mengambil kriteria sampel sumber data dari Abdi Dalem Keraton Kasepuhan, Sultan Keraton Kasepuhan, dan penulis sendiri. Fokus aktivitas pada penelitian ini yakni proses mencari data dengan mengamati konseptual matematis dan menganalisis kaitannya dengan makna dan nilai filosofis kebudayaan pada bangunan Keraton Kasepuhan Cirebon. Pengumpulan data dilakukan pada natural setting, sumber data primer, observasi (pengamatan), wawancara tak berstruktur, triangulasi, catatan lapang, dan dokumentasi (rekaman suara dan foto). Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwasannya nilai filosofis yang tertuang pada atap pintu masuk Keraton Kasepuhan Cirebon, di mana berbentuk Ikon Cirebon yaitu Mega Mendung. Pada Motif Mega Mendung meliputi gradasi warna pada lapisan awan dan mempunyai lapisan awan ganjil 5, 7, dan 9 yang diartikan 5 melambangkan rukun Islam, 7 melambangkan 7 lapisan langit, serta 9 lapisan melambangkan jumlah Sunan Wali Songo. Sedangkan konsep matematisnya yakni konsep geometris pencerminan pada lengkungan pintu masuk Keraton Kasepuhan Cirebon. Penulis dengan penelitian ini memberikan saran bahwasannya kebudayaan yang terdapat di sekitar kita dapat dimasukkan ke dalam proses pembelajaran di sekolah dengan pembelajaran berbasis etnomatematika guna mempermudah siswa dalam mengimplementasikan materi ke dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dan lingkungan setempat.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of Graspable Math learning media in the material of the Two-Variable Linear Equation System (SPLDV) to train mathematical understanding skills. This study was conducted on 8th-grade students with as many as six people as subjects using a qualitative methodology. The instruments used were math comprehension test sheets and interview guidelines. The results of this study show that the Graspable Math application can be used as a practical medium for students' mathematics learning. This implies that the use of the Graspable Math application on SPLDV material at the junior high school level can help students' understanding of mathematics, especially in algebraic material which includes operations and substitution between tribes

Abstract

Kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan salah satu kemampuan matematis yang perlu dikembangkan karena dapat menentukan hasil belajar matematika yang diraih oleh siswa. Untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kritis, siswa harus memiliki sikap yakin dan percaya akan kemampuannya sendiri. Dalam hal ini self-confidence dibutuhkan oleh siswa untuk mengaktualisasikan kemampuan berpikir kritis yang dimilikinya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa pada masing-masing kategori self-confidence. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 21 siswa kelas XI di salah satu SMK di Kabupaten Sukabumi, Jawa Barat yang sudah mempelajari materi logika matematika. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang memiliki self-confidence tinggi mampu memenuhi tiga indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan selalu merasa percaya diri dengan kemampuan matematis yang dimiliki. Siswa yang memiliki self-confidence sedang mampu memenuhi dua indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan cenderung ragu serta takut melakukan kesalahan ketika menyelesaikan soal matematika. Siswa yang memiliki self-confidence rendah hanya mampu memenuhi satu indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan cenderung tidak merasa yakin ketika menyelesaikan soal matematika dan tidak memahami materi secara utuh.
