Abstract

This study examines the level of speaking anxiety, identifies contributing factors, and explores strategies to address speaking anxiety during oral presentations in speaking classes among fourth-semester students at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, involving 55 English Department students. Data were collected using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS), developed by Horwitz et al. (1986), was modified and used to assess Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA). This 33-item, 5-point Likert scale measures students' language anxiety. Results indicate that speaking anxiety is prevalent among the students, particularly during oral presentations, with an average FLCAS score of 36.218. Interviews with six students, representing both low and high anxiety levels, revealed several factors contributing to speaking anxiety. These include negative thinking, lack of preparation, bad experiences, low ability, low confidence, fear of making mistakes, and physical conditions. To mitigate anxiety, students suggested strategies such as thorough preparation, managing negative thoughts, increasing self-confidence, using relaxation techniques, and improving language skills. The findings emphasize the importance of addressing speaking anxiety in EFL classrooms. Educators can create a supportive environment, incorporate activities to build confidence, and teach anxiety management strategies. Institutions should consider workshops on public speaking and anxiety reduction. Additionally, integrating frequent oral practice and personalized feedback into teaching methods can enhance students' speaking performance and reduce anxiety effectively.

Abstract

Machine learning plays a crucial role in identifying patterns within data, with classification being a prominent application. This study investigates the use of Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) classification models and explores preprocessing techniques, particularly K-Means clustering, to enhance model performance. Overfitting, a common challenge in MLP models, is addressed through the application of K-Means clustering to streamline data preparation and improve classification accuracy. The study begins with an overview of overfitting in MLP models, highlighting the significance of mitigating this issue. Various techniques for addressing overfitting are reviewed, including regularization, dropout, early stopping, data augmentation, and ensemble methods. Additionally, the complementary role of K-Means clustering in enhancing model performance is emphasized. Preprocessing using K-Means clustering aims to reduce data complexity and prevent overfitting in MLP models. Three datasets - Iris, Wine, and Breast Cancer Wisconsin - are employed to evaluate the performance of K-Means as a preprocessing technique. Results from cross-validation demonstrate significant improvements in accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores when employing K-Means clustering compared to models without preprocessing. The findings highlight the efficacy of K-Means clustering in enhancing the discriminative power of MLP classification models by organizing data into clusters based on similarity. These results have practical implications, underlining the importance of appropriate preprocessing techniques in improving classification performance. Future research could explore additional preprocessing methods and their impact on classification accuracy across diverse datasets, advancing the field of machine learning and its applications

Abstract

This research examines the value relevance of the concept of environmental efficiency which refers to the process of maximizing the effectiveness of business processes in order to minimize a company's environmental impact. This research aims to determine how the contribution of good corporate governance (GCG) and environmental efficiency is moderated by financial performance on company value. This research uses secondary data from 2018 to 2022 and was conducted on companies in the non-primary consumer goods industry sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Information obtained from annual reports and sustainability reports. The sampling method used was the purposive sampling method, obtaining a sample of 56 companies with 280 observed data. This data analysis method uses Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The research results show that companies that implement eco-efficiency strategies can increase their company value. Eco-efficiency strategies are able to produce greater cost efficiency and profits, so they are carried out by companies to improve their financial performance. This research also found that financial performance was able to mediate the relationship between eco-efficiency and company value. However, this does not affect the ability to implement GCG to increase the company's performance value. The contribution of this research lies in analyzing the influence of eco-efficiency, GCG, on company value in customer goods companies with ISO 14001 Certificate.
