Abstract

One of the nutritional problems experienced by children in Indonesia is stunting. Stunting itself is a condition of poor child growth and development. The researcher aims to explore the driving factors and inhibitors of stunting parenting behavior in Padang Lawas Regency. The type of research used in the study was qualitative research with a descriptive phenomenological approach. This research was conducted at three health centers: Sibuhuan Health Center, Tanjung Botung Health Center, and Ujung Batu Health Center in July 2022-January 2023. In this study, the number of participants was ten people consisting of mothers, community leaders, and regional heads. The data analysis in this study was carried out by content analysis immediately after each interview process, namely at the same time as the data transcript was made. The results of interviews about mothers' knowledge in fulfilling children's nutrition found that the majority of mothers have good knowledge in fulfilling nutrition in general, where mothers know about the definition of exclusive breast milk and its benefits, know the right time to give complementary foods for breast milk and the types of foods that must be present in the child's plate in fulfilling their nutrition. This study concludes that positive parenting behavior occurs when there is a driving force for positive behavior; the driving factors found in this study are knowledge, access to information, and support from health workers. At the same time, the mother's parenting behavior is negative if there are restraining forces that prevent her from positive behavior.  It is recommended to the Ujung Batu, Tanjung Botung and Sibuhuan Community Health Centers to provide health education on exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary foods for toddlers and to collaborate with cross-sectors in preventing stunting through changing behavior in fulfilling child nutrition.  Keyword:  Breast Milk, Behavior, Complementary Foods,  Parenting, Stunting

Abstract

Indonesia is currently facing a double burden of disease, namely communicable diseases and non-communicable diseases, where behavior is one of the causes of changes in the pattern of these diseases. One of the non-communicable diseases which is the main cause of premature death in the world, namely hypertension is a silent killer with the highest prevalence rate in Indonesia. Untreated hypertension can cause complications. The elderly population is the most vulnerable population suffering from hypertension. One of the areas in North Sumatra with an ever-increasing number of cases of hypertension is Padangsidimpuan City. This study aims to analyze factors related to hypertension control behavior in the pre-elderly group in Padangsidimpuan City. This type of research is quantitative analytic with cross sectional design. The total population in this study was 3104 with a total sample of 237 obtained using cluster sampling and proportional random sampling. The instrument in this study used a questionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed by univariate, bivariate, and multivariate using multiple logistic regression tests. The results showed that there was a relationship between intention (p=0.002), knowledge (p=<0.001), attitude (p=<0.001), affordability of information (p=<0.001), availability of facilities and infrastructure (p=0.020), and support social status (p=0.002) with hypertension control behavior. Multivariate analysis shows that the attitude variable is the variable most related to the behavior of the elderly in controlling hypertension with a Prevalence Ratio (RP) value of 4.869. The pre-elderly group is expected to be more active in adopting a healthy lifestyle, and an active role from the family and health workers is needed in providing support to hypertension sufferers to implement hypertension control behavior and avoid complications. Keywords:  Behavior, Hypertension Control, Pre-Elderly

Abstract

Vocational High School (VHS) is an educational institution with various practical activities to equip students to master the competencies needed when working in the industrial world. Working in a practical workshop has various potential hazards, including the risk of experiencing work accidents, one of which is due to unsafe action. A preliminary survey based on the results of observations showed that out of 30 VHS students working in the practical workshop, 83.3% of them had unsafe actions such as not using personal protective equipment, as well as chatting and joking during the practical process. This study aims to determine the factors that influence unsafe action in the practical workshop of students of public vocational schools in Medan City. The study population was class XI students, totalling 164 students, with a sample size of 113 students selected by simple random sampling. This type of research is quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted in three Vocational Schools with mechanical engineering majors in Medan City: State Vocational School 2, State Vocational School 5, and State Vocational School 14. Data analysis was conducted univariately and bivariately, with simple and multivariate data, and with multiple logistic regression. The results showed that the majority of students had unsafe action (84.1%), as well as knowledge (60.2%) and supervision (61.1%). Supervision (p=0.012) had a relationship with unsafe action, while knowledge (p=0.143) and tools and equipment (p=0.121) did not show significant relationship. Students with poor supervision had 3.937 times (95% CI: 1.353-11.640) risk of unsafe action compared to those with good supervision. Schools are expected to increase supervision or responsibility as well as implement a reward and punishment system for students to reduce the occurrence of unsafe actions that can increase the risk of work accidents. Keyword: Knowledge, Supervision, Unsafe action, Vocational high school

Abstract

Early Warning Score System plays an important role in monitoring and tracking patient deterioration through vital signs and physical condition. Nursing decision making is a complex process that has the potential to influence the quality of care provided. Clinical decision making requires critical thinking skills for nurses. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the accuracy of filling out the Early Warning Score System form and nurses' decision making. The type of research used is quantitative research using a retrospective descriptive research design with a cross sectional descriptive research design. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. The respondents of this study were nurses in integrated inpatient rooms A and B at the Haji Adam Malik Central General Hospital, Medan. This research was carried out in the integrated inpatient ward at the Haji Adam Malik Central General Hospital, Medan. The sample consisted of 148 respondents in the inpatient ward. The instruments used were the standardized Early Warning Score System monitoring form at Haji Adam Malik Hospital and nurse decision making adopted from the Ekwantoro questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the Spearman rank test to obtain a correlation coefficient of +0.470 with a significant p-value = 0.000. The conclusion is that there is a relationship between the accuracy of filling in the Early Warning Score System formula and nurse decision making which is quite strong and in the same direction. It is recommended that nurses increase their in-depth understanding of filling out the Early Warning Score System form in order to make appropriate decisions in providing nursing care. Keywords: Accuracy of filling, Decision making, ERWSS
