Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the economic contribution of oil palm and cattle farming and to evaluate the potential benefits of integrating these two systems for smallholder farmers in Labuhan Batu Regency. This research employs a field observation method using questionnaires and interviews, involving 34 respondents who are both oil palm farmers and cattle breeders. The study applies descriptive quantitative analysis to assess farmers’ production costs, revenues, and incomes. The results show that oil palm farming serves as the primary source of income, generating an annual net income of Rp 1,227,107,960, while cattle farming provides Rp 460,843,461. Integration of cattle and oil palm farming reduces production costs through the use of oil palm by-products as cattle feed and organic fertilizer, and improves land-use efficiency. The integrated system also adds value by producing biogas and reducing weeding costs. This study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical data on the economic performance of integrated oil palm-cattle farming at the smallholder level in Labuhan Batu Regency, a topic that has been scarcely explored. The findings highlight that integrated farming can significantly enhance farmer income and support sustainable agricultural practices. It is recommended that smallholders adopt integrated systems more widely to realize these benefits, and that agricultural policies and extension services provide training and develop scalable models to support implementation.

Abstract

Kata Kunci : Intensitas Medis Sosial, Interaksi Sosial, Siswa SMP AbstractThis study aims to determine the relationship between the intensity of social media use and the social interaction of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 17 Semarang. The background of this study stems from the growing phenomenon of social media use among adolescents, which is suspected to influence how they interact directly within their social environments. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of two variables: the intensity of social media use as the independent variable (X) and social interaction as the dependent variable (Y). The population in this study includes all eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 17 Semarang, and a total of 60 students were selected as the sample using simple random sampling. The instruments were tested for validity and reliability, and all items were declared valid and reliable. Data analysis was conducted using the Pearson Product Moment correlation test with the assistance of SPSS version 16. The results of the analysis showed a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.147 with a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.261. Since the significance value is greater than the alpha level of 0.05 and the calculated r value is less than the r table (0.254), it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between the intensity of social media use and students' social interaction. These findings indicate that the frequency of social media usage does not necessarily impact students' ability to engage in social interactions. Keywords: Social Media Intensity, Social Interaction, Junior High School Students

Abstract

A modern agricultural and aquaculture technique today heavily relies on computer assistance. Computers aid in the analysis, identification, and regulation of feeding patterns, making the process more effective. For example, lobster farming is now predominantly conducted using pond-based methods, known as aquaculture, rather than sourcing lobsters from the wild. This is because lobsters are highly sensitive creatures, and failing to replicate their natural habitat can lead to crop failure. Several factors influence lobster farming conditions, including water quality, feed quantity, and lobster species. Another critical factor is disease outbreaks, which can spread rapidly due to the high lobster density in a single pond. Managing these conditions manually is impractical due to the large number of ponds and the need to replicate natural habitat conditions accurately. To address these challenges, a monitoring mechanism utilizing artificial intelligence (AI)-based image processing is implemented. AI methods can manipulate environmental conditions to closely resemble a lobster’s natural habitat by monitoring pH levels, determining gender, and assessing health status. Data accuracy is ensured using two algorithmic approaches. Experimental results show that the application is designed as a GUI with simple features, making it user-friendly for farmers and the general public. This application was tested using a sample of 200 lobsters, achieving a data accuracy rate of 95% with the SVM algorithm and 85% with the Neural Network algorithm. The application can identify lobster species, size, and potential diseases affecting them.

Abstract

Oil palm fronds, typically discarded after pruning, have potential as a raw material due to their lignocellulosic content. This study optimizes the soda-anthraquinone pulping process using a circulating digester. It investigates the effects of cooking temperatures (140, 150, and 160°C), cooking times (120, 180, and 240 minutes), and NaOH concentrations (10%, 15%, and 20%) with 0.1% anthraquinone, employing Response Surface Methodology (RSM) based on Central Composite Design (CCD). Analysis with Design Expert 13 software revealed significant impacts on yield (19.01-31.00%), kappa number (9.24-15.69), and viscosity (2.91-34.45 cP). Optimal conditions were 140°C, 120 minutes, and 10% NaOH, yielding 30.57% pulp, kappa number of 13.87, and viscosity of 24.03 cP. This research underscores the environmental benefits of utilizing palm fronds, contributing to waste reduction and circular economy practices, and demonstrates the potential for industrial scalability, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional pulping methods.

Abstract

Abstract

This study is based on cases of violence in schools which include cases of bullying that still often occur. To overcome violence in schools, the government issued Permendikbudristek number 46 of 2023 concerning the handling of acts of violence in schools. In this regulation, the government requires every school to form a Violence Prevention and Handling Team (TPPK) to reduce the increasing cases of violence in schools. The problem is that since this regulation was issued on August 4, 2023 until February 2024, only 79.39% of schools have formed it. On the other hand, cases of violence in schools still often occur today. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between TPPK that has been formed in schools and acts of violence and bullying behavior. The research method used is quantitative correlation to determine the relationship between variables involving three research variables, namely the TPPK variable, the school violence variable and the bullying behavior variable. The population of this study was 1,527 high school students in Semarang who had experienced violence at school or who had been victims of bullying. The sampling technique used was a simple random sampling. The sample of this research was 248 students from 9 public high schools and 10 private high schools in Semarang. Data analysis used the Mann Whitney U Test and simple linear regression supported by IBM SPSS Statistics 25 from Windows software. The results of the study showed that the formation of TPPK was able to minimize acts of violence and bullying behavior in schools. However, the acts of violence and bullying behavior that occurred did not show significant differences in results, both in schools that had formed TPPK and those that had not. These results indicate that the TPPK that has been formed in schools is not fully effective even though it has influenced violent behavior in schools. For this reason, the role of TPPK members still needs to be improved by providing skills training in preventing and handling violence in schools.

Abstract

The water-gas shift (WGS) reaction is a crucial process for increasing hydrogen (H₂) production by minimizing carbon monoxide (CO) content. It is widely applied in the petrochemical industry to reduce CO levels in syngas produced from hydrocarbon reforming. Conventionally, this reaction is conducted in two stages: high-temperature shift (HTS) and low-temperature shift (LTS). However, this approach presents both technical and economic limitations. To address these issues, catalysts capable of operating optimally at intermediate temperatures—referred to as medium-temperature shift (MTS)—have been developed. The scope of discussion in this article consists of catalyst development challenges such as sintering, deactivation, and side reactions. This review is intended to serve as a reference for the development of efficient WGS catalysts under MTS conditions, along with modification strategies aimed at enhancing their performance based on current research findings.

Abstract

Reducing embodied energy (EE) in building materials is a critical aspect of achieving sustainable building construction. Embodied energy refers to the total energy consumed in the extraction, processing, transportation, and manufacturing of building materials before they reach the construction site. In conventional buildings, total energy consumption is predominantly influenced by operational energy (OE), which includes energy used for heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation throughout the building’s lifespan. However, in energy-efficient buildings, the proportion of EE to total energy demand becomes more significant, sometimes equaling or surpassing OE. This shift highlights the growing importance of minimizing EE in sustainable building design. This study conducts a systematic review using the PRISMA framework, extracting relevant data from the Scopus database to categorize methods for reducing EE within cradle-to-gate systems. These methods are classified into three phases: the material phase, the construction method phase, and the design phase. The material phase includes three approaches: mixed material intervention, production process intervention, and material substitution. The construction method phase encompasses two approaches: building component substitution and process or method substitution. Finally, the design phase focuses on interventions at the building design level. Despite these classifications, the findings suggest that no single phase or approach demonstrates a significantly greater impact on EE reduction than the others. Each approach contributes comparably to reducing EE, highlighting that while notable progress has been made, the relative effectiveness of individual methods remains consistent across phases. Integrated approaches combining strategies across multiple phases hold promise for substantial reductions in EE, emphasizing the need for future research to refine and innovate these methodologies.
