Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Patient safety remains a primary concern in healthcare, focusing on the prevention of medical errors and adverse side effects affecting patients. Despite numerous efforts to improve patient safety, incidents continue to occur, resulting in significant harm to patients. One critical factor in addressing this issue is the role of caring behaviors. Nurses' caring behaviors can serve as a strategy to enhance patient safety. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between nurses' caring behaviors and the implementation of patient safety protocols in the Emergency Department (ED) of Dr. Soegiri Lamongan Hospital. Methods: A correlational research design was employed using a cross-sectional approach. The study involved 28 nurses working in the Emergency Room. The instruments used included the CBI-24 (Caring Behavior Inventory) and a patient safety implementation questionnaire based on the International Patient Safety Goals (IPSG). Data were analyzed using univariate analysis (frequency distribution and percentage) and bivariate analysis (Coefficient of Contingency, with a p-value < 0.05). Results: The results showed that most nurses exhibited caring behaviors, with 18 respondents (64.3%) demonstrating these behaviors, and the majority had implemented patient safety protocols, with 21 respondents (75%) adhering to these measures. The coefficient of contingency test yielded a p-value of 0.023. Conclusions: A significant relationship was found between nurses' caring behaviors and the implementation of patient safety in the Emergency Department. This study highlights the critical role that nurses' caring behaviors play in enhancing patient safety. It is recommended that nurses continue to improve their caring behaviors and implement patient safety measures effectively. This approach will contribute to providing professional and cautious services, thereby improving the overall quality and safety of patient care.

Abstract

Introduction: Patients with mental disorders who receive rehabilitation at home or as outpatients require support to comply with their treatment programs. One of the significant barriers to improving the health status of these patients is non-compliance with prescribed medications. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and medication compliance in patients with mental disorders within the working area of the Turi Lamongan Health Center. Methods: This is an analytical study with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of 90 families of patients with mental disorders, with a sample size of 73 respondents. Simple Random Sampling was used as the sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The statistical test applied was Spearman's Rank correlation, with α = 0.05. Results: Among the 73 respondents, most reported moderate family support, with 38 respondents (52.1%), while a smaller proportion reported poor support, with 12 respondents (16.4%). Regarding medication compliance, most respondents showed moderate compliance, with 36 respondents (49.3%), and a smaller proportion exhibited good compliance, with 10 respondents (13.7%). The results of the Spearman Rank test revealed a ρ-value of 0.000 < α = 0.05, and the calculated r-value was 0.671. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between family support and medication compliance in patients with mental disorders in the Turi Lamongan Health Center work area, with a strong degree of association.

Abstract

Introduction: Adherence to tuberculosis (TB) medication is a critical factor in curing patients. Incomplete or improper treatment can lead to drug resistance or the recurrence of infection. Self-care agency plays a vital role in helping individuals remain compliant and consistent with their treatment. High medication adherence can also enhance an individual’s self-care agency. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-care agency and medication adherence in TB patients at Lamongan Health Center. Methods: This study utilized a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted in March 2023. The study population consisted of 65 TB patients, with a sample size of 56 respondents selected through simple random sampling. The independent and dependent variables were self-care agency and medication adherence, respectively. Data on self-care agency were collected using the ASA Scale questionnaire, and medication adherence was assessed using the MMAS-8 questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman rank correlation test. Results: The study found a strong positive relationship between self-care agency and medication adherence in TB patients at Lamongan Health Center, with a significance level of 0.001 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.635. TB patients with high self-care agency were more likely to adhere to their medication regimen compared to those with lower self-care agency. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that improving self-care agency can enhance medication adherence among TB patients. These results can serve as a reference for strategies aimed at increasing medication adherence by strengthening patients' self-care agency.

Abstract

The prevalence of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) continues to increase globally, including in Indonesia, causing a decrease in quality of life and the risk of serious complications. The Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) is designed to improve disease management, but its utilization has not been optimal. Self-efficacy is a key factor in encouraging patient participation in health services. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and the utilization of Prolanis health services in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Specifically, the objectives of this study include identifying the level of self-efficacy of type 2 DM patients who are members of the Prolanis group and assessing the level of utilization of Prolanis health services by type 2 DM patients. Methods: The study was conducted using a cross-sectional approach at the Lamongan Health Center from March to May 2023. The study sample was 125 DM patients in the Prolanis group who were selected by accidental sampling. The research instrument used a general self-efficacy questionnaire and a questionnaire on utilizing the Prolanis health service system compiled by researchers from the results of a literature review and data analysis using the Spearman Rank test. The study results showed that the majority of respondents, 68%, had high self-efficacy, and 51.2% made good use of Prolanis health services. The results of the Spearman Rank test are p = 0.000 and r = 0.763, meaning that there is a relationship between self-efficacy and the utilization of Prolanis health services for type 2 DM patients. The correlation strength is strong and positive. The conclusion shows that high self-efficacy in type 2 DM patients tends to be better at utilizing Prolanis health services than low self-efficacy.
