The explosion of data available on the internet is very increasing in recent years. One of the most challenging issues is how to effectively manage such a large amount of data and identify new ways to analyze large amounts of data and unlock information. Organizations must find a way to manage their data in accordance with all relevant privacy regulations without making the data inaccessible and unusable. Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) has released that the top 10 challenges, which are as follows: 1) secure computations in distributed programming frameworks, 2) security best practices for non-relational data stores, 3) secure data storage and transactions logs, 4) end-point input validation/filtering, 5) real-time security monitoring, 6) scalable and composable privacy-preserving data mining and analytics, 7) cryptographically enforced data centric security, 8) granular access control, 9) granular audits, 10) data Provenance. The challenges themselves can be organized into four distinct aspects of the Big Data ecosystem.

This paper reviews different types of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques for solar photovoltaic (PV) application. Since the PV output power is known affected by sun radiation and temperature, it is necessary to search for an effective method for extracting maximum amount of power from PV cell/modules. In this study, a total of seven control algorithms were selected, comprising the most popular methods among the established techniques. A comparison in terms of convergence speed, complexity, as well as the basic concept of each method had been carried out for future reference. Based on the accessible simulation results, modified Perturb and Observe (P&O) method had shown its effectiveness for obtaining actual maximum power point while solving major drawbacks of the conventional P&O. This paper also discusses typical solar MPPT system, including the pros and cons of each part of the system.

The flavivirus epidemiology has reached an alarming rate which haunts the world population including Malaysia. World Health Organization has proposed and practised various methods of vector control through environmental management, chemical and biological orientations. However, from the listed control vectors, the most crucial part to be heeded are non-accessible places like water storage and artificial container. The objective of the study was to acquire and compare various accuracies and cross-entropy errors of the training sets within different learning rates in water storage tank environment which was essential for detection. This experiment performed transfer learning where Inception-V3 was implemented. About 534 images were trained to classify between Aedes Aegypti larvae and float valve within 3 different learning rates. For training accuracy and validation accuracy, learning rates were 0.1; 99.98%, 99.90% and 0.01; 99.91%, 99.77% and 0.001; 99.10%, 99.93%. Cross-entropy errors for training and validation for 0.1 were 0.0021, 0.0184 whereas for 0.01 were 0.0091, 0.0121 and 0.001; 0.0513, 0.0330. Various accuracies and cross-entropy errors of the training sets within the different learning rates were successfully acquired and compared.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, e.g. expert system (ES), fuzzy logic (FL), artificial neural network (ANN), genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO) and biologically inspired (BI) have recently been applied widely in power electronics and motor drives. Each AI method has its own uniqueness and characteristics. Recently, researchers have developed a computational model of emotional learning in mammalian brain, namely brain emotional learning based intelligent controller (BELBIC). The results indicate the ability of BELBIC to control unknown non-linear dynamic systems. Therefore, the BELBIC can be easily adopted for niche mechatronics and industrial applications.

Lithium-ion battery has become the mainstream energy storage element of the electric vehicle. One of the challenges in electric vehicle development is the state-of-charge estimation of battery. Accurate estimation of state-of-charge is vital to indicate the remaining capacity of the battery and it will eventually maximize the battery performance and ensures the safe operation of the battery. This paper studied on the application of extended Kalman-filter and third order Thevenin equivalent circuit model in state-of-charge estimation of lithium ferro phosphate battery. Random test and pulse discharge test are conducted to obtain the accurate battery model. The simulation and experimental results are compared to validate the proposed state-of-charge estimation method.

The direct torque control-space vector modulation (DTC-SVM) is well-known for achieving excellent dynamic overmodulation. However, the method uses complicated predictive stator flux vector control and requires high precision stator flux vector to define overmodulation mode. This paper proposes a straightforward dynamic overmodulation method and constant switching frequency controller without SVM to obtain a faster dynamic torque response in DTC for induction machines. To perform this method, the flux error status produced from the flux hysteresis comparator during dynamic condition is modified slightly before being fed to the look-up table. The verification of proposed method was performed using MATLAB/Simulink simulation package. The effects of different switching and operating condition on dynamic torque performance are analyzed. The result shows that a faster torque response is achieved in proposed dynamic overmodulation DTC method. The main benefit of the proposed method is its simplicity since only minor modification is made to the basic DTC hysteresis-based structure.

Space vector modulation (SVM) has received wide acceptance due to many benefits over other techniques such as higher output voltages, lower total harmonic distortion (THD), high-efficiency and flexible to be implemented in vector control systems. In digital implementation, the SVM equations can be optimally computed by eliminate the use of complex forms. In this paper, the simple SVM based on two-level inverter is employed for higher levels of inverters. This is to retain the simplicity of SVM computation for three-level and five-level cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (CHMI). Moreover, the proposed method utilizes two controller boards to perform high computational workloads and to eliminate glitch and error problems. Experiment results show that the THD of output voltage in five-level CHMI gives the smallest value among the results obtained from other levels.

Concentrating solar power (CSP) is a solar thermal technology that generates electricity from thermal energy through the sun.The electricitycan be generated with four different types of CSP technologies that include Parabolic Dish (PD) systems. In order to make this technology more practical, the efficiency of the solar technology should be improved.Solar concentration is one of the main aspects that can affect the system’sefficiency. This paper reviewed solar secondary concentrators and discussed their designs and performance. Besides, their strengths and weaknesses were compared. Generally, thesecondary concentrators couldincrease the solar concentration of the solar technologyup to 93 percent.
