Abstract

This study aims to test the compatibility of structural equation (SEM) models to determine the relationship between mathematical reasoning ability and geometry problem solving ability. Using an ex-post facto research design, this study took a random sample of 100 students from a total of 296 mathematics education student population at a university in Lubuklinggau. Data were collected through mathematical reasoning tests and geometry problem-solving tests, then analyzed using the Lisrel 8.8 and SPSS programs. The results of the analysis show a very significant path coefficient, which proves that mathematical reasoning ability has a positive direct relationship with geometry problem-solving ability. This means that an increase in reasoning skills will be followed by an increase in the ability to solve geometry problems. In conclusion, this study confirms the existence of a direct relationship between the two variables, where mathematical reasoning ability contributes 15.13% to the improvement of geometry problem-solving ability. Abstract

Ethnomathematics of Samin Tribe's Culture: An Approach to Instructional Mathematics Learning. Objectives: This study aims to explore the ethno-mathematics of the Samin tribes’ culture that is applied in the form of mathematics instrumental questions on data analysis and probability materials in statistics. Method: This research applied a qualitative research design of an ethnographic approach. Ethnography is an approach that utilizes various data collection techniques, such as observation and interviews, which are complemented by the direct involvement of the researchers to gain a deep understanding of their participants. The data collection techniques used were direct observation and in-depth interviews. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively through three main stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The data presented are the results of observations related to the Samin tribe culture, which are then analyzed for the mathematical elements contained in the culture to be presented in the form of an instrumental question. Findings: The results of the exploration of ethnomathematics in the Samin tribe revealed cultural elements in the form of objects and non-objects. The Object elements are in the form of gamelan, udheng samin, and batik samin. While non-object elements are cultural practices in the form of the tradition of “Petung”. The corresponding forms of mathematical connections are mathematical concepts related to geometry, algebra, statistics, probability, combinations, and permutations. Conclusion: Based on the results of the exploration, a set of questions related to the Samin tribes’ culture was produced on the topic of Data analysis and Probability (statistics) for junior high school students. These questions can be applied or implemented in the mathematics learning process, so that mathematics learning based on this culture adds another value of knowledge for the students, instead of mathematics itself. The results of this research are in the form of question prototypes that potential to be developed and validated further, thus can be applied in the learning process. Keywords: ethnomathematics, samin tribe, question prototypes, mathematics learning.

Abstract

Sendangsari Village, Purworejo Regency, has significant agricultural potential, but its utilization is not optimal due to low digital literacy among farmers and minimal application of modern technology. This condition poses challenges in supporting sustainable agriculture, so technology-based innovation is needed. This study aims to analyze the strengthening of digital literacy in sustainable agriculture through the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) in empowering the Sendangsari Millennial Farmer Community. The method used was a mixed method with a questionnaire instrument, pre-test and post-test, and plant growth measurements in IoT-based and manual fields. The results showed a significant increase in participant understanding, marked by a 17.77% increase in post-test scores from the pre-test score of 70.8. The application of IoT in the experimental field also resulted in more optimal growth of tomato, lettuce, and caisim plants compared to manual methods, and increased the confidence of millennial farmers in adopting technology. This study concluded that agricultural digital literacy can be strengthened through socialization, training, and practice of the application of the Internet of Things (IoT). Village institutional support, expanding internet access, and developing the capacity of young farmers are recommended to accelerate the transformation towards sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

With the rapid changes in the times, the emphasis in education has also shifted, from equipping students with highly codified knowledge to developing routine skills to empower them to face and overcome complex and non-routine cognitive challenges. Students must be able to think flexibly and creatively when asked to solve problems for which they do not yet have strategies. The purpose of this study was to describe the creative mathematical reasoning (CMR) abilities of students in solving multiple solution tasks (MSTs) in analytical geometry problems. The CMR indicators in this study were novelty, plausibility, and mathematical foundation. The research used a qualitative descriptive design, describing how students' CMR abilities and their own abilities in solving MSTs questions. The subjects of this study were second-semester students in the mathematics education program at a university in Subang in the 2024/2025 academic year. The subjects were given MSTs questions, grouped into high, medium, and low groups based on their scores. Then, two participants were selected from each group. The criteria for selecting research subjects were: fulfilling the CMR ability aspect; being able to solve several MSTs questions to assess novelty, plausibility, and mathematical foundation, including the stages of initiating reasoning, developing reasoning (incubation, illumination), verifying reasoning, and justifying reasoning; and being able to communicate well. The research subjects were divided into three groups based on the MSTs' question scores: high, medium, and low.  The results of the study illustrate that students' mathematical creative reasoning abilities in solving MSTs questions are not optimal, as reflected in the solutions they provide. Therefore, to optimize students' CMR abilities, assignments should combine question types and use interactive, practical, relevant, comfortable, and connected learning models. For example, project-based or technology-based learning models. Keywords: analytical geometry, creative reasoning, multiple solution tasks.

Abstract

The axiom of Lobachevsky's parallelism is one of the topics that students often find difficult. The purpose of this research is to design a learning trajectory about the Lobachevsky axiom of parallelism using the context of a valid, practical and effective traditional fishing gear "bubu". This research applies development studies which consist of three main phases: preliminary study: analysis and exploration; prototype development: design and construction; and the last stage of assessment: evaluation and reflection. The results of the study show that the learning trajectory of the Lobachevsky equation axiom using the context of traditional fishing gear "bubu" is valid, practical and effective to improve problem-solving skills for mathematics education students. The conclusion is that there are six steps to the learning trajectory, namely: First, identification of problems with the local cultural context; Second: representation of problems; Third: make a settlement plan; Fourth: implementing the plan; Fifth: evaluate the solution of the problem; and lastly, make a conclusion about the axiom of Lobachevsky's parallelism.
