Abstract

Sustainable organic farming management combines ecological/environmental, economic, and social interests in its implementation. This study aims to determine the sustainability status of organic agriculture in Bogor, West Java Province, on the ecological, economic, and social dimensions. The analytical method used is Multi-Dimensional Scaling (MDS) through the Rap-Organic Farm (Rapid Appraisal for Organic Farm) ordinance technique. The results showed that the sustainability status of organic farming in Bogor was categorized as Fairly Sustainable (58.57) on the ecological dimension. Still, the economic and social dimensions were moderately sustainable (52.09 and 53.70, respectively). Leverage attributes that very sensitive influenced the sustainability of organic agriculture are the availability of fertile land, the presence of organic product seeds, community consumption level for organic products, the market potential for organic products, average additional community income from organic product cultivation, and involvement of community institutions in organic farming development. The six attributes of levers must be prioritized for managers through the preparation and implementation of appropriate policies so that the sustainability of organic farming in Bogor, West Java, can be maintained.

Abstract

The Indonesian government established Social Forestry (SF) Program in 2015 to overcome inequality in land tenure, overcome agrarian conflicts and improve the welfare of communities around the forests. Pesawaran Regency does not yet have SF location guidelines in the Indicative and Social Forestry Areas Map. In fact, Pesawaran Regency has a forest area potential of 28% and has a Human Development Index (HDI) score below the provincial HDI average. This study aims to (1) analyze land use and cover changes in forest areas in 2015 and 2020, and (2) determine land potential for SF. SPOT image is used to analyze land cover with visual interpretation. Land suitability evaluation uses the Multi Criteria Evaluation (MCE) method based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The parameters used in this study were land/use cover, soil type, altitude, slope, rainfall, distance from rivers, distance from settlements, and distance from roads The results show that almost half of the forest area in 2020 is in the form of mixed gardens (49.63%), forests (24%), and coffee/cocoa plantations (22.2%). The potential land use changes are from forests to mixed gardens, coffee/cocoa plantation and mines. The parameters most influencing the land suitability for SF are land cover, slope, and soil type. Based on land suitability and land availability analysis for SF, it was found that 66% of the research area had potential for SF.

Abstract

Abstract. Subak as Bali Civilization Fortress. The degradation of nature has potential to weaken the harmony between humans and their environment in a number of subak. Subak culture is only effective at the level of the superstructure, but the level of implementation is that subak have begun to be degraded due to land conversion, transfer of professions, poor economies, and young people who do not want to continue subak tradition. The purpose of this research is to see the existence of subak civilization then creates the policy strategy to develop Subak’s role as an ecological civilization tourism destination. The effectiveness method was used to see the existence of subak and AWOT Method as subak developing strategy to an ecoculture-tourism. Based on the results of effectiveness analysis and AWOT, it shows that subak culture as Bali civilization at the superstructure level is still exists and strong. However, at implementation level, there had been a weakening especially in urban areas. The implementation and preservation of the Sarbagita community based on the three components study was quite effective even for the superstructure component into a very effective category with an effectiveness value of 83.84%. So the components of the superstructure need to be maintained as a fortress of civilization in Sarbagita. However, the components of the social structure and infrastructure had quite low values, which are 59.55 percent and 50.32 percent respectively, which was included in the effective category but located in critical value. So it needs to improve level of social structure and infrastructure so that the three components of the subak civilization run effectively. Keywords: AWOT, subak civilization, effectiveness Abstrak.

Abstract

One of the agricultural public commodities in Indonesia which still cannot fulfill its domestic consumption needs is soybean. The objectives of the research, which was conducted in Karawang Regency, West Java, Indonesia, were to: (i) identify the suitable area for soybean plantations in paddy fields, (ii)  assess the development of soybeans in land use and socio-economic context, and (iii) plan the spatially soybean plantation. A soil survey and land evaluation for soybean was completed. IKONOS imagery was applied to delineate paddy fields while a dynamic system modelling was developed using Powersim 8.0 software. The results of the research showed that the suitability class for soybean plantation in the paddy fields of Karawang Regency ranges from unsuitable (N) to suitable (S2), with limiting factors being temperature, fertility, nutrients retention, slope, erosion, rooting media and toxicity. Very limited arable land  has been used so far for soybeans plantations due to low economic returns. The model predicts that, should the development of soybean continues in its business as usual path, a deficit of soybean will occur in 2030. The model provides alternative scenarios to reduce the deficit. Prioritization was done spatially using the suitable land gradually, corresponding to the government budget availability.

Abstract

The hinterland of Jakarta has experienced high pressure in its land utilization due to Jakarta’s rapid development. The objective of this research was to analyse the suitable land available for agriculture. The research was conducted in Bogor, a hinterland regency of Jakarta. The methodology used includes two steps of analysis, which are land suitability and land availability analysis. Land suitability for agriculture was analysed using multi-criteria decision making method. Seven (7) criteria were included, which consist of soil class, land capability class, slope, elevation, slope aspect, land use/land cover and distance to roads. The criteria were weighted using the Analytical Hierarchy Process. Combining criteria weights and sub-criteria scores, an overlay model in Geographic Information System was applied. The result from land suitability analysis was used as a feed for determining land availability, considering the forest area status and land allocation in the official spatial land use plan. The results indicate that an area amounting to 87.5% of Bogor Regency is suitable for agriculture. Land which is suitable and available for agriculture is 16.7% of the regency’s area. Considering available land which is currently in use, the area that can be allocated for the expansion of agriculture is 3.3%.

Abstract

Oil palm plantations are a primary sub-sector of Indonesia’s agricultural economy and continue to expand rapidly. Ketapang Regency, which has the largest oil palm plantation area in West Kalimantan, holds significant potential for further development. This study assessed land suitability for oil palm expansion using a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making approach integrated with Geographic Information Systems. The Analytical Hierarchy Process was applied to assign weights to the following criteria: slope, land cover, spatial pattern, soil texture, adequate depth, drainage, temperature, rainfall, and road accessibility. The results show that 79.56% of the total area is classified as suitable (S1 and S2), comprising 3.17% as highly suitable (S1) and 67.11% as suitable (S2). Meanwhile, 7.62% was moderately suitable (S3) and 20.44% was not suitable (N). Overlay analysis revealed that the most suitable lands overlap with Other Use Areas and Conversion Production Forests, while some intersect with existing agricultural and plantation uses. Validation with existing plantation data confirmed that 98.34% of plantations are located in S1 and S2 zones, demonstrating the robustness of the model. Overall, Ketapang Regency has substantial land availability for oil palm expansion. However, the limited extent of highly suitable land (S1) and the predominance of suitable (S2) highlight the need for cautious interpretation of expansion opportunities. Sustainable development must align with spatial regulations, land conversion policies, and environmental safeguards. Future research should integrate socio-economic, ecological, and climate change considerations to support sustainable and resilient oil palm development.

Abstract

The paper describes inherent optical properties (IOP) of the Berau coastal waters derived from in situ measurements and Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) satellite data. Field measurements of optical water, total suspended matter (TSM), and chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentrations were carried out during the dry season of 2007. During this periode, only four MERISdata were coincided with in situ measurements on 31 August 2007. The MERIS top-of-atmosphere radiances were atmospherically corrected using the MODTRAN radiative transfer model. The in situ optical measurement have been processed into apparent optical properties (AOP) and sub surface irradiance. The remote sensing reflectance of in situ measurement as well as MERIS data were inverted into the IOP using quasi-analytical algorithm (QAA). The result indicated that coefficient of determination (R 2) of backscattering coefficients of suspended particles (bbp) increased with increasing wavelength, however the R2 of absorption spectra of phytoplankton (aph) decreased with increasing wavelength.

Abstract

The cultivation of Alabio ducks (Anas Platyrynchos Borneo) so far is still natural and only involves one parameter; furthermore, each location has different characteristics. The hierarchical structure constructed has a ranking of importance as an alternative option for ducks' development in peatland ecosystems. This research aims to formulate a strategy for duck production in the Hulu Sungai Utara Regency. AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method in this study is used to structure the decision-making flow from goals and alternatives and weigh the variables. Data collection was carried out with duck farming experts from academia, farmer groups, and policymakers. This study found that the availability of feed, both sago (0.254) and bran (0.218), is a significant component from an ecological perspective. Distance to market (0.307) and hatchery location (0.287) is an economic variable. The social part consists of distance from the settlement (0.443) and labor availability (0.247). Meanwhile, the availability of feed (0.282), hatchery technology (0.269), and Mina ducks (0.251) are the development strategies for duck cultivation in swamp areas, and economic stimulus (0.93) is the final contributor.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe ecological crises confronting modern spatial governance demand more than technocratic precision, they call for a normative reconfiguration of legal meaning. This article examines the legal foundations and practical implications of integrating environmental carrying capacity, into regional spatial planning in East Java Indonesia. Drawing from a normative-practical legal approach, the study interrogates the disconnect between environmental law as lex lata and its fragmented incorporation into spatial planning instruments such as the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW). Through doctrinal analysis and interpretive scrutiny of key statutes, including Law No. 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management and Law No. 26 of 2007 on Spatial Planning, this article reveals that the principle of environmental carrying capacity is frequently relegated to a technical tool, rather than elevated as a normative imperative. The analysis suggests that to prevent legal trivialization and ecological overshoot, carrying capacity must be situated within a broader framework of ecological justice and intergenerational equity. In doing so, the article proposes a reconstructed understanding of spatial planning law, not merely as an administrative instrument, but as a living legal expression of environmental ethics. Ultimately, the integration of carrying capacity into legal spatial reasoning is not only a procedural necessity, but a constitutional obligation in the Anthropocene era. Keywords: environmental carrying capacity; environmental law; legal philosophy; normative-practical approach; spatial planning.
