Abstract

This study aims to examine whether the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by PhET Simulation has an effect on students’ critical thinking skills. The type of research used was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The population in this study consisted of all grade XI science classes at SMA Negeri 1 Gerung. The sample was selected using saturated sampling, with class XI F (36 students) as the experimental group and class XI G (34 students) as the control group. The experimental group received treatment using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by PhET Simulation, while the control group was taught using conventional learning methods. The test instrument consisted of five essay-type questions. The hypothesis was tested using the Independent Samples t-test at a 5% significance level, which produced a significance value of 0.001 for students’ critical thinking skills. Since this value is smaller than the 5% significance level (0.050), H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. These results indicate that the PBL model assisted by PhET Simulation has a significant effect on students’ physics problem-solving skills, further supported by the higher N-Gain score of the experimental class compared to the control class.

Abstract

Abstract

The understanding of the physics concept of viscosity is often hindered by its abstract nature and the limited availability of experimental tools in schools, leading to theoretical and suboptimal learning. Therefore, an innovative learning package needs to be developed to address these issues. This study aimed to develop this learning package and to test whether the resulting product is valid, practical, and effective for enhancing student's conceptual understanding. This study is a research and development adapting the procedural framework of the ADDIE model. The process involved 11th-grade SAINTEK students at SMAN 11 Mataram as trial subjects, with feasibility data collected through expert validation sheets, response questionnaires, and pretest-posttest questions for quantitative analysis. The data analysis indicated that the developed learning package consisting of an Arduino Nano-based viscometer, a teaching module, a student worksheet, and a test instrument achieved a very valid rating (average >89%), a very practical rating (92.00%), and was sufficiently effective with an average N-Gain score of 0.51 (medium category). Based on these results, it is concluded that the developed learning package is valid, practical, and sufficiently effective to be used for enhancing students' understanding of physics concepts.

Abstract

In the era of technological advancement and modern education, delivering effective and innovative physics instruction is essential. A critical aspect in teaching electricity and magnetism is the provision of learning materials that integrate guided inquiry and blended learning approaches to create more interactive, in-depth, and relevant experiences for learners. This study aimed to develop a three-chapter guided-inquiry and blended learning module on electricity–magnetism to foster pre-service physics teachers’ scientific creativity. Using a 4D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate), the research was conducted over six months. The module was first designed and validated by experts in content, pedagogy, language, and technical aspects, followed by limited-scale trials to refine its quality. Furthermore, a large-scale implementation was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the developed teaching materials on each sub-indicator of scientific creativity. The large-scale implementation employed a quasi-experimental method with third-semester students of the Physics Education Study Program at the University of Mataram as the sample. Using a pre-test–post-test control group design, the data obtained indicated a significant difference between the two groups. In addition, the research findings revealed that the developed teaching materials demonstrated a high level of validity across all assessment aspects. Based on the N-gain analysis in the large-scale testing phase, the results indicated that the teaching materials significantly enhanced the scientific creativity of prospective physics teachers, particularly in the aspect of Scientific Knowledge within the Thinking component, with a score of 65% in the medium category, and in Flexibility with a score of 60%. It is concluded that the guided-inquiry and blended learning electricity–magnetism module is valid and effective in fostering scientific creativity and can serve as a model for innovative physics instruction in teacher education programs.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the effect of Learning Cycle 5E learning model on concept mastery and creative thinking ability of students on renewable energy material at SMAN 1 Gerung. The research method used is a pseudo-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test control group design. The research population used in this study were Phase E students of class X SMAN 1 Gerung. Samples were taken using purposive sampling technique and obtained XH class students as experimental class and XK as control class. The research instrument includes a description test that measures mastery of concepts and creative thinking skills that have been tested for validity, reliability, difficulty level of questions, and differentiation of questions. Data analysis used t-test and MANOVA. The results showed that the Learning Cycle 5E model significantly improved students' concept mastery and creative thinking skills compared to the conventional learning method. The average post-test score in the experimental group was higher than the control group, showing the effect of the Learning Cycle 5E model on students' concept mastery and creative thinking on renewable energy material with a significance showing 0.000. So this model provides opportunities for participants to be more active, critical, and creative in the learning process, and helps students better understand abstract and complex concepts. The implication of this research is the need for the application of innovative learning models such as Learning Cycle 5E to improve the quality of physics learning in schools, so that students can achieve the skills demanded by the curriculum and be able to compete in today's educational challenges.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of a problem-based learning (PBL) model incorporating PhET Interactive Simulations on students' critical thinking skills. A quasi-experimental design, specifically an untreated control group design with pretest and posttest, was employed. The population comprised all eleventh-grade science students at SMAN 3 Mataram. Purposive sampling was used to select two classes: XI MIPA 3 as the experimental group and XI MIPA 6 as the control group. The research instrument consisted of a seven-item essay test designed to measure critical thinking skills. The instrument underwent validity, reliability, discriminating power, and difficulty level testing. Data analysis was performed using an independent samples t-test with a significance level of 5%. The results indicated a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Therefore, it can be concluded that the problem-based learning model with PhET media effectively enhances students' critical thinking skills.
