Abstract

Introduction: This research aims to reveal and map the publication regarding zakat to achieve SDGs. Methods: Based on the Scopus database, this study attempts to present an overview of papers, authors, journals, and countries that are prominent in zakat research using the bibliometric technique. Results: Until November 2022, there were 618 documents published by 1,356 authors. And zakat-related research has increased over the last 14 years, with Malaysia having the most authors publishing articles in the field of zakat. Non-Muslim countries, such as the United States, are also included on the list. The research findings show that there are seven pillars in zakat research: pillar 1 (No Poverty), pillar 2 (Zero Hunger), pillar 3 (Good Health & Well-being), pillar 4 (Quality Education), pillar 8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth), pillar 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and pillar 10 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). These pillars correspond to the goal of zakat, which is to distribute wealth for the benefit of the people. Conclusion and suggestion: The government is expected to implement regulations and use existing models to optimize zakat to improve SDG achievement. This research can also be used as a guideline for future research by academics based on the trend and the gap research found in this study.

Abstract

Objective Since February 2021, the government decided to merge 3 Islamic banks to increase Islamic bank markets. This policy raises pros and cons in society. This research analyses the mediating role of mergers on the switching intention to use Islamic banks.Design/Methodology This research is a quantitative study using the Structural Equation Model Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). A total of 108 respondents' data were analyzed. The data was collected through an online survey utilizing social media which was shared directly with respondents in the city of Surabaya. The respondents' criteria were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Results The moderating effects showed that the merger was a poor moderator of the reality between attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on the switching intention to use Islamic banks. However, the direct effects showed a significant relationship between mergers and switching intention. Besides, this study shows that attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control have a significant influence on switching intention. Subjective norm is the most dominant factor.Research limitation/implication This study uses limited variables and was carried out shortly after the merger of Islamic banks. However, this study provides a comprehensive analysis related to the relationship between mergers and switching intention. The implications of this research urge the government as a policymaker to do its best to increase public awareness of Islamic banks. Islamic bank managers must conduct massive socialization by utilizing various existing technologies and media to reach all levels of society to use Islamic banking services.Contribution This study emphasizes the significance influence of subjective norm and switching intention. Thus, the government and Islamic banks must intensify socialization of Islamic bank to encourage Islamic bank users.Novelty/Originality This study complements the literature by analysing the impact of Islamic bank mergers with switching intention to use Islamic banks as far as the authors' knowledge of merger research is still limited to analysing the performance of Islamic banks after the merger.

Abstract

Zakah is an important instrument in Indonesia's economic growth. This is considered important because it can mobilize owned assets for economic growth by empowering certain groups in society, however the potential of zakah in Indonesia has not been maximized optimally, so that community welfare has not yet been achieved. Empirically, the intention to give zakat is a determining factor in increasing the results of zakat collection. The aim of this research is to explore and examine how big the influence of Humanity and Trust is in increasing the intention to repay zakah. This research analyzes intentions in repay zakah. This research uses a quantitative approach with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) techniques based on Partial Least Square (PLS) with primary muzakki data from 100 respondents. The research results show that humanity is not significant in the intention to repay zakah, but if Trust is an intervening variable, then humanity indirectly influences the intention to repay zakat very strongly. Trust is the main key in increasing zakat payments to zakah institutions.

Abstract

Introduction: : The fundamental theory posits that Islamic values encompass all human activities, including work ethics as an essential component of organizational behavior. However, today’s society is facing a decline in work ethics, necessitating readjustment. This study aims to bridge the gap by examining prior research on Islamic work ethics in Indonesia. Methods: A systematic literature review method was used to delve deeper into the development of research topics over the past decade (2014-2023) through a search of Scopus-indexed articles. After a screening process, the final sample, consisting of 38 articles, was processed for further analysis using meta synthesis approach to explore more specific understanding of Islamic work ethics by using Nvivo software. Results: The results showed that Islamic work ethics were affected by three main factors: community patterns, role of Islam, and organizational concept. The relationship between these three factors can encourage positive behavior in the workplace in Indonesia. Conclusion and suggestion: Islamic work ethics in Indonesia are not limited to religious value, but also the culture of the community. Mapping ideas of the three categories of Islamic work ethics in Indonesia can be useful for future empirical research to analyze the relationship among factors in shaping Islamic work ethics in Indonesia. The mapping ideas could also be implemented by organizations in daily business practices.

Abstract

This study examines investor behavior, measured by trading volume activity (TVA) and average abnormal return (AAR), during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the pandemic's impact on four key subsectors: pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, transportation, and food and beverages. Using an event study methodology with daily stock prices and trading volume data, the results reveal varying investor reactions across subsectors. Notably, the pharmaceutical subsector showed significant differences in TVA averages and AAR changes two days before and seven days after the pandemic announcement. In contrast, the food and beverages subsector experienced no significant change in TVA, but notable AAR fluctuations over 11 days. The telecommunications subsector demonstrated significant negative AAR differences post-announcement, despite no TVA changes, while the transportation subsector experienced a negative AAR difference over 11 days with no TVA variations. This detailed sectoral analysis offers valuable insights for stakeholders seeking to understand the differential impact of COVID-19 on various industries.

Abstract

The MSME development program has become a key instrument in increasing consumer purchasing power, ultimately helping to mitigate monetary crises. Bank Indonesia plays a role as the monetary authority, with the Social Program of Bank Indonesia (PSBI) serving as an expression of empathy in addressing socio-economic issues. The KPw Bank Indonesia is also involved in MSME development programs, including the Musae Chips banana chips MSME in Jember. This study aims to: Understand the development process by KPw Bank Indonesia Jember for Musae Chips MSME, and Compare the production scale before and after the development program. The research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, conducted at KPw Bank Indonesia Jember and Musae Chips MSME in Bangsalsari, Jember. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, with descriptive analysis and data validation through source triangulation. The results show that the development process focuses on enhancing MSME skills through training in various areas, including management, production, financing, and marketing, as well as organizing exhibitions to expand market reach. The production scale of Musae Chips MSME increased after the development program, but input costs also rose, affecting the product's pricing. The implications of these results indicate that the training successfully improved the skills and production scale of Musae Chips' MSMEs, which has the potential to expand market reach. However, the increase in input costs after the training may affect product prices, requiring a competitive pricing strategy to remain attractive to consumers.

Abstract

This research aims to describe how Islamic entrepreneurship is implemented in the Hijrah community as a model that represents the identity of each community. The research was conducted using qualitative methods with a case study strategy. Data collection was carried out using observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. The research subjects were the Indonesian Muslim Entrepreneurs Community (KPMI), the Muslim Entrepreneurs Alliance (Assalim), and the Indonesian Business Islamic Boarding School (PBI). Data was collected from field observations and participant observations. There were 22 informants interviewed in-depth, three of whom were experts. Informants came from several regions, including Java, Sumatra, Bali, NTB, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan. The resulting documentation is in the form of brochures, photos of community activities, and digital information on websites, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp groups. Data analysis was carried out by deducing theoretical propositions regarding the implementation of Islamic entrepreneurship in the hijrah community and developing them inductively to describe new findings and propositions. Based on the research results, it was found that the hijrah community implemented Islamic entrepreneurship in various identities, namely salaf-preneurship in the KPMI community, ideo-preneurship in the Assalim community, and spiritual-preneurship in the PBI community. The implication of this research is the development of Islamic entrepreneurship theory, which can be implemented widely by society.

Abstract

Women in Indonesia continue to face challenges in achieving economic and social independence. In fact, in Islamic law's framework, particularly Maqāṣid Syarī’ah's, Islamic Social Finance (ISF) emerges as a pivotal instrument for advancing women's empowerment. This study aims to identify key problems and strategic solutions for women's empowerment through Islamic social finance while predicting the future direction of empowerment itself. Utilizing the Delphi Analytical Network Process, this research conducted literature reviews, focus group discussions, and expert interviews across academia, practice, and regulatory bodies. The findings highlight critical problems from three dimensions for enhancing women's welfare: women's limited time since they have multiple roles (wife and mother) (0.116), capital provision from Islamic social finance institutions without assistance (0.200), and lack of shared information to muzakkī/donors on the importance of empowering women (0.315). Key strategic solutions include addressing essential needs prior to empowerment (0.054), customizing programs to recipients' interests (0.053), and providing financial literacy training (0.052). For Islamic social finance institutions, priorities include creating a comprehensive empowerment framework (0.137), fostering collaborations (0.128), and enhancing institutional capacities (0.115). Improving funding transparency (0.315) and channeling funds through institutions (0.221) are crucial in donor engagement.
