Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of knowledge and skills among early childhood students in earthquake mitigation, partly due to uninteresting learning media and a low level of integration of the latest technology. The aim of this study was to develop augmented reality-based science learning media to improve earthquake mitigation preparedness among early childhood students. The research employs the R&D Gall, Gall, and Ball development model with nine stages, involving validation by three experts (content, media, and instruments) and a pilot test with participants from Group B of Qatrinnada Kindergarten in Padang City. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed using validity, practicality, effectiveness, N-gain, and paired sample t-test analyses. Validation results showed high validity for the material (89.23%) and instruments (86%), and validity for the media (76%). The media was deemed highly practical (92.30%) and provided knowledge improvement with moderate N-gain values for the small class (0.69) and large class (0.58). The t-test revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (sig. 0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the augmented reality-based science learning media developed is effective in enhancing earthquake mitigation readiness among young children.

Abstract

The New Student Admission policy (Penerimaan Peserta Didik Baru / PPDB) is intended to promote equitable, transparent, and accountable access to basic education in Indonesia. However, its implementation at the elementary level, particularly in rural contexts, remains uneven and underexplored. This study evaluated the implementation of PPDB in three public elementary schools in Sibabangun District, Central Tapanuli Regency, using the Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) evaluation model. A mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design was employed. Quantitative data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to school principals and teachers, while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews and document analysis. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that, in the context dimension, PPDB implementation aligns with policy objectives but requires stronger collaboration with private schools to optimize zoning-based admissions. In the input dimension, human resources, facilities, and implementation mechanisms are generally adequate. The process dimension reveals partial compliance with established procedures, with challenges related to schedule adherence and unmet enrollment targets. In the product dimension, PPDB implementation reflects the principles of objectivity, transparency, accountability, and fairness, although enrollment outcomes remain suboptimal. These findings highlight the need for continuous evaluation, improved inter-school coordination, and context-sensitive implementation strategies to enhance the effectiveness of PPDB in rural elementary school settings.

Abstract

During a pandemic, the existence of a family is very important because it involves learning patterns that were initially carried out face-to-face, now they are carried out using the home learning method. So, it takes an active role of parents in the learning process carried out at home. The purpose of this study is to describe the optimization of the habit of worship at home in the framework of the concept of learning from home during the pandemic. The type of research used is qualitative with the type of case study. This research tries to describe in depth the optimization of the habituation of worship at home in AUD. The data was collected through three stages, namely in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of habituation activities. The data that has been collected is analyzed using the method proposed by Miles and Huberman which consists of data reduction, data display and conclusion. In the process of ensuring data validity, researchers used triangulation techniques. The results showed that the optimization of the habituation of worship was carried out in three ways, namely controlling the congregational prayer time at home, accompanying the memorization process, and family gathering activities using the cooking method together. So it can be concluded that optimizing the habituation of worship at home essentially utilizes the amount of time spent with children in building closeness, so that the learning process at home in a pandemic period goes well.

Abstract

Background: Assessment of gross motor development in early childhood is a crucial component in monitoring children’s growth and readiness for daily physical activities. Accurate and ethical assessment methods are required to ensure that observations truly reflect children’s natural movements and behavior. Objective: This study aims to develop and implement a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)-based monitoring method as a supporting medium for assessing children’s gross motor development. Method: This research employed a qualitative case study approach. The participants consisted of ten children, including six children aged 6–12 months and four children aged 12–24 months. Data were collected through direct observation, CCTV recordings, and interviews with related stakeholders. The CCTV system was used to continuously record children’s spontaneous movements during daily activities without interrupting their interaction or play. Result: The findings showed that the use of CCTV facilitated educators in conducting more objective, accurate, and repeatable assessments of gross motor development without directly disrupting children’s activities. Based on the assessment results, six children aged 6–12 months were categorized as fairly capable to capable, while four children aged 12–24 months were categorized as capable to very capable. The CCTV-based method produced more stable, objective, and well-documented observation data, thereby simplifying the assessment process. Conclusion: The use of CCTV technology enhances objectivity and ethical awareness in assessing early childhood gross motor development. This method enables assessments to be conducted without intruding on children’s natural activities, while ensuring data accuracy and continuity. The findings provide implications for further research, highlighting the potential of CCTV as an effective medium for evaluating motor development in early childhood settings.
