Abstract

Background: Indonesia’s ageing population demands proactive strategies to preserve older adults’ quality of life, particularly in maintaining occupational independence, which often declines due to physical limitations, social isolation, and inadequate access to community-based rehabilitation. This community service aimed to enhance the understanding and participation of older adults in occupational independence through a culturally grounded, meaningful activity program in Kersan Brintikan Hamlet, Tirtomartani Village, Kalasan Subdistrict, Sleman Regency. Methods: A pre–post-test counselling design was employed with 52 participants (46 older adults and 6 elderly health cadres). The intervention included health screening, morning walking, anti-hypertension exercise, occupational therapy services, and interactive health education using visual media. A structured questionnaire comprising 10 closed-ended items was administered before and after the session to assess changes in knowledge. Results: Most participants were in the pre-elderly age group (64.3%), nearly gender-balanced (48.1% male, 51.9% female), and moderately to highly educated (78.7% senior high school or above). The mean understanding score significantly increased from 4.75 (pre-test) to 9.33 (post-test), while the standard deviation decreased from 1.064 to 0.857, indicating a homogeneous and substantial improvement in comprehension across participants. Conclusion: A participatory, contextually relevant program combining health promotion and meaningful occupational activities effectively enhances awareness of occupational independence among older adults. For sustainability, follow-up sessions, cadre capacity building, and inclusive outreach to older and male elders are recommended to support active ageing in the community.

Abstract

Background: The current study examined the relationship between perceptions of parenting styles and depressive symptoms in college students. Depression is a mood disorder characterized by major symptoms of depressed mood, loss of interest, and loss of energy, characterized by fatigue. Depression can be a serious health condition, as it can lead to suicide. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in 15-29 year olds. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between perceptions of parenting styles and depressive symptoms in Occupational Therapy students. Methods: The research method used was a quantitative research method using a scale of perceptions of parenting styles (Parental Authority Questionnaire Revised-PAQ-R) and a depression scale using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). The sample size was 200 people taken using incidental sampling technique. The data analysis of this study used a product moment correlation analysis technique with the help of Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) 20.0 for Windows. Results: The results of the analysis produced a value of r = 0.247 which means there is a significant positive relationship between the variable of perception of parenting patterns (authoritarian) with symptoms of depression with a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05) with an effective contribution of 6.1%. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the higher the perception of parenting patterns (authoritarian) the higher the symptoms of depression, conversely, if the lower the perception of parenting patterns (authoritarian) the lower the symptoms of depression. From these findings support that the perception of parenting (authoritarian) will be related to anxiety and symptoms of depression. Keywords: Perception of Parenting Patterns, Depressive Symptoms, Students, Adults.

Abstract

Background: Migrant students often experience culture shock when entering a new environment. This occurs because of the reaction in finding cultural differences that have been adhered to. The effect can potentially experience difficulties in adjusting such as lack of interaction, having negative prejudices, and sometimes causing stress. Culture shock can be overcome if a person is able to adapt and adjust to the culture where the individual is. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between culture shock and the adjustment of migrant students in the Occupational Therapy Department of the Ministry of Health Polytechnic of Surakarta Class of 2024. Methods: This type of research is cross-sectional. The sample selection technique used purposive sampling where there are special criteria in selecting the sample, namely Occupational Therapy Department students class of 2024 who come from outside Central Java. Furthermore, students were given a google form link containing a culture shock questionnaire consisting of 54 items and an adjustment questionnaire consisting of 30 items. The total number of respondents obtained was 78 students. Hypothesis testing used product moment correlation. Results: Showed that respondents were predominantly female, namely 66 respondents (84.6%), coming from East Java, namely 32 respondents (41%). Based on the product moment regression analysis, the value of r = -0.643 was obtained, which means there is a significant negative relationship between the culture shock variable and the student's self-adjustment variable with a p value = 0.000 (p <0.05) with an effective contribution of 41.34% and 58.65% from other factors. Conclusion: There is a negative relationship between culture shock and the self-adjustment of migrant students, where the higher the level of culture shock of migrant students, the lower the level of their adjustment and the lower the level of culture shock of migrant students, the higher the level of their adjustment. Abstract

Background: The ageing population in Indonesia necessitates proactive interventions to maintain the quality of life among older adults, particularly in terms of social interaction, which often declines due to isolation, stigma, and mobility limitations. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance the understanding and participation of older adults in social interaction through a community-based educational program entitled “I am an Active and Happy Older Adult”.  Methods: The intervention was conducted in Bolon Village on Saturday, September 13, 2025. The activity was carried out in three stages, namely (1) preparation, which included coordination with village officials, needs analysis, and the preparation of materials and leaflets; (2) implementation in the form of face-to-face health counseling using leaflets and interactive discussions; and (3) evaluation using the pre-post counseling method. The evaluation was conducted by administering a structured questionnaire containing ten closed-ended questions before and after counseling to 41 respondents (35 elderly people, six elderly health cadres, and other participants) to assess changes in their level of knowledge. Results: The majority of participants were aged 60–74 years (73.2%), female (78%), and had low educational backgrounds (71.1% ≤ junior high school). There was a significant increase in the mean understanding score from 4.95 (pre-test) to 9.56 (post-test), accompanied by a decrease in standard deviation from 0.865 to 0.502, indicating a more uniform level of understanding among participants following the intervention. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that culturally responsive and participatory health education is effective in increasing awareness among older adults regarding the importance of social interaction. Follow-up evaluation, capacity strengthening of community health cadres, and expansion of interventions targeting older and male participants are recommended to realize the principles of active ageing inclusively and sustainably.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to formulate and validate an integrated event tourism package planning model for the SAMOTA National Strategic Tourism Area (KSPN) in Sumbawa, Indonesia. It addresses the critical gap in existing destination management, where flagship events and natural attractions are often marketed in silos, limiting their economic impact and sustainability. Design/methodology/approach: The study adopts a Research and Development (R&D) approach utilizing the 4-D Model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). Data were collected through in-depth interviews with penta-helix stakeholders, including government officials, local communities, and cross-regional travel agencies (Lombok, Bali, and Makassar). The resulting model underwent expert validation to ensure feasibility and market relevance. Findings: The research produced a "Collaborative Event Tourism Planning Model" that effectively integrates the SAMOTA International Festival (SIF) with iconic destinations (Moyo Island, Saleh Bay, and Tambora). The findings demonstrate that cross-regional stakeholder collaboration—specifically involving travel agents in the co-creation process—is the primary driver for building market confidence and expanding distribution channels. The model yielded segmented tourism packages (2D1N, 3D2N, and Full Day) that successfully extended tourists' length of stay. Originality/value: This study contributes to the event tourism literature by providing a validated, visual planning framework that links event scheduling with destination product packaging. It offers a practical roadmap for Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) to transform sporadic events into sustainable tourism products through structured multi-stakeholder synergy.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimal concentration of AB Mix nutrients and the best shoot pruning time for the growth and yield of Cucumis melo L. var. reticulatus naudin (Timun Suri) cultivated using the DBS hydroponic method. The research was conducted in the Greenhouse of the Agrotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Islamic University of Jember. The study employed a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a 3 × 4 factorial arrangement and three replications. Observations were carried out at 10-day intervals after planting. The first factor was the concentration of AB Mix nutrients (N), consisting of three levels: N1 = 1800 ppm, N2 = 2000 ppm, and N3 = 2200 ppm. The second factor was the timing of shoot pruning (P), consisting of three levels: P0 = no pruning, P1 = 20 days after planting (DAP), and P2 = 25 DAP. Data were analyzed using ANOVA (F-test) to determine the effect of the treatments. If a significant or highly significant difference was found, Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level was conducted using SPSS Statistics 25 for Windows. Results showed 2000 ppm AB Mix concentration was best for the stem diameter parameter, while 2200 ppm was optimal for plant height, number of leaves, and all fruit-related parameters. No pruning produced the best results for almost all parameters except fruit length, whereas pruning at 25 days after planting (25 DAP) was best for plant height and number of leaves. The interaction between 2200 ppm AB Mix concentration and no pruning gave the best results for fruit weight, volume, diameter, circumference, and thickness.
