Abstract

Teacher’s misunderstanding in carrying out the assessment has the potential to lead to learning failure. Assessment is considered a routine learning activity but is also considered an additional burden. The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of the challenges and opportunities faced by regular teachers regarding the assessment of students with special needs in their classrooms. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, with the research subject being teachers in one of the elementary schools in Sumedang Regency. The results of the study indicate the low ability of regular teachers in the preparation of assessment instruments and their implementation; difficulties in developing learning programs and management; the complexity and high teaching load related to a large number of students with special needs in the class; lack of coordination between regular teachers and special assistant teachers (GPK) as well as special education teachers, and limited competency improvement services that regular teachers can access. The opportunity is that teachers know the importance of assessment, more assessment information can be accessed, frequent training and technical guidance that regular teachers can participate in, open collaboration with special education teachers, and easy school accommodation. The conclusion is still many challenges faced by regular teachers in carrying out assessments so a concrete program is needed that can create opportunities to improve the ability of regular teachers in carrying out assessments.

Abstract

This study aims to help children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with difficulties communicating, especially expressive language. This research develops alternative and augmentative communication media needed in expressing his wishes to the people around him in everyday life. This study uses a research and development (R&D) model with a qualitative descriptive approach to explaining alternative and augmentative communication media use. This research results in an alternative and augmentative communication media called "Famopa". The development of the media has been adapted to the subject's knowledge in shape recognition, symbol systems, and the subject's communication skills and effectively helps the subject express his wishes. From the development of alternative and augmentative communication media, "Famopa", the expected implication is that it can help subjects communicate with their surroundings, especially in expressing their desires.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the existence of speech barriers in deaf children aged 6 years, indicated by the lack of clarity in pronouncing vocal letters. This condition is allegedly the result of inappropriate intervention services from the family. The purpose of this study is to describe a family-sourced early intervention program for deaf children who experience speech delays, especially in the ability to pronounce vowels. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with the research subject is 1 family and their children who experience hearing barriers (deaf). The results of this study are the formulation of a hypothetical program consisting of rationale, objectives, materials, strategies, and evaluations that have been validated so that it is feasible to guide families in intervening language and communication development services for their children appropriately.

Abstract

Assessment is the "spirit" in the world of special education. The results of the assessment are useful as a guide for serving children with special needs. Departing from the results of the assessment, a learning system or program can be designed and developed that suits the needs of the child. This study aims to find out about the results of the assessment of children with complex communication barriers (Complex Communication Needs) as a basis for making program designs in developing their communication. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research method by aligning theory with facts in the field so as to obtain in-depth information. The subjects in this study were children who experienced obstacles in communication and behavior interactions who also experienced complex communication barriers. The subject is currently studying at an SLB in the city of Bandung, precisely in Mekarjaya Kec. Rancasari. The result of this research is the formulation of an alternative and augmentative communication program design called MacDi. MaCDi can be used by other subjects with the same traits and characteristics as the subjects in this study.

This study aims to explore family experiences in dealing with sexuality development in adolescents with autism spectrum disorders. This phenomenological study collected data through in-depth interviews with semi-structured open-ended questions of seven child participants with autism spectrum disorders. Abstract

The problems of children with motor disabilities who experience expressive language difficulties need to get the right solution so that these difficulties can be overcome and get learning services that suit their abilities and needs. Based on these problems the researcher developed Flash Card media which has a very important role to make it easier for children to perceive something. One of the difficulties in learning to read technically is because it is difficult to think abstractly, so the teacher can work around this by using media that is in accordance with the goals and material being taught. The way to overcome these problems is to develop learning media that are suitable for children's abilities. Media is needed to make it easier for children with motor impairments to learn. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach.

Abstract

Play is widely recognized as an effective method for enhancing social skills in autistic children. However, play involves developmental stages that necessitate alignment with the child's specific play abilities. Consequently, there is a need for a play-based intervention model that can be utilized by parents and early childhood education teachers to improve social skills in autistic children within Early Childhood Education (PAUD) settings. This study aimed to develop an effective play-based model for enhancing social skills in autistic children by maximizing the roles of both parents and teachers. This research employed a mixed-methods approach using an Exploratory Sequential Design. Research data were obtained from two playgroup (Kober) teachers, three mothers of autistic children attending these playgroups, and three autistic children who served as the primary intervention subjects. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Meanwhile, quantitative data were analyzed using the Single Subject Research (SSR) method, focusing on within-condition and between-condition analyses, as well as calculating the average skill improvement of the subjects. The research findings indicate that: (1) The social skills of autistic children were notably low, particularly in eye contact ability and imitation behavior, which are fundamental social skills for autistic children. (2) The play patterns implemented by teachers and parents thus far tended not to consider the child's developmental stage and play abilities. (3) The model's development was based on empirical studies (needs analysis) and a comprehensive literature review that informed the concept and implementation process of the foundational play-based intervention model for parent-teacher collaboration. (4) Based on the evaluation, the foundational play-based intervention model involving parent-teacher collaboration was found to be effective in enhancing the social skills of autistic children, specifically in their eye contact ability and imitation behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the effectiveness of the Biological Augmented Reality (BAR) learning media in improving understanding of the "Human Immune System" Material among deaf junior high school students. The Research employed an experimental method with a one-group pre-test-post-test design, involving six deaf students from SLB X. Participant criteria included diagnosed hearing impairments, junior high school age, basic literacy skills, and the absence of severe cognitive impairments. The procedure began with a pre-test consisting of multiple-choice questions to assess prior knowledge. Subsequently, students participated in learning sessions using BAR media, designed to present three-dimensional visualizations and interactive features to facilitate understanding of abstract concepts. A post-test was then administered to evaluate changes in students' comprehension. Data from the pre-test and post-test were analyzed using the nonparametric Wilcoxon test to identify significant differences. The results revealed a significant improvement in students' understanding after using the BAR media. The media's visualization and interactivity not only enhanced learning engagement but also helped students process information more effectively. This study recommends BAR media as an innovative learning alternative, particularly for deaf students, to address verbal communication barriers and support education.
