Abstract

In preparing graduate children with mild intelligence barriers who are ready to work, of course, it requires an initial description of the child's condition in vocational skills in the aspects of soft skills and hard skills according to the demands of the world of work that are targeted, teachers can do this through an assessment process. This research method uses the mixed method method. The purpose of this study was to determine the child's profile, including a description of the child's potential, barriers and needs. The results of this study included child profile data which were processed using quantitative data and qualitative data on 5 aspects of soft skills, 2 basic development and 7 aspects of hard skills. The results of the assessment showed that there were aspects of soft skills that still needed to be optimized in interpersonal behavior with a score of 56%, while in the hard skills aspect there were aspects of milled rice processing with a score of 55% which still needed to be optimized as well as skills, especially skills in weighing rice. The results of this assessment were used as the basis for creating a work readiness vocational program at the Garut 1001 Instant Liwet Rice Company.

Abstract

This research was conducted at SMK Garut Regency on Deaf children who have difficulties in making decisions about careers at school and post-school careers. The decision to choose student majors is currently based on the strong will of parents, besides that teacher are less able to provide alternatives to the choice of majors they are interested in and are not based on the results of the assessment of talents and interests. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to see the obstacles of students in achieving career maturity based on the results of the needs analysis. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The participants of this study were Deaf children that had an impact on language skills and cognitive abilities in interpreting information, other subjects were classroom teachers, subject teachers, and special education teachers closest to the student's environment. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and documentation studies, and data analysis techniques used data triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the obstacles for students in making career decisions are caused by the impact of their deafness so that they are hampered by expressive and receptive communication skills that do not support them to ask questions so that they only get information from outside and find it difficult to interpret the information they get. The encouragement and prestige of parents and friends are other obstacles in determining student decisions that are not following their interests and talents. Another obstacle is that teachers have not specifically assessed the interest in talent for student careers before entering school to date. Based on these findings, a solution to determine the level of career maturity of students at this time requires an assessment of interests and talents which can then be used by teachers or parents in making transition programs in which focus is on developing soft skills for children in terms of making appropriate career decisions.

Abstract

Limited learning programs in developing spoken language, as well as the inconsistency of teachers in implementing oral language communication, are allegedly the main causes of poor communication skills, especially for hearing impaired students. In contrast to this, oral language skills are a prerequisite for having communication with others. The present study draws attention to receive a description of the school (teacher) readiness in developing oral language skills programs for students with hearing impairment. Conducted through descriptive qualitative method, the current project explores data from the chosen teachers of grade 2, 3, and 4, as well as PKPBI teachers through interviews, observation and documentation study. The data analysis technique is performed through data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions and verification. The findings disclosed that the oral language program planning is based on incidental needs analysis. The oral language skills program is still developed separately from the PKPBI program and communication training (either speaking or articulation). Likewise, conversational competence as a basis for developing communication has not become a definite program and is only applied to certain themes. The implementation of the oral language skills program is carried out partially with different learning patterns and methods, namely the global word method and the maternal reflective method (MMR).  The teacher's evaluation was limited to correcting phonemes, repeating simple sentences and once into integrated thematically. The faced constraints are the availability of supporting infrastructure such as PKPBI room and articulation room that have not been optimized and the limited number of speech experts and PKPBI teachers. For such obvious reason, the seriousness and consistency of schools are highly necessary in developing oral language skills programs as the main focus during the learning process at each grade level by providing opportunities for all teachers to possess integration with PKPBI program and thematic articulation training programs using the reflective maternal method (MMR).

Abstract

The inability to achieve complete independence in students with special needs has the potential to make this group vulnerable to problems, including reproductive health and sexuality problems. These problems are suspected to be due to the lack of understanding and perception of teachers in the concept and implementation of reproductive health and sexuality education in Special Schools (SLB). This study was conducted to see teachers' understanding of reproductive health and sexuality education for students with special needs. Using a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design, this study involved 15 teachers from six SLBs in Bandung City who were selected using the purposive sampling method. The data obtained were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the average score, indicating that the efforts made could improve teachers' understanding of reproductive health and sexuality education. Teachers felt more prepared to deal with the problems of students with special needs regarding reproductive health and sexuality after participating in competency refresher courses by participating in training or discussions. Training and discussions that are planned systematically, sustainably, and comprehensively can improve teacher competence and, more broadly, can improve the quality of reproductive health and sexuality education in SLB.
