Abstract

Kata Kunci: Bakteri Termofilik, Inhibitor, Akarbose, Metode Sumur, Persen Inhibisi Diabetes is a multifactorial disease whose incidence is increasing rapidly in developing countries. Diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2 is the most common type of diabetes, where this disease is closely related to industrial and technological advances, thus affecting a person's lifestyle. This disease can be controlled by inhibiting α-glucosidase activity. Several microorganisms, especially from hot springs, can be used to produce α-glucosidase inhibitor compounds. In previous research, the Bacillus megaterium ITU 9 isolate was an isolate isolated from hot springs. In this study, the ability of the Bacillus megaterium ITU 9 isolate to produce α-glucosidase inhibitors was tested using the well method. The percent inhibition power of B. megaterium ITU 9 supernatant on the action of the α-glucosidase enzyme was 46.67%, while the percent inhibition power of acarbose was 70%. In this case, the thermophilic B. megaterium ITU 9 has inhibitory power against the α-glucosidase enzyme.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the formula of anti-aging cream using lemongrass leaf extract. The treatment by giving respondents lemongrass leaf extract and using moisture, evenness, pore, spot, and wrinkle as parameters. Human skin provides protection on the surface of the body against the influence of the surrounding environment. Skin can experience aging, especially in areas that are often exposed to direct sunlight such as the face, neck, upper arms, and hands. Aging is a process experienced by humans in their 30s whose functions in the human body are decreasing, for example, thinning skin, wrinkles, rough skin, and dark spots on the face. Treatment to prevent aging of the skin by using an antioxidant product such as flavonoids because it has the function of preventing or neutralizing free radicals. In Indonesia, several species of plants can be found that function as food and cosmetic ingredients. The lemongrass leaf extract which contains antiaging are Alkaloids, Flavonoids, and Tannins. The data were analysed by using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov method to determine homogeneity and normality. Then, if the data is normal, it is continued to be analysed using the One-Way ANOVA method to determine the average difference between groups. There is a difference between treatments, and it is continued with the Post-hoc Tukey HSD test. The higher the concentration of extract used, the greater the anti-aging productivity formed. It is concluded, the best anti-aging effect is a concentration of 9% with increase in moisture, evenness, pore reduction, reducing spots and wrinkles.

Abstract

This research is an overview of a comparative study on the Interleukin-1β-511 C/T polymorphism in individuals with schizophrenia of Batak and Minangkabau ethnicities in Pematang Siantar, Indonesia. The study aims to investigate genetic differences among these ethnic groups to better understand susceptibility to schizophrenia, which is influenced by multiple factors including genetics. The research uses a comparative categorical analytic approach with a cross-sectional method and involves DNA isolation and polymerase chain reaction - restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) examinations. Based on the results,  significant demographic differences between the Batak and Minangkabau ethnic groups, particularly in gender distribution, age, onset of illness, duration of illness, and PANSS scores. Notably, it finds a significant difference in the occurrence of the C allele and the T allele between the two ethnic groups, with the C allele being more prevalent in the Minangkabau group and the T allele more so in the Batak group. This suggests that the IL-1β -511 C/T polymorphism may play a differential role in the susceptibility to schizophrenia among these ethnicities, indicating a potential for ethnic-specific risk factors or protective elements.

Abstract

Various types of food products have good and bad effects on human health. One type of food that provides positive benefits is functional food. Functional foods are foods or beverages that are not only consumed to fulfill nutritional needs, but also provide good effects on the body's health and help reduce the risk of serious diseases. An example of functional food is probiotic drinks, which are known to support digestive health and strengthen the immune system. The content of probiotic drinks has a good impact on digestion and is able to inhibit α-glucosidase, so it is good to be consumed as a supplement for type 2 diabetes patients. The research focused on testing the potential of probiotics derived from commercial products on α-glucosidase enzyme activity. This type of research is laboratory experimental research with In Vitro method. The samples in this study are beverage samples with various types of brands containing probiotic milk that will be tested. The results showed that of the 8 probiotic isolates isolated from commercial products L-Bio, Yakult, Biokul and Max biotic have tolerance to acid and bile salt. Probiotic isolates in this study did not show antimicrobial activity. Screening of probiotics from commercial products with the most potential as α-glucosidase inhibitors was yakult.

Abstract

The primary function of skin is to protect the inside of the body from physical and mechanical stresses. Skin is perceptive to its surroundings. Thus, a variety of skin issues may develop, including wounds. The standard wound treatment is chemical therapy using antiseptics. Antiseptics contain antimicrobial qualities that can eradicate bacteria. However, antiseptics can also destroy fibroblast tissue, which creates new skin tissue, and leukocytes, which are responsible for eliminating harmful bacteria. Alternative medicines, such as traditional medicine, are thus required to aid in wound healing. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of Allium chinense G. Don extract on the healing of cut wounds in white rats. This research is experimental research using a post-test control group design. Data analysis used One way ANOVA. The research found that Allium chinense G. Don extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and triterpenoids/steroids, but no tannin compounds. The antibacterial properties of Allium chinense G. Don are effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Collagen density and fibroblast count increased in Wistar rat wound tissue after being treated with the extract. Allium chinense G. Don is effective in healing cut wounds in white rats (p <0,001).
