Abstract

Abstract

The rise of cyber fraud targeting Telegram users in Malaysia poses a major threat to the trust and financial security of the digital platform. Therefore, this study will focus on two main objectives, which are to identify the strategies used by scammers to target adult users of Telegram Malaysia and evaluate the effectiveness of public awareness efforts aimed at educating the public about scams among Telegram users. By using Uses and Gratification Theory, which states that individuals engage with media to fulfill social and psychological needs, this research explores why scammers exploit Telegram's large user base and secure messaging for financial gain. To ensure accurate and reliable findings, a quantitative methodology was employed, using a structured questionnaire distributed via Google Forms, gathering responses from 416 participants through the integration of purposive and convenience sampling, chosen for its efficiency in reaching a diverse respondent pool. The results show that users are aware of online scams and can identify their various patterns as well as prevalent tactics. Susceptibility can be caused by a variety of factors, including a lack of awareness, being easily deceived, and financial desperation. Hence, in order to prevent cybercrime and promote digital safety, it is crucial to put pre-emptive measures into place, collaborate with governments, and launch effective awareness programs. In conclusion, social media platforms serve as vital tools for disseminating scam-related information.

Abstract

Technology and innovation are pivotal in advancing the tourism sector and shaping tourist activities in Malaysia. In response to challenges such as social distancing and safety regulations following the COVID-19 pandemic, chain hotels are forced to find new ways to attract customers. Since digital tools greatly impact tourists' accommodation decisions, it's crucial for hotels to be adaptable in their digital marketing efforts. Hotels that do not leverage digital marketing are missing out on significant opportunities to grow their business and enhance their market presence. Tower Regency Hotel in Ipoh, Seri Malaysia and Syeun Hotel have seen a decrease in the number of guests checking in, which directly affects their business because they do not use digital marketing as much as other hotels that can survive over the long term, like Impiana Hotel Ipoh, MRoof Hotel, Weil Hotel and MH Hotel. Therefore, this study aims to identify the most effective digital marketing strategy to enhance hotel performance in Malaysia. Researcher use a systematic review method, taking into account potential articles published from January 2021 to May 2024 on encompassed renowned open-access journals and platforms, such as Wiley Online, Emerald, Google Scholar, Taylors and Francis Online, Elsevier and Springer Link, along with other relevant online articles retrieved via Google search. Variations in the terms used in this research include digital marketing strategies, service quality and hotel performance. Results indicate that the most impacted digital marketing strategies and services on hotel performance are user-friendly websites and apps, mobile check-in/check-out, digital keys and 24/7 customer service. Future research should improve studies on the benefits of digital marketing strategies on customer satisfaction and service quality

Abstract

This study employs a descriptive survey design to comprehensively assess consumer behaviours towards health products promoted on TikTok, targeting Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above. Despite the platform's increasing popularity for health product advertisements, scepticism persists regarding the efficacy of products endorsed by TikTok influencers. Findings reveal a positive response towards TikTok's influence on purchasing behaviour, with users acknowledging the need to verify health claims before making purchases. While there's a slight preference for health products endorsed by influencers, informed decision-making is emphasised. Positive feedback from TikTok users influences others' decisions to try health products, but concerns arise over potential misinformation dissemination and discrepancies between healthcare provider recommendations and patient preferences. Users prioritise influencer credibility and medical expertise, although not all actively seek health-related content. The study sheds light on TikTok's role in shaping consumer perceptions and behaviours, guided by the Transactionality Paradigm Theory. Future research could delve into long-term effects of TikTok endorsements, strategies to mitigate misinformation, and regulatory oversight to enhance consumer trust in health-related advertisements on social media platforms.

Abstract

AbstractCrisis conditions and populist actors in several literatures show a significant relationship, especially in crises that are endogenous or caused by human actions. In an exogenous crisis, the process of politicizing these situations and conditions becomes difficult, because the nature of the crisis is caused by accidental shocks or beyond human control, which tends to create uncertainty about what actions to take. Based on the theory developed by Bobba & Hubé (2021a), the relationship between populist actors and crisis situations and conditions is not only when action is needed to weaken or solve problems, furthermore, populist actors can also act as crisis facilitators whose role is to spread a sense of crisis (Bobba & Hubé, 2021a). Anies Baswedan is known as one of the populist actors who won the 2017 DKI Jakarta Provincial election. As a regional head, Anies Baswedan also has the responsibility to be able to handle the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in DKI Jakarta Province. This article will analyze the response of populist actors, in this case Anies Baswedan, to the initial phase (January – March 2020) of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. The results of this study indicate that Anies Baswedan as a populist actor, not only seeks to weaken crisis situations and conditions through regional quarantine or lockdown policy proposals, but also acts as an actor facilitating crisis situations and conditions, thus providing a foothold or legitimacy for the proposed policies.

Abstract

This research analyzes the political perceptions of faction members in the Garut Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) regarding the formation of Southern Garut Regency. Findings indicate broad support for the expansion, motivated by the need to enhance public services, accelerate development, and improve community welfare in the southern region. Despite this, some factions express skepticism, emphasizing the necessity for in-depth studies and administrative readiness. Utilizing political perception theory, the study explores how DPRD members form their views based on information and interpret their political and social contexts. The research also highlights theoretical limitations, such as insufficient consideration of broader power dynamics and structural influences, including central government policies and local economic interests. These findings underscore the need for further theoretical development to comprehensively capture the complexities of the regional expansion process.
