Abstract

Pilkada is one of the means of democratic leadership succession in a country that claims to be a democracy. One indicator of the success of the democratic process, especially the elections, is the political participation of the community. Youth as an important segmentation in society also becomes important to be studied. This study aims to determine the level of youth participation in the West Java Provincial Election in 2018 and identify the factors driving youth political participation by using qualitative research methods. It is hoped that this research can be useful in improving the quality of Indonesian democracy in the future. The results of this study indicate that there are several factors that encourage an increase in youth political participation in the West Java Pilkad in 2018, namely the figure and track record of the candidate pairs, socialization and campaign factors, regional factors, ulama influence factors and political awareness of the community.

Abstract

This article aims to demonstrate the securitization processes within the Papua conflict during the presidency of Joko Widodo, particularly focusing on the years 2014-2018. The primary focus of this research is Indonesia's security-oriented approach to the Papua issue, specifically examining policy changes in addressing the Free Papua Movement (KKB) post-Reformasi through the securitization framework. Utilizing a qualitative method, the article illustrates significant juridical changes, especially in the use of state security apparatus in handling the current KKB situation in Papua. However, the implementation of new policies also shows overlap and contradiction, leaving the conflict situation in Papua uncertain to this day.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the phenomena of the conflict crisis in Thailand, especially in the aspect of change in the Thai government through a coup. A coup (French: Coup d'etat) is a blow to the state, or can also be interpreted as a form of forced seizure of power. This coup was carried out by the military component trying to seize power from the civilian government. This research uses qualitative methods, data is obtained from secondary sources originating from journals and news sources which are then validated using triangulation techniques. Thailand, as a third world country in the Southeast Asia region, initially had a monarchical system of government which, along with changes in government periods, in the first coup rebellion in 1932 succeeded in overthrowing the power of an absolute monarchy and replacing it with a constitutional monarchy. Following this rebellion were ten other rebellions with 30 trial periods, including the 1991 Thai Coup, 2006 Thai Coup, and 2014 Thai Coup, which in more detail will be the main focus of study in this research.

Abstract

Civil-military relations in Indonesia have experienced ups and downs during several periods of government, namely since the old order, new order, and reform order eras. Military involvement in the political sphere during the new order government has sparked criticism of the professionalism of the Indonesian National Army, as it is considered to have been used as a tool to maintain power through repressive actions. This study uses qualitative methods with literature review techniques to analyze the state of civil-military relations in Indonesia from the new order era to the reform era in an effort to shape a reformist military character. Military control over civilians during the new order era was driven by the need to create political stability and security for the sake of development. However, after the new order era, Indonesia continued to make major changes in realizing a professional national army. In the reform era, the military was under civilian control, which did not allow active military personnel to enter the political and public bureaucratic areas.

Abstract

The air defense in the development of the Nusantara Capital City is one aspect that needs serious attention to support airspace security from various threats that could disrupt stability. The Indonesian Air Force has a strategic role in safeguarding the national airspace. However, in efforts to build air defense at the IKN, there are still various issues to address, hence a measured strategy is needed to realize the expected air defense system. This thesis research method used a qualitative paradigm with a descriptive approach. Technically, data was collected through interviews and literature or document studies as well as constructing relationships between the resulting data categories. The research findings indicate that the potential threats in the IKN airspace are very complex. Starting from the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) is not yet established in the IKN, which increases vulnerability to air threats, and there is still a high incidence of airspace violations in that area. The author analyzes the gap in Indonesia's air defense strategy capabilities through the DOTMLPF-P (Doctrine, Organization, Training, Material, Leadership and Education, Personnel, Facilities, Policy) indicators. Therefore, an integrated air defense system is needed with integration and combination of material elements, as follows multi-spectrum air defense radar, C2 (Command and Control) systems, fighter aircraft, air defense missiles, Indonesian warships with air defense capability, anti-missile systems, anti-drone and supported by air defense facilities and also non-material elements, as follows Doctrine, Organization, Training, Leadership and Education, Personnel and also Policy so that Indonesia can develop a strong and effective air defense strategy to maintain the security of IKN air space.
