Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in teaching the Indonesian language to fifth-grade students at MIN 01 Bengkulu City and its impact on students’ motivation and language skills. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that PjBL implementation consists of three main stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. During the planning stage, teachers designed contextually relevant projects such as creating classroom wall magazines and writing activity reports. In the implementation phase, students actively participated in group collaboration, information exploration, and project development, while teachers acted as facilitators. Evaluation was conducted comprehensively, covering process, product, and students’ collaborative behavior. The results indicate that PjBL effectively enhanced students’ writing, speaking, critical thinking, and sense of responsibility and teamwork. Despite challenges such as time constraints and limited resources, teachers managed them through innovative classroom strategies. Overall, the PjBL model proved effective in creating contextual, creative, and student-centered learning experiences in Indonesian language instruction.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine whether there were differences in students’ learning outcomes between those who applied the Question Student Have strategy (questions from students) and those who applied the Giving Question and Getting Answer strategy (giving questions and receiving answers) in Social Studies learning in Grade VII at SMP Negeri 20 Bengkulu City. This experimental study used a comparative quantitative approach with a dual-paradigm research design involving two independent variables and one dependent variable. The population consisted of Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 20 Bengkulu City in the 2024–2025 academic year, while the sample comprised Class VII A as the experimental class and Class VII B as the control class. The research instrument was a Social Studies achievement test. The data were analyzed using a normality test, a homogeneity test, and a t-test. The results indicated differences in students’ learning outcomes between those using the Question Student Have strategy (questions from students) and those using the Giving Question and Getting Answer strategy (giving questions and receiving answers) in Social Studies in Grade VII at SMP Negeri 20 Bengkulu City. This was evidenced by the t-test results (tcount > ttable = 2.578 > 1.697) or p < 0.05 (i.e., 0.029 < 0.05), meaning that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected.

Abstract

General Background: Islamic boarding schools play a significant role in shaping students’ moral character and discipline through structured educational practices. Specific Background: Within pesantren education systems, disciplinary punishment is commonly applied to maintain order and encourage responsibility among santri. Knowledge Gap: However, growing public concern regarding children’s rights raises questions about whether disciplinary practices in pesantren align with the legal principles of child protection. Aims: This study aims to analyze the forms of punishment implemented at Pondok Pesantren Modern Darussalam Kepahiang and examine their compatibility with the provisions of the Child Protection Law. Results: Using a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, the study identifies three main categories of punishment: physical, psychological, and social sanctions. These disciplinary measures are generally intended to foster discipline, responsibility, and moral awareness rather than to cause harm. When implemented within educational boundaries, the practices are considered consistent with Articles 54 and 59 of the Child Protection Law, while teachers are also legally protected under Law No. 14/2005 on Teachers and Lecturers. Novelty: This research provides a pedagogical and juridical analysis of pesantren disciplinary practices by integrating perspectives of Islamic educational tradition with national child protection regulations. Implications: The findings highlight the importance of establishing clear disciplinary guidelines and providing training for educators to ensure that punishment practices remain educational, ethical, and legally compliant in pesantren environments. Highlights • Identification of three disciplinary sanction categories applied in Islamic boarding school environments• Psychological responses of students reveal varied perceptions toward institutional discipline practices• Absence of formal disciplinary guidelines indicates the need for structured regulatory frameworks Keywords Islamic Boarding School; Child Protection Law; Santri Discipline; Educational Punishment; Pesantren Education

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of academic supervision by madrasah principals in improving the professional competence of Al-Qur'an and Hadith teachers in junior high schools (Madrasah Tsanawiyah) throughout Bengkulu City. The research employed a mixed methods approach with a predominantly qualitative design, involving 30 informants consisting of madrasah principals, teachers, supervisors, and administrators of the KKMTs (School of Islamic Studies) and MGMP (School of Islamic Studies). Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires, and analyzed using thematic and descriptive analysis. The results indicate that academic supervision has been implemented according to formal stages, including planning, implementation, and follow-up. However, it remains predominantly administrative in nature. Supervision implementation demonstrates that teachers have met minimum standards for material mastery but are limited in innovative methods and contextualization of learning. Supervision follow-up has not been conducted systematically and sustainably. The study concludes that academic supervision makes a positive contribution to increasing teachers' reflective awareness and professional competence. However, it requires strengthening needs-based planning, improving the supervisory competence of madrasah principals, and developing a structured follow-up system to be more effective and sustainable.   Keywords: Academic Supervision, Madrasah Principal, Professional Competence, Al-Qur'an Teacher

Abstract

This study aims to describe the efforts of teachers to transform students’ affective values through Social Studies (IPS) learning and to identify the obstacles faced during the process in SMP Negeri 25 Bengkulu City, Bengkulu Province. Bengkulu Province. This study adopted a qualitative descriptive method using a field study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving ten informants consisting of teachers, students, and the school principal. The data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that affective value transformation is carried out through integrated approaches, such as the incorporation of values into teaching materials, active learning methods (case studies, group work), and teacher modeling in daily behavior. Supporting programs, including Clean Friday and social projects, strengthen students’ habituation of moral values, such as tolerance, honesty, cooperation, and environmental awareness. However, the process remains gradual and uneven due to limited instructional time, low student awareness, a lack of standardized affective assessment instruments, and insufficient parental support. The study concludes that effective transformation of affective values requires the synergy of schools, teachers, and families, as well as the development of contextual learning media and systematic evaluation instruments to ensure sustainable moral internalization among students.
