Abstract

In the midst of the escalation of ideological polarization and social segregation due to digital disruption, Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia face a double demand: maintaining religious orthodoxy while responding to the challenges of society 5.0. This research aims to map the transformation of the Islamic education curriculum and pedagogy, moving from the teaching of passive tolerance to the formation of active social resilience. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach based on the PRISMA 2020 protocol, this study analyzed 48 selected empirical articles (2015–2025) focusing on the dynamics of Islamic education in post-conflict and multicultural areas. The findings show the emergence of the "Hybrid Resilience" paradigm, in which Islamic Boarding Schools and Madrasas integrate three strategic elements: (1) moderate theology (Wasathiyah), (2) revitalization of social capital based on local wisdom (such as Sintuwu Maroso and Menyama Braya), and (3) the adoption of global values (Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs). This integration creates an inclusive "third space" to reduce radicalism. However, its effectiveness is still hampered by the digital literacy gap among educators. Islamic education is no longer just a moral fortress, but has evolved into an instrument of adaptive social cohesion. Research recommends the need for a "digital peace pedagogy" to reinforce counter-narratives in virtual spaces

Abstract

The hidden curriculum is vital in pesantren education, often surpassing formal curricula in shaping students' moral foundations. This research synthesizes literature on its implementation and impact on character building from 2021 to 2026. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with the PRISMA protocol, 16 final articles were selected from Google Scholar via Publish or Perish. Findings reveal that implementation manifests through four pillars: exemplary leadership (uswah hasanah), organizational culture, dormitory environment, and digital integration. Dominant traits formed include religiosity, self-reliance, discipline, and soft skills. The study highlights a shift from traditional management to digitalization, altering student interaction patterns. These implications offer a strategic framework for pesantren leaders to optimize unwritten elements, strengthening character education in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate digital transformation strategies for pesantren in response to the challenges of Society 5.0 and to construct a conceptual framework for negotiating Islamic tradition (al-turath) with modern technology. The method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA protocol, analyzing relevant scholarly articles from reputable databases published between 2021 and 2026. The results indicate that digital transformation in pesantren encompasses three primary aspects: pedagogical restructuring through network-based learning models, the adaptation of digital leadership by the Kyai, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in disseminating religious teachings. However, significant challenges emerge, including the potential erosion of the authority of classical books (kitab kuning) and shifts in the socio-cultural values of "santri-hood" in cyberspace. The conclusion of this study asserts that the digital sustainability of pesantren relies heavily on a "creative negotiation" model, where technology is adopted as an acceleration instrument without reducing the essence of scholarly chains (sanad) and spiritual charisma. The resulting conceptual framework serves as a strategic guide for pesantren administrators to maintain institutional resilience within the modern educational landscape.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to examine women’s leadership in Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia through a systematic literature review. It focuses on synthesizing previously fragmented and context-specific research to provide a more coherent understanding across institutional settings and sociocultural contexts. Methods – This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to examine patterns of women’s leadership and gender dynamics in Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia. Using the PRISMA framework, this review analyzes 30 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025. The analysis employs thematic synthesis to identify patterns in leadership models, structural dynamics, and institutional outcomes. Findings – The findings reveal that women’s leadership is multidimensional, encompassing religious-charismatic, managerial-professional, and emerging digital forms. The findings indicate that while structural barriers such as patriarchal norms and institutional hierarchies remain significant, they are not absolute. Women leaders actively negotiate these constraints through adaptive and context-sensitive strategies. As a result, leadership should be understood as a dynamic process shaped by the interplay between structure and agency. Research Implications – This research contributes a structured synthesis that serves as a basis for more context-sensitive research and policy development, offering a clearer framework for understanding female leadership within the landscape of Islamic education.
