Abstract

Articulation errors are often found in children. One of them is PA, 3.5 years old, a preschool student. This study aims to describe articulation errors shown by PA when communicating. This error will have a negative effect on PA if left without proper treatment. The author collected data by recording every word pronounced by PA according to the author's request. Then, the author pays attention to the articulation errors made and groups these errors into four types of articulation errors proposed by Fogle (2017). The author found three types of articulation errors that were often made by PA. PA shows a substitution error in the sound /s/ which changes to the sound /t/ if it is located at the end of the word. However, it changes to /c/ if it is located at the beginning and middle of a word. The sounds /r/ and /l/ change to /n/ when they are at the end of a word, but /r/ changes to /l/ when they are at the beginning and middle of a word. The /n/ sound will change to /ꬼ/ if it is in the middle of a word that has repeated sounds. The author also found omission errors, namely the sounds /g/, /k/, /d/, /j/ will be lost if they are at the beginning of the word. The sounds /l/ and /r/ will also disappear if they are in the middle of a word. Errors in adding sounds were found in the middle of words in the form of a nasal /m/ sound if followed by a /b/ sound and an /n/ sound if followed by a /d/ sound. Meanwhile, the sounds /n/ and /ꬼ/ will appear in the middle of words that have repeated sounds.

Abstract

Misogyny and sexism have become prominent issues in society, particularly in the workplace and daily life. Examining the role of media narratives in shaping public perception and framing events to serve specific agendas or ideologies can offer diverse perspectives. This study conducts of discourse analysis of two media sources: the BBC World Service video "Women fight back as South Korea tries to abolish its Gender Equality Ministry" and the interview video "What Koreans Think about Misogyny in Korea" by Asian Boss. By focusing on narrative structure, language, and representations of misogyny and sexism, this research aimed to reveal how these media platforms frame the issue. Using a qualitative approach, the study analyzed and interpreted the language in these sources. By using Van Dijk's discourse analysis theory with three analytical frameworks (textual analysis, social cognition and social context) as a research tool to explore this issue through the media. These findings indicated that BBC emphasizes structural and systemic issues from a global feminist perspective, focusing on formal cases, while Asian Boss highlights personal experiences and local opinions, focusing on community attitudes. The differences in framing not only underscore the varying emphases in how each media outlet addresses misogyny and sexism but also reveal the impact of media perspectives in shaping public understanding of these issues in South Korea. This analysis suggested broader implications for gender equality policies and the ongoing discourse surrounding women’s rights in the country.

Abstract

This research examines the concept of the Epic Self in William Wordsworth's poem "Lines Written in Early Spring." The Epic concept predates the Romantic Era, but its meaning has evolved. While epic literature focuses on famous figures, the Romantic Era centres the author as the hero. This study utilizes the dialectical method, involving thorough readings of the poem and related sources. The analysis examines each stanza and line, linking them to illustrate the Epic Self. The dialectical method is suitable as it reveals the Epic Self by connecting the poem's content to the author's history. The research finds that the Epic Self emerges as a rejection of Reason's dogmas, prioritizing human emotions and freedom in daily life. An example is the line, "And 'tis my faith that every flower / Enjoys the air it breathes," suggesting that happiness can arise from any moment. This research aims to provide a foundation for understanding the Epic Self, offering an alternative perspective on non-popular works like "Lines Written in Early Spring."

Abstract

Good reading ability is a fundamental skill in learning Indonesian, especially in understanding, analyzing, and evaluating scientific texts critically. However, various studies show that many students still have difficulty in understanding the structure, meaning, and content of the text in depth, which has an impact on their low analytical skills. Therefore, an innovative learning model is needed that can improve reading skills effectively, one of which is through the application of Multiliteracy Integrative Learning (MULGRANING). Using a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method, this study applied a one-group pre-test post-test design to 34 grade XI students at SMAN 2 Padang. The experimental class using the MULGRANING model was implemented with eight steps, namely experiencing, conceptualizing, analyzing, producing & creating, networking, applying, comparing, and synthesizing. While the control class was implemented with conventional learning. Data were collected through descriptive tests and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test in SPSS. The results showed that all students experienced an increase in reading scores after the MULGRANING model was applied. No students were found to have decreased scores or had the same pre-test and post-test scores. The Z value of -5.103 with a p-value of 0.000 indicates that this model is significantly effective in improving reading skills. These findings indicate that the MULGRANING model can be an innovative learning alternative to help students understand, analyze, and evaluate texts better. Therefore, the application of this model is recommended more widely to improve the quality of reading learning in secondary schools.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the Group-Discovery Learning Model on students’ communicative identity and the development of essential 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. This model is rooted in constructivist principles and encourages active learning through peer interaction, problem-solving tasks, and self-directed inquiry. Employing a quasi-experimental design, data were collected from 104 high school students across two schools in Padang who participated in either experimental or control classes. A validated performance-based assessment instrument was used to measure student outcomes across multiple dimensions of skill development. The results revealed significant improvements in 21st-century skills among students in the experimental group, with average post-treatment scores of 84.3 and 84.8, indicating a positive effect of the model. The normalized gain (N-Gain) scores showed medium effects (0.51 and 0.45), demonstrating measurable progress over four sessions. No significant interaction was found between the school category and the model's effectiveness, suggesting its potential adaptability across diverse educational settings. These findings support the Group-Discovery Learning Model as an effective approach for enhancing both cognitive and social competencies essential for modern learners. Despite these positive outcomes, challenges remain, particularly in developing higher-order critical thinking skills such as evaluating peer arguments and synthesizing complex ideas. This suggests that while the model fosters collaborative learning and engagement, additional scaffolding may be required to strengthen analytical reasoning. The study recommends integrating digital tools into the model to enrich collaborative learning experiences and reinforce students’ evolving communicative identities in contemporary language education.
