Abstract

The use of Instagram social media as a promotional medium is not only built based on marketing strategies, but it requires language distinctiveness and strong linguistic power to attract Instagram users. This study examines the marketing strategies and types of illocutionary speech acts used on the Instagram account @udario.id. The method used in this study is descriptive-qualitative. The speech acts found in @udario.id content are (1) Assertive functions to conclude, report, and express; (2) Directive speech acts function to ask, command, and inquire; (3) Expressive speech acts function to complain, blame, thank; and (4) Commissive speech acts serve to promise. The most frequent Speech Acts are illocutionary directives of asking and commanding. By employing directive phrases, creators can significantly enhance engagement and visibility, as these prompts invite followers to interact with the content. When delivered in the local language, these directives become more relatable and understandable, strengthening the connection with the audience and increasing the likelihood of a response. Additionally, such prompts encourage followers to actively participate, fostering a sense of community.

Abstract

Genre based learning or Text-based Instruction is a learning approach used in Indonesian language learning since 2013 until now. However, learning will be more engaging if the learning process is constantly adapted to students' needs and innovations. This study aimed at building a Genre-based Learning paradigm that incorporates literacy activities and character development. The guidelines of the National Literacy Movement and Strengthening Character Education in secondary schools prompted this action. Based on this, the two things are integrated in learning to help teachers implement literacy and strengthen character education in the learning process. This research employed Plomp's Development model (Preliminary Research, Prototyping Phase & Assessment Phase). In the Assessment Phase, researchers tested products that had been developed to determine the practicality and effectiveness of learning Indonesian using the developed model. The research instruments are in the form of questionnaires, observation sheets and tests. The research subjects were students of one of the high schools in the city of Padang. The results demonstrated that the Genre-based Learning model, which integrates literacy activities with character development, is useful and time-efficient for language learning. Additionally, this concept is applicable for enhancing student learning activities. This learning strategy can be utilized as an option to combine literacy activities and character development into secondary school Indonesian language instruction.

Abstract

The change in the curriculum in Indonesia from Curriculum 13 (K13) to the Independent Curriculum requires teachers to be ready to face these changes. Changes in learning tools are something that cannot be avoided by teachers as teachers. The learning plan (RPP) has been abandoned and moved to the Teaching Module. The presence of an independent curriculum not only provides changes to learning tools, but also to the competencies that teachers must have. Digital competence to produce interesting teaching modules has of course become an obligation, especially since the government has equipped teachers with the learn.id email. This email is integrated into the licensed Canva application, so teachers no longer have difficulty in designing teaching modules. It is hoped that the use of teaching modules using the Canva application will be able to answer the need for creating interesting teaching tools. A good teaching module does not only lie in its appearance, but also in its content. Writing teaching modules based on local wisdom will certainly make the teaching modules not only quality in terms of appearance, but also in terms of content. Based on the results of interviews with the head of the Subject Teachers' Conference (MGMP) of SMP Kota Pariaman, it is known that teachers are not yet skilled in designing teaching modules using Canva. Apart from that, the teaching modules that have been designed by teachers are not based on local wisdom. This background is what underlies the community service team of lecturers at the Indonesian and Regional Language and Literature Department to carry out training in writing teaching modules. The teaching module writing training that was carried out was attended by 20 Indonesian language subject teachers who are members of the Pariaman City Indonesian Language MGMP. The aim of this service is to provide knowledge and training to Pariaman City Indonesian Language MGMP teachers in using the Canva application in designing independent curriculum teaching modules. The training began with an explanation of the relationship between the use of technology in implementing the independent curriculum, then the material presented was the steps for using the licensed Canva application using a Belajar.id account. Teachers are guided to register. After registration, teachers go to their Canva account and start designing teaching modules. The teaching module designed by the teacher does not contain differentiated learning, therefore the training continues with conveying the essence of differentiated learning. Strategy in writing teaching modules by paying attention to differentiated learning. The training ended with teaching module material containing local wisdom. Teachers design teaching modules based on the independent curriculum which contains local wisdom in the form of guided assignments. Making teaching modules using the Canva application described previously. The training methods used were question and answer, direct practice and demonstration, and evaluation was carried out through distributing questionnaires before and after the training. The results of the questionnaire analysis showed that in general participants were satisfied with the training schedule and time, as well as the topics presented. Even though some participants experienced difficulties due to inadequate internet connections and devices, there were indications that the participants succeeded in increasing their knowledge and motivation in using the Canva application through the Belajar.id account. Apart from that, the teaching modules produced by teachers are also good and interesting.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of students' critical and collaborative thinking skills is essential, particularly in Indonesian language learning. To address this, a targeted learning model is needed. The Game-Oriented Problem-Based Learning and Engagement (GOPE) model has been proposed, but a needs analysis is required to assess its feasibility and integration into classroom settings. A descriptive survey method was employed to analyze teacher needs for the GOPE model in Indonesian language learning. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to Indonesian language teachers across various schools. The responses were analyzed using a descriptive quantitative approach to identify patterns and trends in teachers' perspectives. Findings revealed that teachers recognized the critical role of integrating problem-based learning and gaming elements to enhance student engagement and motivation. Most participants emphasized that such integration could significantly improve learning outcomes and foster students' critical and collaborative thinking skills. The data supported the hypothesis that the GOPE model could address these educational challenges effectively. The results suggest that the GOPE model has potential as an innovative tool in language learning. Its emphasis on combining problem-solving strategies with interactive gaming aligns with teachers’ views on effective pedagogical practices. Further research and development are recommended to optimize its application and assess its impact on students’ skills and learning achievements. This study highlights the need for innovative learning models in Indonesian language education. The GOPE model shows promise in enhancing critical and collaborative skills, suggesting a positive step toward improved educational practices.

Abstract

Evaluation and assessment play vital roles in language acquisition and overall teaching effectiveness. Despite their importance, research on English language instruction evaluation in Indonesian universities remains scarce. Many lecturers resist classroom evaluation, often viewing teaching as merely delivering content without ongoing reflection or feedback mechanisms. This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach to analyze archival student feedback data collected through an e-learning platform’s questionnaire feature. The research focuses on one lecturer teaching the MKDU English course since 2016, involving 57 classes across 9 study programs from 4 faculties: Engineering, Agriculture, Business, and Law. The questionnaire, consisting of 26 items, served as a reliable instrument for evaluating classroom instruction. Over six years, the lecturer consistently received scores ranging from 4 to 5 on a Likert scale, translating to "very good." The average questionnaire results exceeded 80%, placing the lecturer in the “excellent” category based on the eligibility percentage formula (76%–100%). These findings highlight the effectiveness of structured student feedback in evaluating language instruction. The lecturer’s sustained high scores suggest strong teaching performance and effective engagement across multiple disciplines. This study confirms that student feedback via e-learning platforms can serve as a valid and reliable tool for evaluating English language instruction. The examined lecturer demonstrates consistently excellent performance over six years, reinforcing the value of systematic assessment in language education.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between communication skills and critical thinking skills on students' oral presentation skills. Using a quantitative approach, specifically causal associative research, this research investigates the relationship between the independent variables (communication and critical thinking) and the dependent variable (oral presentation). The research was conducted on Universitas Negeri Padang students taking Indonesian language courses in 2024, with a sample of 40 students selected through purposive sampling. Data collection involves performance tests (projects) and observation sheets, assessed using a predetermined rubric. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS. The results revealed that communication skills and critical thinking skills jointly have a significant effect on students’ oral presentation abilities (F = 38.554, p < 0.05, R² = 0.676). However, when examined individually, only communication skills have a significant positive influence on students’ oral presentation performance (B = 0.637, p < 0.001), while critical thinking skills do not show a significant effect (B = 0.025, p = 0.881).
