Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has encouraged the integration of media and digital literacy into classroom practice so that students are able to access, analyze, evaluate, manage, and create information critically and responsibly. Responding to this need, this study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Multiliteracy Integrative Learning (MULGRANING) model assisted by Google Classroom in improving students’ media and digital literacy within scientific text learning. This research employed a descriptive quantitative method involving 68 grade XI students from two public high schools in Padang City as participants. Data were collected using an expert-validated observation sheet that systematically assessed students’ literacy performances during the learning process, covering indicators of information access, evaluation, management, and utilization. The descriptive analysis revealed varied literacy tendencies among students, with 38.24% categorized as high, 44.12% moderate, and 17.64% low. These findings demonstrated that the implementation of the MULGRANING model effectively supported the development of media and digital literacy, particularly in indicators related to accessing, selecting, and critically evaluating digital information. However, the aspects of information management and utilization were still predominantly in the moderate category, suggesting that students require further guidance in organizing information and applying it to solve problems or produce scientific work. Overall, this study provides empirical evidence regarding the potential of technology-assisted learning models to strengthen students' media and digital literacy competencies. These findings highlight the importance of integrating digital platforms to create more innovative and relevant learning environments.

Abstract

Formative assessment plays a crucial role in improving the quality of learning, but its practice in the classroom is often suboptimal due to limitations in media, methods, and suitability to student characteristics. This study aims to analyze teachers' needs in developing the DIGA-FAM Model (Game-Based Differentiated Learning and Formative Assessment Model) as an alternative formative assessment model that suits students' needs and characteristics. This study used a descriptive method with a survey approach through a questionnaire distributed to Indonesian language teachers in secondary schools. The questionnaire instrument focused on four aspects: teachers' needs for an assessment model, teachers' needs for assessment based on student characteristics, teachers' needs for effective feedback and student engagement, and teachers' needs related to digital-based assessment models. Data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively to map the needs and obstacles faced by teachers. The results showed that teachers urgently need a formative assessment model that not only facilitates differentiated learning but also increases student motivation and engagement through a game-based approach. Furthermore, the integration of digital assessment is considered crucial to facilitate the implementation and continuous monitoring of student learning progress. These findings form an important basis for the development of the DIGA-FAM Model as an innovative solution that can address teachers' needs while supporting an effective and enjoyable learning process.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low anecdotal text writing skills of grade X students of SMAN 3 Padang, which is reflected in students' difficulties in constructing systematic text structures and integrating elements of social criticism into intelligent humor. Most students are still fixated on writing ordinary humorous stories without sharp satire, and are hampered by the use of conventional learning models that do not stimulate multimodal creativity. To overcome these problems, this study applies the Multiliteracy Integrative Learning (MULGRANING) model with social issues. This model was chosen because of its ability to integrate various literacy modes, both visual, digital, and textual, with the context of social reality close to students' lives. This type of research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental method using a Control-Only Group Posttest Design. The study population includes all grade X students of SMAN 3 Padang in the 2024/2025 academic year. The sampling technique used purposive sampling, thus designating Phase E 9 as the experimental class, receiving the MULGRANING model, and Phase E 7 as the control class, using the conventional model. Research data were collected through an anecdotal text writing performance test, which was then assessed using an assessment rubric covering aspects of content, structure (abstract, orientation, crisis, reaction, coda), linguistic aspects, and humor/criticism. In conclusion, the Multiliteracy Integrative Learning model, which addresses social issues, is effective in improving students' creative writing competencies. This research has implications for the importance of pedagogical innovation that connects teaching materials with social phenomena in the digital era to create meaningful and contextual language learning.

Abstract

The development of digital communication has made humor a medium of linguistic expression that not only serves as entertainment, but also as a means of identity formation and social relationship management in virtual spaces. This study aims to reveal the forms, patterns of occurrence, and functions of paronomasia in digital humor discourse on Instagram using an integrated syntagmatic approach. The focus is on how wordplay and language forms are used to convey humorous meaning while building social interaction among social media users. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data consists of humorous posts on the Instagram account @Queteryo published during the period from January to March 2024. Data collection was carried out through documentation and purposive sampling techniques, then analyzed in terms of discourse by combining syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic studies to identify paronomasia patterns and their communicative functions. The results of the analysis show that paronomasia in digital humor most often appears in imperative and declarative sentence structures by utilizing similarities in sound and word form. Pragmatically, paronomasia functions as a means of conveying satire, persuasive appeals, and indirect criticism that can increase audience engagement. The uniqueness of this study lies in the application of an integrated syntagmatic framework that provides new insights into linguistic creativity, the strengthening of digital literacy, and communicative awareness, especially for the younger generation.

Abstract

Social media has become an influential arena for expressing critical perspectives and resistance toward socio-political challenges. Its role in accelerating the circulation of information and shaping public responses is particularly evident in political contexts. This study investigates the implicit and explicit meanings conveyed in Instagram posts from the @serikatpekerjakampus account, employing a pragmatic discourse framework to examine how meanings are constructed and communicated. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research identifies speech acts and implicatures that appear within the multimodal discourse of the posts. The findings reveal that expressive illocutionary acts and imperative implicatures dominate communication strategies. These results indicate that while textual and visual elements apply different modes of meaning-making, they converge toward the same communicative objectives. The multimodal analysis further demonstrates that symbols, idioms, and images serve as semiotic resources of the protests against government policies and reinforce the posts’ critical stance. The implications of these findings highlight Instagram as a strategic platform for fostering critical discourse with strong pragmatic effects on shaping public opinion. In addition, this research positions social media as a significant subject of inquiry within critical linguistics and multimodal studies. Ultimately, the presence of digital criticism illustrates the tangible impact of social media practices on policy-making processes in contemporary socio-political landscapes.

Abstract

The growing demand for personalized and engaging learning experiences in digital education highlights the limitations of conventional formative assessments. Many existing assessment practices fail to accommodate learner diversity and sustain motivation. This study aims to analyze students’ needs as a foundation for developing the DIGA-FAM Model (Differentiation Instruction and Game-Based Formative Assessment Model), which integrates differentiated instruction with game-based elements to create adaptive and enjoyable formative assessments. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected from 104 students through a structured questionnaire and analyzed across six indicators: comfort, interactivity, motivation, differentiation and difficulty level, learning opportunities, and feedback quality. The results show that students prefer formative assessments that are digital-based, interactive, engaging, and tailored to individual learning styles, with opportunities to retry and receive immediate, constructive feedback. These findings emphasize the necessity of developing the DIGA-FAM Model to enhance student engagement, support differentiated learning, improve the effectiveness of formative assessment in classrooms, and fosters meaningful learning experiences.
