Abstract

This research investigates the development of integrated operational systems connecting terminal and ship operations for docking and berthing time optimization through systematic analysis of historical data. Port efficiency depends critically on minimizing vessel turnaround time, with berth allocation, docking procedures, and cargo operations coordination determining overall port productivity and competitiveness. Through qualitative analysis involving port operators, terminal managers, ship agents, harbor masters, and operations research specialists, this study examines how historical operational data can inform intelligent coordination systems improving berthing efficiency. Results demonstrate that data-driven integration systems incorporating predictive analytics, automated scheduling, and coordinated workflows can reduce average berth turnaround time by 15-30%, improve berth utilization by 20-35%, and decrease operational conflicts by 40-60% through optimized allocation and proactive coordination. Key implementation challenges include data quality and availability, system integration complexity, organizational coordination barriers, and resistance to automated decision support. Findings reveal that historical data-based optimization represents transformative advancement from experience-based scheduling to evidence-driven operational planning supporting port efficiency enhancement, capacity maximization, and service reliability improvement. This research contributes to port operations literature by providing practical frameworks for data-driven berthing optimization applicable to diverse port operational contexts.

Abstract

This qualitative study develops and evaluates a mentorship-based educational model designed to facilitate the transfer of occupational health and safety knowledge from veteran seafarers to maritime cadets in Indonesian maritime vocational institutions. While maritime graduates receive comprehensive technical training aligned with Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) standards, they often report feeling unprepared for the health and safety challenges they face at sea, indicating significant gaps in experiential knowledge transfer. The study conducted interviews with 20 veteran seafarers, 12 maritime lecturers, and 15 cadets, alongside a pilot implementation across three BPSDMP institutions. The findings identify key tacit knowledge areas that are insufficiently addressed in current curricula, particularly in practical emergency response adaptation (100% stakeholder recognition), fatigue self-management (94.7%), and psychological coping strategies (91.5%). The research reveals strong support for structured mentorship programs, emphasizing one-on-one relationships (100% cadet endorsement), post-graduation continuation (100% lecturer/cadet support), and weekly digital communication (100%). However, the successful implementation of these programs requires significant professional development for lecturers to facilitate mentorship roles (2.0-point capacity gap), formal institutional policies to legitimize mentorship, and preparation for veterans in pedagogical techniques. Pilot results demonstrate the feasibility of this model across diverse contexts, with high cadet knowledge gains (4.4/5.0 average) and veteran satisfaction (4.6/5.0), though variations across institutions highlight enabling conditions that influence outcomes. This study provides evidence-based implementation guidelines for BPSDMP institutions, offering a roadmap for integrating veteran experiential wisdom into maritime education, with implications for improving both the technical competence and resilience of future maritime professionals.

Abstract

Coastal communities worldwide face unprecedented livelihood threats as 680 million inhabitants experience declining fish stocks, climate change impacts, and economic marginalization despite residing adjacent to valuable marine resources. This research develops a comprehensive Blue Economy Literacy Framework integrating marine conservation education, maritime entrepreneurship training, and cultural heritage preservation to enable sustainable coastal socio-economic development. Through qualitative analysis incorporating perspectives from marine biologists, community development specialists, and coastal education practitioners, this study identifies critical curriculum components, pedagogical approaches, and implementation barriers constraining coastal capacity building initiatives. The framework synthesizes marine biology, social sciences, economics, and educational pedagogy, demonstrating how multidisciplinary literacy programs can simultaneously enhance environmental stewardship, economic opportunity creation, and cultural identity preservation while addressing power asymmetries and gender inequities prevalent in coastal societies. Findings reveal significant gaps in current coastal education approaches, particularly regarding integration of traditional ecological knowledge with scientific marine conservation principles and connection of environmental protection with livelihood generation strategies. The research contributes actionable implementation pathways for coastal stakeholders globally, offering evidence-based strategies for transformative education aligned with SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 1 (No Poverty), while empowering marginalized coastal populations through knowledge, skills, and agency essential for sustainable coastal futures.

Abstract

LPG / C Griya Borneo is a gas vessel with a semi-pressurized type, where the supporting components in the form of cargo handling equipment have a very big influence on the success and safety of ship operations. This is important to note because when the ship will carry out the loading process, the load temperature must be in accordance with the boiling point. High temperatures on ammonia loads can increase the pressure in the tank so that it exceeds the specified pressure limits and ammonia loads that have high temperatures need to be reliquefaction. In addition, the compressor compressor suction pressure that does not work in accordance with what is expected to affect the reliability process. This resulted in the reliquefaction process being longer than usual. The long reliquefaction process results in more fuel being used so that it costs a lot. Therefore the writer makes a thesis related to the problems experienced by the ship owned by PT Humpuss Transportasi Kimia aims to find out how much influence the compressor compressor suction pressure and tank pressure on the process of reliquefaction on the LPG / C Griya Borneo ship, the place where the authors practice.
