Abstract

This study aims to explore the various types of research used in contemporary Islamic education studies, including qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, classroom action research, research and development (R&D), systematic reviews, and bibliometrics. This study is structured in an analytical literature review format, reviewing recent articles, proceedings, and research reports. The results indicate that method diversification is increasingly prominent in the digital era, with the increasing use of mixed methods and bibliometrics, while qualitative research remains the most dominant approach in value-based, cultural, and practical studies of Islamic education. This study emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate methods according to research objectives and the need to strengthen the methodological capacity of Islamic education researchers.

Abstract

Religious extracurricular activities towards strengthening students' Islamic identity refer to a series of activities outside the formal school curriculum designed to deepen the understanding and practice of Islamic teachings among students. The research method used in this study is the literature research method. The results showed that religious extracurricular activities not only strengthen individuals' spiritual understanding and experience, but also promote the application of ethical values in daily life. In addition, these activities support the development of social skills and empathy, and facilitate positive interactions between students from diverse faith backgrounds, encouraging inclusivity and cross-cultural understanding. Finally, this study confirms that religious extracurricular activities play an important role in the formation of communal and personal identities, strengthening individuality while valuing diversity. The implications of the findings suggest that schools should consider including or further developing religious extracurricular programs as an integral part of character education, supporting the formation of ethical, tolerant, and actively contributing young people in a plural society.

Abstract

The literature review on digital literacy among the elderly highlights the barriers faced by this age group in adopting digital technology, including access, understanding, and confidence. The implementation of the community service program shows concrete steps to improve the digital literacy of the elderly, such as hands-on training, partnership building, awareness campaigns, and the creation of a supportive physical environment. Periodic evaluation, documentation of results, and cross-sector collaboration are key in maintaining the sustainability of these programs. The implication of this study is that efforts to improve digital literacy among older adults have the potential to have a positive impact on older adults' quality of life and enable them to stay connected to the digital world more effectively.

Abstract

The development of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum in higher education continues to evolve in response to globalization, technological advancement, and the demand for 21st-century competencies. One widely adopted approach in curriculum development is Outcome-Based Education (OBE), which emphasizes graduate learning outcomes as the primary orientation of education. This study aims to examine the development of an OBE-based PAI curriculum in higher education through a systematic literature review approach. The research method employed a literature study by collecting relevant scientific sources, including journals, books, articles, and educational policy documents related to the implementation of OBE in higher education. A total of 21 literature sources were analyzed to ensure the transparency, validity, and rigor of the review process. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques through data reduction, classification, and interpretation stages. The findings indicate that the implementation of OBE in the PAI curriculum contributes to improving learning quality by emphasizing students’ spiritual, academic, social, and professional competencies. Furthermore, OBE promotes student-centered learning and strengthens outcome-based assessment practices. However, the implementation of the OBE-based PAI curriculum still encounters several challenges, such as limited lecturer understanding, insufficient training, and difficulties in developing authentic assessment instruments. Therefore, institutional policy strengthening, lecturer capacity building, and the development of a systematic evaluation framework are required to ensure the effective and sustainable implementation of OBE in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum in higher education institutions. This study is expected to provide theoretical contributions and practical implications for curriculum development in Islamic higher education institutions practice.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in shaping students’ religious character at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 1 Enrekang, Indonesia. Religious character development has become a crucial concern in contemporary education due to increasing moral challenges among young learners and the growing influence of digital culture. Employing a descriptive qualitative design, this study collected data through observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving IRE teachers, school leaders, and students. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while trustworthiness was ensured through triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal that IRE teachers perform multidimensional roles as educators, role models, motivators, and spiritual mentors. Through classroom instruction, religious habituation programs, exemplary behavior, and continuous guidance, teachers facilitate the internalization of Islamic values such as honesty, discipline, responsibility, respect, and social concern. The study further identifies several supporting factors, including a religious school culture, institutional commitment, adequate facilities, and parental involvement. However, challenges remain, particularly differences in family backgrounds and the influence of social media and external environments. The study concludes that religious character formation is a collaborative and continuous process requiring strong synergy among schools, families, and communities. These findings contribute to the growing literature on character education and provide practical implications for strengthening religious character development in Islamic elementary schools.

Abstract

Character development in early childhood plays a crucial role in fostering moral, social, emotional, and spiritual competencies that influence children's future behavior and personality. This study aimed to examine the characteristics of early childhood learners, explore the implementation of a religious values-based role-playing method, and identify supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its application in character development at Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Kindergarten Dulang, Enrekang Regency, Indonesia. This study employed a descriptive qualitative case study design. Data were collected over a three-month period through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving five key informants consisting of one principal and four classroom teachers. Data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Trustworthiness was ensured through credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability procedures. The findings revealed that children demonstrated positive character development in creativity, empathy, cooperation, independence, self-confidence, adaptability, honesty, responsibility, tolerance, gratitude, and spiritual awareness. Religious values-based role playing enabled children to actively engage in meaningful learning experiences that integrated Islamic values into daily social interactions. Supporting factors included teacher commitment, parental involvement, collaborative school culture, children's readiness, and appropriate learning materials, while inhibiting factors consisted of limited facilities, time constraints, varying levels of understanding among children, and environmental influences. The study concludes that religious values-based role playing is an effective strategy for promoting holistic character development in early childhood education. Practically, the findings provide guidance for teachers and educational institutions in designing character education programs that integrate religious values through experiential learning activities.
