Abstract

The issue of manipulation in the problem of environmental damage is a topic that never expires. Literary works as a medium to disseminate good values and morals in life. One of them is the drama script Mata Air Mata (MAM) by Lab Teater Ciputat which raises environmental issues. Dissemination of this good message can be done because the MAM script is a collection of collective unconsciousness that needs to be traced to the markers and signifieds of the characters it presents. This study will discuss the collective unconsciousness in the form of archetypes, semiotic archetypes, and character ideologies from an ecocritical perspective, in the MAM drama script. The limitation of the problem focuses on the dominant archetype of each character in the MAM drama script, namely the character of Kabut Asap. The research methodology uses qualitative descriptive. The discussion uses the theory of the collective unconscious of Carl Gustav Jung and the semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce. The results of this study show that the dominant archetype of the Kabut Asap character, namely the trickster, shows the ideology of anthropocentrism.

Abstract

Awareness of the importance of natural harmony as an ecosystem for human life has become an important topic to study. The phenomenon of natural damage triggers this condition due to the actions of unscrupulous people in the community. Forest clearing for industrial purposes is one of the triggers. Apart from that, the increasingly complicated management of plastic waste due to a lack of public education about this impact also triggers the destruction of natural balance. Therefore, through this article, the researcher attempts to link this paradigm with the message conveyed through the novel Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak (after this DKBC) by Ahmad Tohari. The method used in preparing this article is genetic structuralism with a literary sociology approach. The results of the research show that based on the story structure found, the author's worldview about the importance of maintaining natural harmony is embedded in the story being told. This view also shows that the harmonization and harmony of nature is an important foundation for Indonesia's golden generation. Therefore, the author's worldview can be an important pillar as an alternative environmental education material delivered through school education.

Abstract

Mass media as news producers can be classified into two groups: incorporated and unincorporated mass media. Although both can produce news with the same topic according to actual conditions, the narratives built are not the same. In response to this, readers' criticality is needed to sort out objective and not tendentious information so that the information does not trigger social conflict in the community. This study aims to compare the characteristics of news discourse of the two mass media groups with a critical discourse analysis approach within the framework of media literacy. Data on legal mass media is based on data on the dewanpers.or.id page. The results show that there are obvious differences from the point of view of linguistic features between the news of digital mass media with legal status and those without legal status. This research is expected to be a policy reference for the government in fostering mass media and society.

Abstract

This research explored cross-cultural comparisons of three folk tales, Cinderella (Europe), Malin Kundang (Indonesia), and Momotaro (Japan), with a focus on their application in English language teaching. The research aimed to analyze these tales' narrative structures, themes, and moral messages and examine their pedagogical value in fostering cultural awareness and enhancing language proficiency among students. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research applied Vladimir Propp's narrative structure theory to analyze the common patterns and functions across the folk tales. The findings revealed that, despite their cultural differences, the stories shared similar narrative frameworks, such as the hero's journey, confrontation with evil, and the restoration of justice. Furthermore, the thematic analysis highlighted universal moral messages, such as the consequences of wrongdoing, the importance of filial duty, and the values of teamwork and courage. This research demonstrated that folk tales were valuable tools for enhancing English language instruction, offering students linguistic skills and a deeper understanding of global cultural values. The implications for teaching suggested that folk tales could improve cross-cultural communication, promote critical thinking, and provide an engaging method for language learning, making them a practical pedagogical resource.
