Abstract

Chronic kidney failure has become a very important issue in recent years due to its increasing frequency and the high costs associated with it is increasingly being seen as a major public health problem associated with premature death with important social and economic implications. In addition to early diagnosis and detection, knowledge related to the causes of hemodialysis patient mortality in Indonesia in 2018 can be used as scientific evidence in planning, program implementation, program evaluation, and determining the priority scale of the hemodialysis patient mortality prevention program in Indonesia, which is the aim of this study. . This type of research is literature review research. The target population is all hemodialysis patients in Indonesia. The affordable population in this study were all hemodialysis patients recorded in the 2018 Indonesian Renal Registry (IRR) data set. The sample of this study was all hemodialysis patients (total sampling) recorded in the 2018 Indonesian Renal Registry data set. Incidence of 3 months of mortality in new HD patients amounted to 31.7%. Age> 60 years, hemoglobin <8 g / dl, serum albumin <3.5 g / dl, ECG abnormalities, and femoral access were significant predictors of mortality in the first 3 months of HD. The comorbid conditions associated with the mortality of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis are age, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, stroke, sepsis, tuberculosis, and pneumonia.

Abstract

The excessive uric acid levels in the body can increase the risk of hyperuricemia. The formation of uric acid starts from the synthesis of purines which produce inosine, adenine and guanine monophospate that will be degraded into uric acid. Peanuts contain purines so if it is consumed in excess, it can increase blood uric acid levels. To know the difference in the average blood uric acid levels of rats given peanuts at a dose of 1gr/200grBB, 2gr/200grBB, 4gr/200grBB and not given peanuts. This research used experimental research with post test control group design approach. The sample in this research used 28 rats that divided into 4 groups; K1 were only given standard feed, P1 were given 1gr / 200grBB peanuts, P2 were given 2gr/200grBB peanuts and P3 were given 4gr/200grBB peanuts in everyday for 28 days. Then measuring the blood uric acid levels of rats. The average blood uric acid level of rats before intervention (K1) is 3,28mg/dl, and after intervention is 3,87mg/dl (P1), 4,20mg/dl (P2) and 5,03mg/dl (P3). There is a significant difference between P2 and K1 (p=0,005 ), P3 and K1 (p=0,000 ). There is no a significant difference between P1 and K1 (p=0,130 ). There is a significant difference in the average blood uric acid level of rats given peanuts at a dose of 2gr/200grBB, 4gr/200grBB and not given peanuts. There is no significant difference in the average blood uric acid level of rats given peanuts at a dose of 1gr/200grBB and not given peanuts.

The selection of appropriate and interesting teaching and learning media is important to support the learning process. This study aims to explore student perceptions of the provision of interactive quizzes in the learning process for students of the University of Lampung Medical Education Study Program: A Qualitative Study. This study used a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach. The informants in this study were first, second, third, and fourth year students with six informants who met the criteria of gender and Grade Point Average (GPA), as well as four lecturers. Data were collected through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with medical students and in-depth interviews with lecturers. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. There are various perceptions from students regarding the provision of interactive quizzes in the learning process. The perceptions obtained are related to the advantages, disadvantages and effectiveness of providing interactive quizzes in the learning process.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the diseases that become a problem in the world because it increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, brain, kidneys, and others. However, this is often not realized because it is often without symptoms. Lifestyle plays a role in the regulation of blood pressure and contributes to the development of hypertension. One of the causes of hypertension is cholesterol. The buildup of cholesterol in the blood will clog blood vessels and stiffness occurs so that blood pressure increases. This study aims to determine the relationship between cholesterol levels and hypertension. This research method was carried out by meta-analysis research through searching articles on Google Scholar with the formula, 'The Relationship of Cholesterol Levels with Hypertension' with a range of 2019-2024. From 8 literature reviews, it was found that the majority of respondents studied who experienced elevated cholesterol levels would also experience an increase in blood pressure. After this study, there was a relationship between cholesterol levels and hypertension.

Abstract

Clitoria ternatea, commonly known as butterfly pea flower, is a tropical plant with high historical and cultural value, particularly in traditional medicine in Indonesia and Asia. This plant is rich in bioactive compounds such as phenols, terpenoids, and alkaloids, which contribute to its various pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, antidiabetic, antihyperlipidemic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, and neuroprotective effects. The phenolic compounds in the flower function as natural antioxidants, while terpenoids and alkaloids support antidiabetic and anticancer effects. This review aims to evaluate the pharmacological potential of C. ternatea based on literature published in the last decade (2014–2024), sourced from PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and ResearchGate. Inclusion criteria were articles in English and Indonesian, while exclusion criteria included incomplete access articles, secondary reviews, and studies with weak methodologies. Based on this review, C. ternatea shows great potential as an alternative modern therapy, with consistent research demonstrating significant therapeutic activity and low side effects. Its bioactive compounds work through mechanisms such as enzyme inhibition, glucose regulation, inflammation modulation, and protection from oxidative stress, making it a promising candidate for innovative therapeutic development.

Abstract

Bacterial infections, especially those caused by Salmonella typhi, are a global health challenge, including in Indonesia, where there is a high prevalence of typhoid fever. Treatment of this infection generally relies on antibiotics, but increasing antibiotic resistance is becoming a big problem. Therefore, there is a need for alternative treatments that are safer and more effective. This study aims to evaluate the ability of ethanol extract of fennel fruit (Foeniculum vulgare) to inhibit the growth of Salmonella typhi. Extraction was carried out using the maceration method using 70% ethanol, followed by evaporation of the solvent to obtain a stock solution. The extract concentrations tested included 5%, 10%, 20%, 40%, and 80%, with distilled water as a negative control and antibiotics as a positive control. Antibacterial testing was carried out using the disk diffusion method on Mueller Hinton Agar media, and the inhibition zone was measured after 48 hours of incubation. The results showed that fennel fruit extract effectively inhibited the growth of Salmonella typhi at an extract concentration of 20%, with the diameter of the inhibition zone increasing as the concentration increased, reaching 4.75 mm at a concentration of 80%. Statistical tests with Kruskal-Wallis showed significant differences between treatments. This research proves that ethanol extract of fennel fruit has antibacterial potential which can be used as an alternative in treating Salmonella typhi infections, especially considering that it is safer than synthetic antibiotics.
