Abstract

Toddler period is an important phase in the growth and development of children. The role of parents, especially mothers, is needed to help children develop motor skills so that children's development can be maximized. The objective of this study is to analyze the mother's role in stimulating the child's motor development. The research method is cross sectional. The population in this study were mothers who had children aged 1-3 years in the work area of the Mangasa Primary Health Center, Makassar, amounting to 45 people. The sample in this study was 45 people, taken with a saturated sampling technique or the total population. The statistical test used the chi square test. The results presented that 95.7% of mothers who played a role in stimulating children's motor development had children whose development was appropriate. The results of the chi square test obtained p value <0.001. The conclusion is that there is a relationship between mother's role in stimulation and the motor development of toddler. It is expected that the Primary Health Center or midwives will provide training to mothers about providing developmental stimulation so that mothers can independently assess their child's development and pay attention to their child's development according to age.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea, commonly known as menstrual pain or cramps, affects some women and hampers their ability to carry out daily activities. In Indonesia, the incidence of dysmenorrhea among women is reported to be 64.25%, with a significant proportion lacking knowledge regarding its management. Non-pharmacological methods, such as effleurage massage, have been suggested as a viable approach to alleviate dysmenorrhea pain. This study aimed to investigate the impact of effleurage massage on the pain scale associated with dysmenorrhea in adolescents. A quasi-experimental approach utilizing a pre- and post-test for a two-group design was employed. The study population consisted of young women experiencing dysmenorrhea, with a total sample size of 44 respondents divided into intervention and control groups. The research findings revealed a decrease in the mean pain score in the intervention group from 5.1±2.4 to 2.5±1.8 with a p-value of <0.001. Thus, it can be concluded that effleurage massage effectively reduces the intensity of dysmenorrhea pain in adolescents. As a recommendation, adolescents are advised to consider non-pharmacological therapies like effleurage massage as an alternative to pharmacological drugs, and to learn the technique to perform effleurage massage independently at home.

Abstract

Postpartum blues is a common emotional condition affecting mothers after childbirth, with a global prevalence of approximately 39.0%. This condition arises from an interplay of biological, psychological, and social influences, including hormonal fluctuations and psychosocial stressors such as role transition and sleep deprivation. Consistent emotional and practical support from partners and family members helps buffer these stressors. This systematic review aimed to explore the specific role of husbands in preventing postpartum blues by examining various forms of their involvement during pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, and postpartum care. Following PRISMA guidelines, relevant English-language studies published between 2019 and 2024 were systematically identified from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. After independent screening of 3,073 initial records by two reviewers and subsequent exclusions, 11 new studies were included for synthesis. The findings highlight that husband involvement in prenatal care significantly reduces the incidence of postpartum blues , and participation in digital mental health interventions enhances emotional support for women experiencing postpartum depression. Perceived husband support consistently correlates with improved emotional well-being and quality of life, extending beyond immediate emotional assistance to impact overall maternal QoL. Other factors like maternal age, education, parity, and broader family support also influence postpartum blues symptoms. This review underscores that active and consistent husband involvement is crucial for mitigating postpartum emotional challenges and improving maternal well-being, advocating for its integration into maternal health programs.

Abstract

Background: Female Genital Cutting (FGC) remains a deeply embedded cultural practice in several regions of Indonesia despite regulatory prohibitions. The practice poses significant risks to the health, rights, and well-being of young girls. This study aimed to describe the determinants of FGC practices among mothers of girls aged 0–6 years in Kayamanya Village, Central Sulawesi. Methods: This descriptive study involved 87 mothers selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a validated structured questionnaire assessing knowledge, attitudes, sociocultural support, and family support. Descriptive statistics were used to present the distribution of all variables. Results: The prevalence of FGC was 81.6%. Most mothers were aged 20–35 years (76%), had a high school education (47%), and were unemployed (79%). Family support (65.5%) and sociocultural influence (50.6%) were the most prominent determinants sustaining the practice. Maternal knowledge remained low, with 62% showing poor understanding of FGC-related risks. Conclusion: FGC remains highly prevalent in Kayamanya Village and is strongly sustained by family and sociocultural pressures. Culturally sensitive community-based interventions are needed to improve knowledge and address misconceptions surrounding FGC.

Abstract

Introduction: Antenatal Care (ANC) coverage reflects access to healthcare during pregnancy. Husbands play a crucial role in encouraging ANC attendance through their knowledge, attitude, and support. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between husbands’ knowledge, attitudes, and support and the frequency of their wives’ ANC visits in Wakai Village, Indonesia. Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study included 40 husbands whose wives were pregnant in the second or third trimester or had delivered within the past month. Total sampling was performed. Data on husbands’ sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and support toward ANC were collected using structured interviewer-administered questionnaires, while the frequency of ANC visits was verified using the Maternal and Child Health Handbook (KIA). Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and multivariable logistic regression using STATA 15.1. Results: Overall, 47.5% of wives had completed four or more ANC visits. Husbands with good knowledge and positive attitudes tended to have wives with more frequent ANC visits; however, these associations were not statistically significant in the multivariate analysis. In contrast, husbands’ support showed a strong and significant association with ANC utilization. Wives whose husbands provided support were 4.9 times more likely to complete at least four ANC visits than those whose husbands did not provide support (AOR = 4.9; 95% CI: 1.0–35.0; p < 0.05). Conclusion: Husbands’ support was the strongest determinant of regular ANC attendance among pregnant women in this rural setting, whereas knowledge and attitudes alone were not consistently associated with visit frequency. Interventions to improve maternal health in similar contexts should prioritize strengthening husbands’ practical support along with educational efforts.

Abstract

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally, with 17.9 million deaths in 2019, of which 85% were caused by stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD). In Indonesia, CHD accounts for 26.4% of all deaths; therefore, controlling risk factors is a priority. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between modifiable risk factors (smoking, obesity, hypertension, and lifestyle) and the incidence of CHD. Methods: This analytical study used a cross-sectional design with accidental sampling and was conducted at the Heart Polyclinic of the Undata Hospital, Central Sulawesi, in August 2025. A total of 112 respondents aged ?35 years who sought treatment were included in this study. Data were collected through direct measurements (blood pressure, height, and weight) and questionnaires assessing smoking habits, lifestyle, and medical histories. Ethical approval was obtained from the Health Research Ethics Committee of Poltekkes Kemenkes Palu. Data analysis included univariate, chi-squared (95% CI), and logistic regression tests. Results: Among 112 respondents, 56 (50%) were diagnosed with CHD. There was a significant association between CHD and smoking (p < 0.001), obesity (p = 0.004), hypertension (p = 0.001), and lifestyle habits (p = 0.031). Logistic regression analysis identified smoking as the strongest predictor of CHD (odds ratio [OR] = 16.626; p = 0.009). Conclusion: Smoking, obesity, hypertension, and lifestyle were significant risk factors for CHD, with smoking emerging as the main determinant. Preventive strategies should prioritize smoking cessation, weight control, hypertension management, and promotion of healthy lifestyles.
