Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Objective: The 2022 PISA scores, which placed Indonesia 69th out of 80 countries and sixth among ASEAN nations, demonstrate that the quality of education in Indonesia still needs to be improved and that equal distribution to several remote areas must be carried out. Improving the quality of education aligns with global goals in SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) because educational enhancement can reduce poverty rates and increase labor productivity. This research aims to analyze the influence of the poverty rate variable (X1) and GRDP (X2) on the average years of schooling in Sleman Regency for the 2015-2024 period. This research type uses a quantitative descriptive approach with secondary data obtained from bps.go.id for Sleman Regency. Method: The data analysis in this study employed a multiple linear regression method (Ordinary Least Squares or OLS) using EViews 12 software. Results: The results indicate that, both simultaneously and partially, the poverty rate does not exert a signify can’t yet positive influence. This can be attributed to the existence of educational assistance and policies from the Sleman Regency government that support underprivileged communities. In contrast, the GRDP variable has a significant and positive effect, both simultaneously and partially. This is because the rate of economic growth encourages individuals to pursue higher levels of education. Therefore, policies focused on poverty reduction and enhancing economic growth are necessary to enable underprivileged communities to access higher education. Novelty: To date, no previous studies have examined the effect of poverty levels and GRDP on average length of schooling. Most other studies have focused on the provincial level, and none have simultaneously examined the variables of poverty levels and GRDP on average length of schooling in Sleman Regency for the period 2015-2024.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the development of the consumption behavior model for Academic Achievement Scholarship (AAS) grantees in the Faculty of Economics in Indonesia. This research was quantitative. Samples were taken from six major universities in the region, which spanned three major Indonesian islands, and included a total of 238 students from the Faculty of Economics in Indonesia who received the AAS Scholarship. Methods of data collection include the use of questionnaires, which are analyzed using SEM-PLS. The data demonstrated that economic literacy did not affect consumptive behaviour, hedonic conformity exerted a positive and meaningful influence on consumptive behaviour, self-control was found to positively and significantly influence consumptive behaviour, economic literacy and hedonic conformity had a negative and significant effect on self-control, and self-control can mediate the effect of economic literacy on consumptive behaviour. Self-control can also mediate the effect of hedonic conformity on consumptive behaviour. The implication is that self-control mediates the relationship between economic literacy and hedonic conformity in consumptive behavior. This research investigates the mediating role of self-control in the relationship between economic literacy, hedonic conformity, and consumption behavior, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of the factors influencing consumption patterns among scholarship recipients.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to changes in consumption habits and irrational consumption, which also exhibit a strong tendency towards family economic education (FEE) in shaping student economic behavior and economic irrationality (IR). The novelty of this study lies in the exploration of the relationship between FEE and students’ economic behavior mediated by basic economic (BE) understanding, which is still under-explored in the context of economic education in Indonesia. This study uses a quantitative approach with structural equation modeling (SEM). A total of 385 students of economics or economic education study programs are spread across 38 provinces in Indonesia. The finding of the research indicate that FEE has a significant but relatively weak positive effect on students’ BE understanding. In addition, FEE directly increases students’ irrationality, as well as BE understanding, which also turns out to contribute positively to such irrational behavior. This finding implicitly shows that the delivery of intensive FEE information does not always have a positive impact but can actually strengthen IR in students. Thus, this study emphasizes the need for a more careful and selective approach in FEE to reduce students’ irrational behavior.

Abstract

Objective: This study examines the relationship between social exclusion and labor force participation among the elderly in Indonesia. Method: Utilizing data from the fifth wave of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) in 2014, the research harnesses a social exclusion index that is built based on three dimensions: financial deprivation, social isolation, and lack of basic social rights. Results: Using a marginal effect of a logistic model, the study shows a robust positive and significant effect of social exclusion on decision to keep elderly participates in labor force. This finding persists even after controlling for demographic characteristics, health and cognitive ability, and job-related demands. Novelty: The results support the social compensation hypothesis, indicating that work in later life often functions as a necessity fulfillment rather than a choice for productivity. Therefore, elderly employment may signal underlying vulnerabilities in social basic right and challenging the optimistic view of second demographic benefit.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of the Human Development Index (HDI) and economic growth on income inequality in East Java Province over the period 2015–2024. Despite sustained regional economic growth, income inequality remains a persistent issue, indicating that economic progress may not be evenly distributed across society. Method: This research employs a quantitative approach using secondary time-series data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency of Indonesia. The data are analyzed using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression method to identify the partial and simultaneous effects of HDI and economic growth on income inequality, which is measured using the Gini ratio. Classical assumption tests are conducted to ensure the validity of the regression model. Results: The empirical findings indicate that both HDI and economic growth do not have a statistically significant effect on income inequality in East Java during the study period. The F-test shows significance (p = 0.010), but partial t-tests reveal insignificance for both HDI (p = 0.089) and economic growth (p = 0.308). This statistical pattern significant F-test with insignificant t-tests suggests potential model instability due to the limited sample size (N=10) and omitted variable bias, rather than meaningful economic relationships. Conversely, economic growth shows a positive coefficient, indicating a tendency to increase income inequality. These results suggest that economic growth in East Java has not yet been inclusive and that improvements in human development have not been sufficient to substantially mitigate inequality. Moreover, the HDI coefficient (-6.64E-05) is economically negligible: even a hypothetical 100-point increase in HDI would reduce the Gini ratio by only 0.00664, an effect too small to be policy-relevant.  Novelty: This study tests inclusive growth propositions at the provincial level in Indonesia and shows that aggregate time-series models with limited observations are insufficient to capture the complex links between growth, human development, and inequality in East Java. The findings provide a diagnostic contribution by emphasizing the need for spatially disaggregated data and more advanced econometric approaches in future research.
