Abstract

The Culinary Expertise Program at SMKN 1 Luak, established in 2015, aims to equip students with professional skills for employment or entrepreneurship. However, tracer studies from 2021 to 2023 indicate that a significant number of alumni are unemployed or work outside their field, raising concerns about program effectiveness. This study employed the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model using a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected from 87 alumni through questionnaires, while qualitative insights were obtained from six purposively selected school stakeholders via semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The overall program scored 76.60%, indicating moderate appropriateness. The context dimension, including alignment with school vision and graduate needs, was rated as appropriate. The input component revealed moderate curriculum relevance and inadequate infrastructure, particularly a lack of standard practice facilities. The process evaluation showed that theory-based instruction was implemented effectively, but practical learning activities were constrained by limited resources. The product aspect received positive ratings, with most students meeting skill competency standards and obtaining certification, although graduate employment outcomes remain suboptimal. While the program meets several of its educational objectives, gaps remain in curriculum-industry alignment, infrastructure adequacy, and student motivation. Strengthening partnerships with industry, revising the curriculum to match labor market demands, and investing in hands-on learning facilities are essential to improve graduate employability and program impact.

Abstract

The Teaching Factory (TEFA) is an educational model designed to bridge the gap between vocational training and industry demands by integrating real-world production experiences into the learning process. While TEFA aims to develop both technical and soft skills, its effectiveness remains underexplored, particularly in rural contexts. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using Tyler’s Goal-Oriented Evaluation Model to assess the implementation of TEFA in the Culinary Program at SMK Negeri 1 Lubuk Sikaping, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. Informants included school leaders, teachers, students, and industry partners. Data triangulation and thematic analysis were used to ensure validity. Findings revealed that while TEFA was fully integrated into daily instructional activities and contributed to students’ technical competence and work readiness, the program fell short in several key areas. These include: (1) vague and non-measurable objectives, (2) lack of alignment between activities and goals, (3) absence of standardized soft skills assessment tools, (4) informal and inconsistent evaluation practices, (5) limited data documentation, and (6) insufficient industry collaboration in performance evaluation. Despite its strengths in fostering industry-like experiences, TEFA’s effectiveness is constrained by gaps in planning, assessment, and feedback systems. Strengthening evaluation protocols, developing rubrics for soft skills, and integrating digital tools for performance tracking are essential to align TEFA with its intended outcomes.

Abstract

Minyak kelapa murni (Virgin Coconut Oil/VCO) merupakan produk bernilai ekonomi tinggi dengan potensi pasar lokal maupun nasional. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Kenagarian Sikabu, Kecamatan Lubuk Alung, Kabupaten Padang Pariaman, untuk meningkatkan nilai jual kelapa melalui pelatihan pembuatan VCO dan sabun berbasis VCO bagi Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT). Rendahnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan anggota KWT menjadi latar belakang kegiatan ini. Melalui pendekatan partisipatif, kegiatan dibagi menjadi tiga tahap: sosialisasi, demonstrasi, dan evaluasi. Sosialisasi dilakukan melalui penyuluhan mengenai manfaat dan proses pembuatan VCO dan sabun berbasis VCO. Tahap demonstrasi mempraktikkan pembuatan VCO tanpa pemanasan dan sabun berbasis VCO. Evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pemahaman peserta. Hasil kegiatan mencakup produk VCO dan sabun berbasis VCO yang ramah lingkungan, serta tumbuhnya semangat kewirausahaan perempuan dalam mengembangkan produk unggulan daerah.

Abstract

Perkembangan media digital telah menghadirkan ruang baru bagi praktik seni pertunjukan, termasuk seni tari tradisional. TikTok sebagai platform berbasis video pendek menjadi medium yang memungkinkan tarian tradisional direpresentasikan ulang dalam format dance challenge yang bersifat visual, cepat, dan viral. Salah satu fenomena yang menonjol adalah transformasi Tari Zapin, tarian tradisional Melayu yang sarat nilai religius, kesantunan, dan spiritualitas, ke dalam bentuk konten digital di TikTok. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk transformasi Tari Zapin dalam dance challenge TikTok di era post-realitas serta mengkaji perubahan makna dan nilai budaya yang menyertainya. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif-analitis melalui observasi digital (digital ethnography), wawancara, dan studi literatur. Analisis data dilakukan dengan pendekatan semiotika dan fenomenologi budaya, menggunakan teori tari, post-realitas Jean Baudrillard, representasi budaya, serta teori transformasi seni. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Tari Zapin mengalami pergeseran bentuk dari ekspresi ritual dan sosial menjadi representasi visual yang tunduk pada logika algoritma dan estetika digital. Transformasi ini menyebabkan terjadinya pergeseran makna dan nilai budaya Zapin dari substansi spiritual menuju citra performatif. Namun demikian, Zapin digital juga menunjukkan kemampuan budaya lokal untuk beradaptasi dan bertahan melalui reinterpretasi di ruang digital. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa transformasi Tari Zapin di TikTok merupakan wujud negosiasi antara tradisi dan teknologi dalam konteks budaya post-realitas

Abstract

Batik merupakan warisan budaya Indonesia yang tidak hanya memiliki nilai estetika, tetapi juga mengandung makna ideologis yang merepresentasikan pandangan hidup masyarakat pendukungnya. Batik Tanjung Jabung Barat, khususnya yang berkembang di wilayah Tungkal Ilir, menampilkan motif-motif yang berakar pada nilai religius, adat istiadat Melayu, serta relasi harmonis antara manusia dan alam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk motif Batik Tanjung Jabung Barat serta menganalisis nilai-nilai ideologi budaya masyarakat Tungkal Ilir yang terkandung di dalamnya. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara dengan perajin batik dan tokoh budaya, serta studi dokumentasi dan literatur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa motif-motif seperti Rehal dan Tunjuk Ngaji, Hutan Mangrove, dan Biota Laut merupakan representasi ideologi budaya Melayu yang menekankan religiusitas, kearifan ekologis, kerja keras, dan harmoni sosial. Batik Tanjung Jabung Barat berfungsi tidak hanya sebagai produk seni dan ekonomi kreatif, tetapi juga sebagai media pewarisan nilai ideologis dan identitas budaya masyarakat Tungkal Ilir di tengah arus modernisasi.

Abstract

The Chinese community represents one of the ethnic groups with a long-standing history of socio-cultural interaction with the Minangkabau society in Padang City. This study aims to examine the process of socio-cultural integration of the Chinese community within the Minangkabau society, particularly in relation to local adaptation and cultural assimilation in everyday social life. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through participant observation and in-depth interviews with key informants, including the Secretary General of HTT Central Padang, local Minangkabau community members, and individuals from the Chinese community. In addition, document analysis of relevant historical and cultural records was conducted to support the findings. The results indicate that the Chinese community in Padang City has undergone a strong process of cultural localization through intensive interaction with the Minangkabau society. Cultural assimilation is reflected in the use of local language in daily communication, intermarriage practices, and adaptation to local social and cultural norms. One notable form of integration is observed in wedding ceremonies, where the Chinese community accommodates the provision of halal food as a form of respect for Minangkabau cultural values. Despite these adaptations, the Chinese community continues to preserve its cultural identity amid contemporary socio-cultural dynamics. The findings suggest that socio-cultural integration between the Chinese community and the Minangkabau society in Padang occurs harmoniously through processes of adaptation, tolerance, and mutual respect, ultimately enriching local cultural diversity.

Abstract

This study examines the local culture of Nagari Gadut as preserved through the traditions of Manjapuik Batu and Manampuang. The main issue addressed in this research is the limited written documentation and academic studies on these traditions, which are predominantly transmitted orally and are vulnerable to changes in meaning over time. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation, cultural meanings, and social functions of Manjapuik Batu and Manampuang within the community of Nagari Gadut. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through literature review, direct observation, and in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and local community members. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis to interpret the values and meanings of the traditions from the perspective of the supporting community. The findings indicate that the Manjapuik Batu tradition functions as a customary practice related to death rituals, emphasizing values of mutual cooperation, togetherness, and adherence to adat norms. Meanwhile, the Manampuang tradition reflects social solidarity, discipline, and principles of equality through the equal distribution of sacrificial meat to all participants. The study concludes that both traditions serve not only as local cultural heritage but also as value systems that shape the social character of the Nagari Gadut community and therefore need to be documented as part of cultural preservation efforts.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Project-Based Learning in teaching traditional Randai dance. The research aims to explore how Project-Based Learning enhances student engagement, collaboration, and cultural expression. A qualitative approach was employed, involving classroom observations, lesson planning analysis, and project evaluation. The findings indicate that PjBL fosters active student participation, effective group collaboration, and the development of creativity, cultural awareness, discipline, and social responsibility. Teachers successfully designed lesson plans, learning objectives, and project frameworks aligned with Project-Based Learning principles, although adjustments in time allocation and media selection were necessary. The study concludes that integrating Project-Based Learning in teaching Randai Kuantan dance strengthens students’ artistic skills and appreciation of local culture, offering a model for culturally responsive and project-oriented learning in vocational education

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis adaptasi sosial-budaya masyarakat Nias di Kota Padang, Sumatera Barat. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, penelitian ini berfokus pada peran Ikatan Keluarga Nias (IKN) dalam melestarikan tradisi budaya di tengah dominasi budaya Minangkabau. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat Nias berhasil mempertahankan identitas budaya mereka melalui tradisi pernikahan, upacara pemakaman, seni, dan agama. Integrasi dengan budaya lokal ditandai dengan partisipasi dalam tradisi Minangkabau, penggunaan bahasa Minang, dan adopsi nilai-nilai sosial. Tantangan utama dalam adaptasi ini adalah modernisasi dan pergeseran nilai akibat interaksi budaya.

Abstract

Vocational high schools (SMK) play an important role in preparing skilled workers in Indonesia. However, many graduates still face difficulties entering the job market. This study aims to explore the implementation of the Teaching Factory (TeFa) model in the culinary department at SMKN 2 Pariaman and to examine stakeholders’ perceptions of its influence on students’ work readiness. Employing a descriptive qualitative single-site case study design, data were collected through interviews, observations of learning and production activities, and analysis of relevant institutional documents. The study involved seven informants, including the school principal, the head of the TeFa unit, three productive teachers in the culinary department, and two students directly participating in the TeFa program. Data were analyzed using the POAC (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling) framework. The findings reveal that TeFa implementation faced several challenges, particularly informal planning processes, a suboptimal organizational structure, limited management of human resources, and inadequate facilities. Nevertheless, participants perceived positive outcomes of the TeFa program, such as improved practical skills, work discipline, and self-confidence among students, although these outcomes were not supported by standardized competency measurements. Despite its perceived benefits, high teacher workloads and limited infrastructure constrained optimal implementation. This study recommends strengthening formal planning, enhancing collaboration with industry partners, and integrating entrepreneurial aspects into learning activities. The findings provide context-specific insights for vocational school administrators and policy makers seeking to improve Teaching Factory implementation and better align vocational education with industry needs.
