Abstract

Students with mild intellectual disabilities often face challenges in understanding abstract concepts and require specialized learning tools that support visual and interactive engagement. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of a Canva-based Interactive Learning Multimedia (ILM) designed specifically for vocational culinary education at SLB Negeri 1 Padang. Employing the Research and Development (R&D) method, this study involved expert validation, user practicality testing, and effectiveness analysis using quantitative techniques. Content and media validation were conducted by six experts using the Aiken’s V formula, practicality was assessed by one teacher and five students through questionnaires, and effectiveness was tested using normality, homogeneity, T-test, and effect size calculations with SPSS 27. The findings revealed that the ILM was highly valid, with average Aiken’s V scores of 0.97 (material experts) and 0.92 (media experts). Practicality scores from both students (3.87) and teachers (3.85) classified the media as very practical. Statistical analysis showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The T-test results demonstrated a significant difference in learning outcomes (t = 4.382 > t-table = 2.306; p < 0.05), indicating the effectiveness of the media. Furthermore, the effect size (Cohen's d = 2.8) suggested a very large effect on student performance. In conclusion, the Canva-based Interactive Learning Multimedia is a valid, practical, and highly effective tool to enhance vocational learning outcomes for students with mild intellectual disabilities. This innovation is recommended for broader implementation and further development in inclusive education settings.

Abstract

Each ethnic group in Indonesia has its own customs and culture that form its identity. The presence of these two ethnic groups in the same geographical area has created interesting social and cultural dynamics to study, particularly in terms of the norms of communication they have established in their daily lives. This study aims to analyze the intercultural communication norms of the Javanese and Minang ethnic groups and identify the strategies used to overcome differences in communication norms. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection conducted through direct observation, in-depth interviews with community leaders from both ethnic groups, and sources from scientific articles. The results of the study found that the Javanese and Minang ethnic communities in Jorong Timbulun Atas use two methods of communication accommodation, namely convergent and divergent adaptation strategies in intercultural communication, with Indonesian as the everyday language because it is a language that can be understood by people of different cultures. It can be concluded that the Javanese ethnic group, with its refined, polite, and gentle characteristics, and the Minang ethnic group, with its assertive nature, can coexist in the same geographical space, creating social dynamics.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Project-Based Learning in teaching traditional Randai dance. The research aims to explore how Project-Based Learning enhances student engagement, collaboration, and cultural expression. A qualitative approach was employed, involving classroom observations, lesson planning analysis, and project evaluation. The findings indicate that PjBL fosters active student participation, effective group collaboration, and the development of creativity, cultural awareness, discipline, and social responsibility. Teachers successfully designed lesson plans, learning objectives, and project frameworks aligned with Project-Based Learning principles, although adjustments in time allocation and media selection were necessary. The study concludes that integrating Project-Based Learning in teaching Randai Kuantan dance strengthens students’ artistic skills and appreciation of local culture, offering a model for culturally responsive and project-oriented learning in vocational education

Abstract

This research conducted in Kampung Keling, Padang City, West Sumatra Province aims to explore the dynamics of the existence of the Indian ethnic community within the Minangkabau cultural environment as a representation of Indonesia's ethnic diversity. The main objective of the study is to understand how social interactions between the Indian ethnic group and the Minangkabau community influence cultural identity, the preservation of customs and traditions, religious practices, and socio-economic development among the Indian community. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the Indian ethnic group in the Minangkabau region has experienced a gradual acculturation process, resulting in a form of cultural transformation that blends elements of Indian heritage with Minangkabau culture. Over time, they have successfully adapted to the local social environment while still maintaining distinctive cultural characteristics rooted in their ancestral traditions. Social interaction between the two ethnic groups plays a significant role in shaping processes of adaptation and cultural acculturation. The commitment to preserving Indian cultural identity is reflected in efforts to sustain traditional customs, religious values, and cultural practices, despite the pressures of modernization and globalization. Various cultural activities and community organizations help support this continuity. Overall, this research provides deeper insight into cultural plurality in Indonesia and highlights the importance of multicultural harmony. It offers valuable reference material for policy development related to ethnic diversity and cultural identity preservation within multicultural societies.

Abstract

This article discusses the socio-cultural dynamics of the Javanese community in Tanjung Emas District, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra, in the context of adaptation and acculturation with the Minangkabau community. This study reveals how the Javanese community, as a transmigration population, has succeeded in maintaining ancestral traditions such as kenduri, slametan, and wedding customs, while adopting local cultural elements, such as the use of Minangkabau traditional clothing and the tradition of kenduri adat. This cultural harmony is seen in strong social relations through mutual cooperation, mixed marriages, and cross-cultural interactions. This article also shows the role of Javanese associations in strengthening relations between communities and the younger generation who are able to balance Javanese cultural identity with openness to Minangkabau culture. With an observational approach and in-depth interviews, this article emphasizes the importance of tolerance and openness in creating cultural synergy that enriches the diversity of traditions in Indonesia.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji persepsi generasi muda terhadap nilai-nilai budaya lokal di Kabupaten Pasir Pangaraian dalam konteks perubahan sosial dan budaya. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kekhawatiran terhadap melemahnya praktik nilai budaya lokal di kalangan generasi muda, meskipun budaya tersebut masih diakui sebagai identitas penting. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk menganalisis bagaimana generasi muda memahami, memaknai, dan memposisikan nilai-nilai budaya lokal dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode wawancara mendalam kepada generasi muda yang dipilih secara purposif. Analisis data dilakukan melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Kajian teori berpijak pada konsep persepsi budaya, generasi muda, dan transformasi budaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa generasi muda memiliki pemahaman yang cukup baik terhadap nilai budaya lokal, namun pemahaman tersebut belum sepenuhnya diwujudkan dalam praktik nyata. Nilai budaya lokal dipersepsikan sebagai simbol identitas, tetapi penerapannya mengalami penyesuaian dengan gaya hidup modern dan lingkungan sosial. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa budaya lokal tidak hilang, melainkan mengalami proses penafsiran ulang agar tetap relevan dengan perkembangan zaman.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of learning facilities in supporting the learning process of housekeeping practice at SMK, especially at SMKN 6 Padang. The gap found is that there is still a lack of optimal utilization of facilities in the workshop which has an impact on student learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the effect of culinary learning facilities available in the workshop on the learning outcomes of Culinary XI class students of SMKN 6 Padang. This research is a quantitative study with a simple linear regression approach. The research was conducted at SMK Negeri 6 Padang on grade XI students of the Culinary expertise program, after the author conducted a proposal seminar. The population in this study were all students of class XI Culinary totaling 101 people. The sampling technique used is probability sampling, which is a sampling technique that provides an equal opportunity for each member of the population to be selected as a sample. The number of samples in this study was determined using the Yamane formula (Sugiyono, 2019: 158), and rounded up to 50 respondents. Based on the results of research on the effect of learning facilities in the workshop on the learning outcomes of Culinary class XI students of SMKN 6 Padang, it can be concluded that learning facilities have an important role in supporting the success of practical learning.

Abstract

Implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Vocational High Schools (SMKs) in West Sumatra faces various challenges influenced by geographical conditions, human resource readiness, and the characteristics of the business and industrial sectors (DUDI). This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in SMKs through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to identify patterns of success, challenges, and strategic recommendations for the development of vocational education. The study employed an SLR method referring to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The selection process was conducted on articles published between 2023 and 2026 through Google Scholar, Garuda, and university repositories in West Sumatra. Of the 115 articles identified, 20 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed thematically. The results of the review revealed four main findings, namely: (1) the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum is strongly influenced by school principal leadership, teacher competence, and learning communities; (2) partnerships with the business and industrial sectors (DUDI) through Teaching Factory (TEFA) and Field Work Practice (PKL) improve students’ work readiness, but remain uneven due to limitations in local industries; (3) the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) based on Minangkabau local wisdom can strengthen character development, although its assessment remains subjective; and (4) disparities in infrastructure, technology access, and implementation quality between urban areas and remote regions persist. This study concludes that the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in SMKs is determined not only by the internal readiness of schools but is also influenced by infrastructure support, industry partnerships, and government policies that are adaptive to regional characteristics. Therefore, more targeted policies are needed to reduce implementation disparities and improve the quality of vocational education in West Sumatra.
