Abstract

The purposes of study was aimed to investigate the work ethics, motivations and innovative attitudes and its correlation with income of buffalo farmers in West Manggarai Regency. The surveys was conducted in December 2009until February 2010, involving 103 respondents chosen based on certain criteria. The relationships between work ethics, motivations and innovative attitude with the farmers income was analyzed using the chi-square, they are foundto have a significant correlation, and then continued by Phi test. The results showed that buffalo farmers in Lembor Subdistrict, West Manggarai regency, had a high working ethics, farming motivations and a positive innovativeattitude. The work ethics and innovative attitudes were not related to the income of buffalo farmers. The Breeding motivations had significantly correlated to income of buffalo breeder’s (X2count 14.934 > 3.84 X2table), meaning that thehigher breeding motivations, would bring effect to a higher income. The relationship between the variable of breeding motivations and the breeder’s income shows a medium (Phi coefficient = 0.381). The average income of respondents per livestock unit was Rp. 756,944 ± 221,542/year, while the average contribution from buffalo breeding activities for the household income, was 31.2%. This research implicated, that work ethics, and innovative attitudes, cannot be used to predict the farmers income, while breeding motivations, plays the role as a variable reliable to predict the farmers income.(Key words: Work ethics, Motivations, Innovative attitudes, Farmers income, Buffalo)

Abstract

Prediksi konsumsi daging broiler tahun 2015 mencapai 428.463 kg.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the relationship between farmer characteristics including age, education level, farming experience, side income, number of dependent family member, and farmer's business scale with the motivation of goat milking in Girikerto Village, Turi District, Sleman Regency. The type of this research was quantitative explanatory, that was the type of research explaining the nature of the relationship and examining the relationship between farmer characteristics with milking motivation. The research method used a household survey of farmers with the help of questionnaires. The number of respondent’s sample used was 56 goat farmers with provisions using the Slovin formula. Sampling technique used Simple Random Sampling. Data were analyzed by Product Moment correlation. The results showed that the variables of age, farming experience, and business scale had a significant relationship with the motivation of goat milking, while the variables of education, side job and a number of dependents had no significant relationship with the motivation of milking. Farmer’s motivation to milk goats could be increased in line with increasing the age and experience of farmers. The motivation of milking goats could also be increased by increasing the number of livestock ownership, especially the ownership of lactating goats.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the level of sensitivity of the indicator for the sustainability of the Moa Buffalo development based on the results of the identification and measurement of the index with a multidimensional approach on ecological, socio-cultural, and economic dimensions. The unit of analysis in this study, which was conducted on Moa Island, Maluku Province, was 261 farmer households and 16 experts who were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data collection method: literature study, Focus Group Discussion, in-depth interview, survey, measurement. The research variable is the development potential of the Moa Buffalo from 3 dimensions of sustainable Moa Buffalo development (ecology, socio-culture, economy), including 40 indicators. Data analysis using ordination technique Rap-BANGKER through the Multi-Dimensional Scaling (MDS) method to measure the index and status of sustainability and Leverage Analysis, to determine the key factors, Monte Carlo Analysis to assess the effect of errors on the estimated value of ordination for the development of the Moa Buffalo. The results showed that the average value of the Moa buffalo development index was 52.72% (sustainable). The ecological dimension is 41.15% (less sustainable) with 7 sensitive indicators, socio-cultural dimension is 60.28% (sustainable) with 5 sensitive indicators, economic dimension is 56.73% (sustainable) with 3 sensitive indicators. The Monte Carlo analysis of the three dimensions shows the value of the sustainability index at the confidence level of 95%, the difference in value is <1, the coefficient of determination (R2) for the third dimension is 95.00%. The MDS Rap-BANGKER analysis model is adequate to estimate the sustainability of the development of Moa Buffalo, has a high level of confidence, can be used as an evaluation tool to rapid appraisal sustainability analysis of buffalo development in an area.
