Abstract

Foam glass can be produced using cullet and fly ash with addition of dolomite as foaming agent. The aim of this research is to study the influence of adding compositon of glass powder and dolomite on the characterize of the foam glasses and to determine the best composition of the obtained foam glass. Firstly, cullets were milled using crusher. The fly ashwere calcined at 600ºC for 4 hours. Subsequently fly ash, glass powder and dolomite were sieved using 100 mesh sieve. Furthermore, 50 %wt of fly ash, (60, 55, 50, 45, 40, 35) %wt of glass powder and 8 %wt of dolomite were mixed in 32 %wt NaOH solution until formed a slurry. The slurry was stirred for 30 minutes. Slurry was dried in oven at 105ºC for 12 hoursuntil formed the dried green bodies. Green bodies was sintered at 900ºC for 30 minutes. The results show that the glass powder addition of 35-45 %wt obtained an increase in the bulkdensity and compressive strength of the foam glass. The best microstructures of pores can be obtained by adding 45 %wt glass powder and 8 %wt dolomite with bulk density dancompressive strength values of 1.041 gr/cm3; 2.877 MPa.Keywords : compressive strength, dolomite, foam glass, glass powder, palm oil fly ash

Abstract

Utilization of hydroxyapatite (HA) as a bone implant could be done by making the HA in the form of a scaffold to obtain good porosity and good mechanical strength. The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of solid loading HA toward characters of scaffold HA fabricated by polymeric sponge method. Gambas sponges were cut into circular samples of 1 cm diameter and then soaked with distilled water for 12 hours and then dried in the open air for 1 hour. Gambas sponges were then impregnated with a slurry made by mixing 10; 11; and 12 grams of HA, 10% sago, 3% Darvan 821A and 12 grams of distilled water. The mixture were stirred for 20 hours to form a slurry. The substrates were impregnated and then dried at 110oC for 3 hours. The resulting green bodies then burned at 600oC for 1 hour and followed by sintering at 1250oC for 1 hour. The results showed that the addition of HA lead to smaller shrinkage and porosity. In addition of HA, the resulting shrinkage in the range of 57,71-59,46%, porosity 52,30-56,37%, and compressive strength 5,14-7,88 MPa.Keywords: hydroxyapatite, luffa cylindrica, polymeric sponge, scaffold

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite is a ceramic material that used in biomedic especially for bone and tooth implant. Hydroxyapatite can be synthesized by precipitation method. The aims of this research is determining reaction kinetic of hydroxyapatite synthesis by precipitation method with variables of temperature and stirring rate. The research was started by dissolving 8,27 grams of CaO in 200 mL of aquadest. Subsequently the dissolution was titrated with phosphoric acid 1,8 M while heated with temperature variation of 40°C, 50°C and 60°C, also stirring rate of 100 rpm, 200 rpm and 300 rpm. Samples were taken in every 20 minutes by 20 mL and aging for 24 hours in freezer. Then sample was filtered by using filter paper, and the filtrate was analyzed by complexometric titration technique. The result shows that the reaction kinetic follows pseudo second order equation and constants of reaction rate increases with increasing temperature following equation of k = 66, 88e- (25819,13 / RT), k = 10,64e- (18812,92 / RT) and k = 167,80e- (24824,77 / RT) for stirring rate of 100 rpm, 200 rpm, and 300 rpm. Constants of reaction rate at 100 rpm is 0,0056 min-1 and increases to 0,0222 min-1 when the stirring speed increased to 300 rpm at 60°C.Key words : ceramic, hydroxyapatite, reaction kinetic, precipitation

Abstract

Fly ash (reducted particle size)/carbon black (CB) have been used as the main fillers that increase the quality of rubbers. As each filler possesses its own advantages, the use of fly ash (reducted particle size)/CB blends should enhance the mechanical properties of natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates. This research investigated the effect of blend ratio filler fly ash (reducted particle size)/carbon black and mixing temperature on morphology and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP)/NR composite. Variation of blend ratio fly ash (reducted particle size)/CB at 0/100, 30/70, 50/50, 70/30 and 100/0 were studied in order to determine the optimum fly ash (reducted particle size)/CB ratio that giving rise to the optimum properties. The rubber compound has been made by two roll mill at ambient temperature and 20 rpm rotor speed. Dynamic vulcanization was done on internal mixer at various mixing temperature 175 oC, 180 oC , and 185 oC. Rotor speed on internal mixer at 60 rpm. The mechanical properties was done by Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and the morphology was examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The optimum result was found at fly ash (reducted particle size /CB ratio filler 30/70 and the optimum temperature was 175oC. The best mechanical properties was given on tensile strength 2,4 MPa, elongation at break 14,9 % and modulus elastic 71,6 MPa.Keywords: carbon black, fly ash, maleated natural rubber, natural rubber, polypropylene

Abstract

The globally encountered energy crisis can be solved by utilizing sunlight as an alternative energy source. Sun energy can be harnessed through application on solar cell. Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) is a type of solar cell which utilizes dye as light-harvester and also assensitizer. This research aims to investigate the usage of malabar melastome (Melastoma malabathricum) as dye material and to observe the impact of ethanol solvent’s dilution and coating thickness of TiO2 on the DSSC’s performance. To fabricate the DSSC, material preparation and dye extraction was done by dissolving fruit of malabar melastome in amixture of 40 ml ethanol, 8 ml acetic acid, and 52 ml aquadest. The making of TiO2 paste was done by mixing 5 g of TiO2 with 40 ml solvent and deposited using spin coating method. Themaking of electrolyte was done by dissolving 0,127 g of iodine in 0,5 M of KI solvent. The counter-electrode was made and the DSSC was assembled. The DSSC’s voltage was thenexamined using multitester and analyzed using SEM, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, and adhesion test. The higher ethanol fraction in the solvent and the thicker the coating of TiO2,the better voltage resulted. This fact is supported by the morphology and adhesivity test. It can be proved from the highest voltage that is obtained from the sample with 100% ethanol fraction and the thickness of 240 μm which is 659 mV/cm2 under the illumination of LEDlight and 1806,7 mV/cm2 when applied on direct sunlight.Keywords: DSSC, photovoltaic, malabar melastome, spin coating, TiO2

Abstract

Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) is a solar cell unit that work based on electrochemical principle which convert the sun radiation into electricity. DSSC uses TiO2 semiconductor material for coating with spin coating method. The purpose of this research is to make a DSSC prototype using of Malabar melastome fruit (Melastoma Malabathricum L.) as dye and also to observe the impact of water’s volume and soaking duration of TiO2 coating on the produced voltage. The DSSC is constructed with a layering system (sandwich) which consists of working electrode and counter electrode. The working electrode is made by using FTO glass (2.5 x 2.5 cm2) which is coated with TiO2 paste that made by mixing 0.5 gram TiO2 powder in 4 ml ethan ol (1:8). The electrode is sintered under temperature in 350oC for 15 minutes and then soaked in dye liquid with volume of solvent fraction in dye dilution which are ; without dilution (100%); diluted once (50%); and diluted twice (25%) for about 10 minutes, 2 hours and 24 hours. This electrode is then given two droplets of 0.05 M electrolyte. After that the counter electrode is made by using FTO glass coated with carbon from candle’s fire. The fabrication of DSSC is done by sticking both of the FTO glasses up. Melastome Malabar extract as dye is shown to contain anthocyanin, proven with a maximum wavelength of 515 nm. DSSC prototype generated by variation of 24 hours dye soaking duration and without dilution (100%) gave the highest voltage with the solar energy-to-electricity conversion of 1.026 volt/cm2 and when illuminated with LED lamp gave 0.595 volt/cm2. The morphology of TiO2 layer show a porous surface that is conducive to the absorption of dye. Abstract

Synthesis of hydroxyapatite from sea shells has been successfully done by the low temperature hydrothermal method. The purpose of research is to determine the effect oftemperature calcination and holding time on the hydroxyapatite properties. Firstly, sea shells were calcined at 1000°C for 24 hours for producing CaO. And then 55.63 grams of (NH4)2HPO4 was dissolved in 600 mL of distilled water and then 45.91 grams of CaO added into the solution until formed a slurry. Subsequently, the slurry was dried in an oven at 120°C for 15 hours. The drued slurry was crashed and calcined at temperature of 700°C, 800°C, 900°C, 1000°C and holding time of 0.5 hours, 1 hour, 1.5 hours and 2 hours. The results showed that the diameter of the crystal at the temperature calcinationof 700°C is 52.87 nm, while the diameter of the crystal at temperature of 800°C is 52.17 nm. The diameter of the crystal at temperature of 900°C and 1000°C are 51.32 and 50.09nm respectively. Functional groups of PO4 3- and OH are detected in the obtained hydroxyapatite.Keywords: Hydroxyapatite, Hydrothermal, Sea Shells and Crystal Diameter

Abstract

One of the heavy metals can pollute the water is metal ion of Pb2+. Concentration of ions Pb2+ can be removed by adsorption method. The purposes of tihis research are to observe the effect of temperature and adsorbent dosage on the adsorption of metal ion Pb2+ using tricalcium phosphate (TCP) adsorben and determine a suitable adsorption kinetic model. Five hundred mililiter Pb2+ solution with of 3mg/L were added 0,5 gr, 1 gr and 1,5 gr of TCP in a glass beaker and stirred with rate of 300 rpm at a temperature of 30 oC. Pb solution was taken at a certain time, the solution centrifuged and supernatant analyzed by AAS. The result Showed that rate of adsorption increased with temperature and adsorbent dosage. Minimum constant value of adsorption kinetic of adsorption kinetic was 1,720 g/mg.min obtained at temperature 30oC and adsorbent dosage 0,5 gr. Where as maximun value adsorption kinetic constant 8,479 g/mg.min obtained at temperature 30oC adsorbent dosage 1,5 gr. Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out how the school role in the effort of empowering society in the early childhood education environment. The approach of this research used a qualitative research method, the data obtained were then analyzed qualitatively, which the scope of the research was at TK PAUD Lab-school Jember. Based on the results of the study found that: (1) the School role in the effort of empowering society in early childhood education Lab-school environment is by carrying out good communication, this role can be done by several related parties; including teachers and school principals, school committees, and the community in the school environment. Their roles that shall do: (a) Teachers and school principals; provide decisions or policies, stimulation to students’ guardians and support. (b) The school committees and classroom teacher; coordinate, cooperate, and carry out a joint decision. (c) Local community; participate and give support in every activity. (2) Some of the obstacle factors in empowering the community in the PAUD Lab School include: (a) The school itself; limited facilities and infrastructure, (b) The school environment: The economic condition, the student-parent activities, and lots of activities competition in larger communities. Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana peran sekolah dalam upaya pemberdayaan masyarakat di lingkungan PAUD. Pendekatan penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis secara kualitatif yang ruang lingkup penelitiannya di TK PAUD Lab-sekolah Jember. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa: (1) Peran sekolah dalam upaya pemberdayaan masyarakat PAUD di lingkungan sekolah Lab-sekolah adalah dengan melaksanakan komunikasi yang baik, peran tersebut dapat dilakukan oleh beberapa pihak terkait; termasuk guru dan kepala sekolah, komite sekolah, dan masyarakat di lingkungan sekolah. Peran mereka yang harus: (a) Guru dan kepala sekolah; memberikan keputusan atau kebijakan, stimulasi kepada wali dan dukungan siswa. (b) Komite sekolah dan guru kelas; berkoordinasi, bekerja sama, dan melaksanakan keputusan bersama. (c) Komunitas lokal; berpartisipasi dan memberikan dukungan dalam setiap kegiatan. (2) Beberapa faktor penghambat pemberdayaan masyarakat di Sekolah Lab PAUD antara lain: (a) Sekolah itu sendiri; Terbatasnya sarana dan prasarana, (b) Lingkungan sekolah: Kondisi ekonomi, kegiatan orang tua murid, dan banyaknya persaingan kegiatan di masyarakat yang lebih luas.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on work stress and to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on work stress through self-confidence. This research was conducted at PT. Orange Indonesia Mandiri Medan by selecting 55 employees as respondents. Furthermore, data collection used a questionnaire with path analysis in proving the research hypothesis. The results showed that emotional intelligence had no positive and significant effect on work stress and emotional intelligence had no positive and significant effect on work stress through self-confidence. This means that when emotional intelligence and self-confidence are getting better, it will reduce employee work stress.
