Abstract

The research was aim to know pedagogic competence teachers’ and factors relating to the competence of teachers. The population in this study are all biology teachers at 20 schools. The research sample as many as 34 teachers of biology. Data was collected by observation sheet, assessment lesson plan sheet, teacher questionnaire and data analyze were qualitative descriptive.The result revealed teacher pedagogic competence in arrange lesson plan was 11 persons (32.35%) categorized very good, 23 persons (67,65%) is good and the total average value 80,32 is good. Learning performance was 14 persons (41,18%) categorized very good and 20 persons (58,82%) is good and the total average value 80,68 is good.Factors that influence the pedagogical competence of teachers is level education background with compile lesson plan was 0.037, frequency certification acceptance was 0.025. An frequency activity of MGMP with learning performance was 0.012.

Abstract

This study aims to determine; (1) The number of students who completed the material Biotechnology; (2) Analyze the indicator most elusive . This research is descriptive qualitative, the population of the research students of SMP Negeri 5 in the city Padangsidimpuan, representing 11 SMP is in the City Padangsidimpuan. Namely SMP Negeri 2 Padangsidimpuan, SMP Negeri 4 Padangsidimpuan, SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan, SMP Negeri 9 Padangsidimpuan, SMP Negeri 10 Padangsidimpuan. Based on the results of tests mastery of biotechnology research shows that as many as 151 students who completed (45.62%) of the total 331 students and 180 students were not completed (54.38%). Based on the sub material having difficulty in tissue culture material (43.73%), media hydroponics and aeroponics (39.15%), recombination (32.05%), food biotechnology products (27.04%), and the impact of biotechnology by (23.09%). Meanwhile, based on indicators that have trouble distinguishing conventional food biotechnology products and modern (18.91%), identifying the benefits of biotechnology (30.25%), giving a few examples of the manufacture of food and beverages with the use of conventional biotechnology (30.49%), making simple food biotechnology products that can be used in everyday life (29.16%), sort the steps of making a tissue culture (13.92%), identify the process and the advantages and disadvantages of undertaking a tissue culture (51.67%), identified process and the advantages and disadvantages do hydroponics (44.27%), describe how to grow crops with aeroponic media (35.31%), identifying the gene recombination products with new properties that we want (32.03%), and identifies the impact of biotechnology (22.03%).

Abstract

Manggis adalah salah satu buah asli Indonesia yang memiliki potensiekspor sangat besar, namun pertumbuhan tanaman ini sangat lambat. Alternatifuntuk meningkaikan pertumbuhannya yaitu melalui teknik kultur jaringan denganmemanjaatkan zat pengatur tumbuh (ZPT) Benzyl Adenine (BA). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: 1) Pengaruh konsentrasi ZPT BA terhadappertumbuhan tunas manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) in vitro, 2) Pengaruhukuran eksplan terhadap pertumbuhan tunas manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) invitro, 3) Pengaruh interaksi ZPT BA dan ukuran eksplan terhadap pertumbuhan tunas manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) in vitro. Bahan penelitian yangdigunakan adalah biji manggis dari lapang. Rancangan penelitian ini adalahRancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) Jaktorial dengan dua Jaktor perlakuan yaitu DosisZPT BA terdiri dari 4 taraf perlakuan, ukuran eksplan terdiri dari 3 tarafperlakuan, sehingga ada 12 kombinasi perlakuan. Eksplan biji disterilisasi dan ditumbuhkan dalam media MS dengan beberapa dosis ZPT BA (0 ppm, 2 ppm, 4 ppm, 6 ppm), dengan 3 ukuran eksplan (utuh, 1 cm, 2 cm). Parameter pengamatanpenelitian ini adalah 1) Waktu munculnya tunas, 2) Jumlah tunas, 3) Jumlah daun,4) Tinggi tanaman. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial denganANA VA RAL Jaktorial. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistik, perlakuan konsenirasi BA(Benzyladenin) dan ukuran eksplan tidak memberkan pengaruh yang nyataterhadap periumbuhan manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) secara in vitro, padawaktu munculnya tunas, jumlah daun, tinggi tanaman dan juga jumlah tunas(interaksi AB), namun berdasarkan analisis statistic deskriptif, pertumbuhan tunaspada jumlah tunas umur 12 MST, Jaktor A (konsentrasi BA ) memberikanpengaruh terhadap jumlah tunas. Periumbuhan tunas yang paling cepat pada umur 3 MST pada perlakuan konsentrasi 4 ppm dengan ukuran eksplan 2 cm, jumlahtunas paling tinggi dicapai dengan rata - rata 5,99 (4 ppm ukuran 2 cm), jumlahdaun paling tinggi dicapai dengan rata - rata 6,53 ( 4 ppm ukuran utuh) danjumlah daun paling banyak 9 helai (4 ppm ukuran 2 ), sedangkan tinggi tanaman tertinggi dicapai pada perlakuan ( 4 ppm ukuran utuh) yaitu rata - rata 6,29.

Abstract

Nanas (Ananas comosus L.) pada mulanya hanya diketahuisebagai tanaman pekarangan, sekarang penanamannya sudahmenjadi tanaman perkebunan. Nanas merupakan tanaman yangperlu dikembangkan dalam skala perkebunan karena buahnyabernilai ekonomi, permintaan pasar, komoditi buah ekspor ketigadidunia setelah Negara Filipina dan Thailand. Komoditi nanastelah lama dibudidayakan di Indonesia, memiliki potensi eksporsangat besar, dapat dikembangkan sebagai buah segar maupununtuk diversifikasi olahan dengan bahan dasar, namunketersediaan tanaman ini masih kurang. Satu alternatif untukmeningkatkan pertumbuhan nanas yaitu dengan menerapkantehnik kultur jaringan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untukmengetahui 1) Pengaruh pemberian dosis Zat Pengatur Tumbuh(ZPT) Sitokinin (BAP) terhadap pertumbuhan nanas (Ananascomosus L.) in vitro, 2) Pengaruh pemberian dosis ZPT Auksin(IAA) terhadap pertumbuhan nanas (Ananas comosus L.) in vitro, 3)Pengaruh interaksi ZPT auksin (IAA) dan sitokinin (BAP)terhadap pertumbuhan nanas (Ananas comosus L.) in vitro.Rancangan penelitian ini adalah factorial complete random design(CRD) dengan perlakuan yaitu 1). Dosis ZPT BAP terdiri dari 4taraf perlakuan yaitu, 0 ppm, 2 ppm, 4 ppm dan 6 ppm dan 2)Dosis ZPT IAA yang terdiri dari 3 taraf perlakuan yaitu 0 ppm, 0,5ppm, 1 ppm. Parameter pengamatan penelitian ini adalah datapertumbuhan yang diambil pada minggu ke 14 sesudahpenanaman, yaitu 1) Jumlah tunas, 2) Jumlah daun, 3) Jumlah akar.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 1) ZPT Sitokinin, auksin tidakberpengaruh terhadap jumlah tunas, interaksi keduanya mempengaruhi jumlah tunas. 2) ZPT Sitokinin, auksin berpengaruh terhadap jumlah daun, interaksi keduanya tidakmempengaruhi jumlah daun. 3). ZPT Sitokinin berpengaruhterhadap jumlah akar, Auksin dan interaksi keduanya tidakmempengaruhi jumlah akar. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi sitokininyang diberikan akan semakin menurunkan jumlah akar yangterbentuk.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the level of feasibility and effectiveness of science process skill instruments in contextual inquiry at microbiology courses in Biology Education Program of Universitas Negeri Medan (Unimed). The r development esearchthrough the stages Analysis, Define, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE). The draft of science process skill instrument is validated by 2 microbiology material experts, 2 design learning experts, 2 evaluation experts, and 2 linguists. Individual trials were conducted on 3 students of biology education, small group trials were conducted on 9 students, and large group trials were conducted to 21 biology education students who were enrolled in microbiology courses. Data were analyzed using percentage technique and presented in frequency table form. The results of the study found that the development process skill instruments categorized as "feasible" and "effective" were used in microbiology lectures by applying contextual inquiry learning model.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of lectures in the pattern of six task models (routine tasks, critical journal analysis, textbook critical analysis, idea engineering, mini research, and projects) on students' high-order thinking in microbiology lectures. This research was conducted by using exprient method. The research population is 7 classes with a total of 280 students. The sample is determined by cluster random sampling, the class of Dik A uses six task patterns in the contextual learning order as much as 36 people and the class of Dik C with the pattern of six tasks in the direct learning order as many as 35 people. Data were obtained by using pretest and postes in the form of an essay test. The analysis technique used t test at 5% significance level. The result of the research is found that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted t calculated = 7.758 (p = 0.000), it means that pattern of six task model in contextual learning order is more effective used to influence student's high thinking skill in microbiology lecture at Biology Education Program FMIPA Universitas Negeri Medan.

Abstract

This study is aimed to develop a textbook of applied microbiology problem based in material industrial microbiology by standard BNSP. Teaching materials in the form of textbook will be to guide students in carrying out learning activities applied microbiology course. The research was conducted in the Graduate Program of UNIMED in January-May 2014, with the development model Thiagarajan (4-D), which consists of three stages: the first stage of defining which includes: initial preliminary final analysis, analysis of student, material analysis, task analysis and specification of learning objectives. The second stage of the design, which consists of: the selection of media, format selection, and initial planning. The third stage is the development, consisting of a lecturer assessment, validation by experts and the design of instructional materials, limited testing, and the final device. The resulting product is a textbook that will be used by third semester student of Biology Education Graduate Program of UNIMED. Teaching materials compiled into a book Industrial Microbiology problem based considered feasible by the validation team. Results matter expert team showed an average of 90.30 % very viable category, and instructional design experts categorized 83.4%. limited test group by microbiology lecturer gets by 91.30% results very appropriate category and 40 students of fourth semester of Biology Education Graduate Program of UNIMED assessed at 83.39 % of applied microbiology textbook problem-based in material industrial microbiology compiled interesting. Keywords: Development of teaching, materials, applied microbiology, problem-based

Abstract

This study aims to develop the design of contextual inquiry learning model to improve students’ science process skills in microbiology lectures. The design of learning model developed in the form of contextual inquiry learning model. This Research and Development covers three stages of research that are: Needs analysis, Development of contextual inquiry learning model, and Trial of learning design. The research instruments used to collect data consisted of validation sheets by material experts, designers, and linguists, and a description test to measure the skills of the science process. It used descriptive statistics for data analysis. A preliminary study conducted on 40 students attending microbiology lesson indicated the need for microbiology teaching design which applies active learning process based on contextual inquiry. The results of a limited trial of 34 experimental class students and 35 control class students found that the research hypothesis was accepted, which means that contextual inquiry learning model of microbiology enhances students’ process skills higher than conventional method.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan desain model pembelajaran inkuiri kontekstual untuk meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains siswa dalam perkuliahan mikrobiologi. Desain model pembelajaran dikembangkan dalam bentuk model pembelajaran inkuiri kontekstual. Penelitian dan Pengembangan ini mencakup tiga tahap penelitian yaitu: Analisis kebutuhan, Pengembangan model pembelajaran inkuiri kontekstual, dan Ujicoba desain pembelajaran. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data terdiri dari kuesioner kepada ahli materi, ahli desain pembelajaran, dan ahli bahasa, serta tes objektif untuk mengukur keterampilan proses sains. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Studi pendahuluan yang dilakukan pada 40 mahasiswa yang sedang mengikuti perkuliahan mikrobiologi menunjukkan perlunya desain pembelajaran mikrobiologi dengan menerapkan proses pembelajaran aktif berbasiskan inkuiri kontekstual. Hasil uji coba terbatas terhadap 34 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 35 siswa kelas kontrolditemukan bahwa hipotesis penelitian diterima, yang berarti bahwa model pembelajaran inkuiri kontekstual pada perkuliahan mikrobiologi dapat meningkatkan keterampilan proses mahasiswa lebih tinggi daripada model pembelajaran langsung.

Abstract

Zingiber loerzingii Valeton is one of the species in the Zingiberaceae family found throughout Aceh and North Sumatra, Indonesia, with slimy flowers, yellowish white color, and dark orange stamens. Z. loerzingii is endemic in North Sumatra with a very limited distribution. The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources classifies this plant into the vulnerable ones category. This study aims to examine the potential of DNA barcoding from nuclear DNA (ITS2) and DNA chloroplasts (rbcL and trnL-F) to identify Z. loerzingii plants. The research sample was obtained from two main distribution areas of Z. loerzingii in North Sumatra, Indonesia, namely Sibolangit Nature Reserve and Tangkahan Conservation Forest. The results showed that all the DNA barcode markers used were able to classify Z. loerzingii into the same group in the phylogenetic analysis. ITS marker is the most effective marker for classifying Zingiberaceae species compared to rbcL and trnL-F markers. The ITS2 marker has the lowest level of intraspecific and intraspecific genetic distance overlap compared to the rbcL and trnL-F markers. This research is expected to provide information related to the DNA barcode of Z. loerzingii in an effort to conserve this rare plant.

Abstract

Orchid is an ornamental plant commodity that has an important meaning in international trade. Until now, orchids are still the center of attention of farmers and lovers of ornamental plants, because of their bright potential as cut flowers and potted plants. The popular and widespread type of orchid is Cattleya sp. The Cattleya orchid is also called the queen of orchids because of its colorful flowers. Cattleya sp. orchids take a long time to propagate by seed, about 4 to 7 years, so other methods are needed to deal with them. Tissue culture is a method for isolating plant parts such as cells, tissues or organs, and cultivating them in an aseptic environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal interaction of growth regulators indole acetic acid (IAA), benzyl amino purine (BAP), and their interactions with the root induction of Cattleya sp. Cytokinins interact with auxin in determining the direction of cell differentiation. In this research method, differences in concentrations of indole acetic acid (IAA: 0, 2, 4, 6 ppm) and concentrations of benzyl amino purine (BAP: 0, 0, 5, 1 ppm) were carried out. Parameters observed were the number of roots and root length. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using ANOVA. The highest number of roots was obtained in the treatment medium containing 0.5 ppm BAP and 6 ppm IAA, which was 6.33. The highest root length was found in the B0I4 treatment (BAP 0 + IAA 4 ppm). The results of the analysis of the interaction variance between the IAA treatment and the BAP treatment were 0.005, meaning that there was a significant effect of the combination of IAA and BAP on the leaf length of Cattleya sp.
