Abstract

The number of elderly populations in various countries continues to increase along with increasing life expectancy, so it is important to pay special attention to the health of the elderly, including early detection of hypertension. Posyandu volunters have good access to the elderly population because they are actively involved in community health activities. The aim of empowering elderly Posyandu volunters is to increase volunters' knowledge and skills in early detection of hypertension in the elderly. With adequate knowledge, volunters can provide better care and prevent more severe complications. The results of this research were that more than half had poor knowledge about early detection of hypertension before being given training (56%) and most of them had good knowledge about early detection of hypertension after being given training (63%). Empowering elderly Posyandu volunters has significant benefits. Skilled volunters can help increase elderly awareness of the importance of early detection of hypertension. Apart from that, volunters can provide assistance in regular health monitoring so that elderly people can take preventive measures in a timely manner..

Abstract

This paper is focusing on the representation of Grief in the short story of Anatomy of the Aftermath by Karen Jones. Grief is an emotional experience triggered by the loss of something or someone that a person loves, often involving the process of detachment. Then, grief also helps individuals feel closer to the object of love, honor their memories, or fill the void left behind. Karen Jones' flash fiction explores the story of a woman who feels sadness, regret, and longing for her husband's voice after his death. Through qualitative method, this article explores symbols and motifs of the woman's desire to hear her husband's voice and the love that still exists between them despite their separation. Through Kubler Ross’ theory of grief, this paper suggests that if a person can navigate the process well, they can experience normal and healthy grief. In conclusion, it is noted that grief could have two faces of being constructive and destructive. Both aspects are thickly indicated in Jones’ flash fiction.

Abstract

This article describes the senses of revenge and/or justice in Inglourious Basterds, particularly through the characters of Shoshanna Dreyfus, Aldo Raine and the Basterds, and Hans Landa. Universal Pictures released this 2009 film directed by Quentin Tarantino. The writers of this article employ a qualitative method, which allows the reader to learn more about the object's background. These revenge and/or justice scenes describe how revenge and/or justice intertwine in this film. The characters play great actings by indicating that such retaliation is always meaningful, giving inner satisfaction but also contains such justice to the perpetrator. Taking revenge in this film then means as a tool to realize the best way to eliminate the roots of evil that is in line with realizing justice either. In conclusion, the senses of revenge and/or justice in Inglorious Basterds is interpreted flexibly by underlining the characters’ dialogues alongside the ambience of the Nazis’ deeds in World War II.

Abstract

Coffee serves as a vital agricultural product in Madiun Regency, particularly flourishing on the slopes of Mount Wilis in the Kare District. Presently, approximately 55 hectares of land in this region are dedicated to coffee cultivation, primarily managed by a local farmer group. The predominant variety cultivated in Kare is high-quality robusta, which thrives at an elevation of 700 meters above sea level, making it particularly well-suited for this type of coffee. Known locally as Kare coffee or Wilis coffee, this product is distinctive due to its unique flavor profile, which sets it apart from other Indonesian coffees, as it is exclusively sourced from the slopes of Mount Wilis. All coffee sold under this label is cultivated and processed by the Mugi Lestari farmer group, which faces significant competition in the local and national coffee markets, prompting them to seek broader marketing opportunities. However, the increasing demand for coffee necessitates that farmers in Kare Village enhance their skills in production management to ensure that their coffee not only improves their livelihoods but also empowers them economically. The challenges encountered by these farmers include a lack of understanding regarding the significance of effective production management for enhancing product competitiveness and the absence of training or support to bolster their human resource capabilities. Additionally, the low wages and income levels of coffee farmers in Kare Village hinder their ability to address these issues independently, underscoring the need for targeted assistance and training in coffee production management. In response to these challenges, the Community Service Team proposes a comprehensive solution that includes socialization, counseling, and support focused on the effective management of Kare Coffee production

Abstract

The song of Pumped Up Kicks, released by Foster the People in 2010 draws public attention, both because of its melody and dark lyrical theme. This song creates discussions about social isolation, mental health, and violence among teenagers. This paper aims to analyze the song through the qualitative approach and the perspective of social conflicts. By interpreting the lyrics and their deeper implications, this research explores the effects of neglect, bullying, depression, economic disparity, and mental health issues in this song. It highlights how the widening gap between the rich and the poor, along with broken relationships between parents and children, can push youth toward destructive behavior. In conclusion, this analysis suggests that Pumped Up Kicks serves as a powerful social commentary and reminder of the pressing societal issues people face today, emphasizing the urgent need for awareness and intervention.

Abstract

Dengue fever, caused by the dengue virus (DENV), poses a significant public health challenge, particularly in tropical regions. This study aimed to detect flavivirus presence, DENV serotypes, and knockdown-resistance (kdr) mutations in mosquito samples collected from Mengare Island, Gresik, Indonesia. A cross-sectional experimental design was employed, utilizing reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for flavivirus detection and serotyping, as well as for identifying kdr mutations. Ribonucleic acid (RNA) extraction was performed using the Quick-RNA™ Miniprep Plus Kit (Zymo Research, Irvine, CA, USA), followed by RT-PCR with specific primers for DENV serotypes 1–4 and kdr mutations (V1016G and F1534C). Six adult female Aedes albopictus mosquitoes were analyzed in this study. The results revealed no evidence of flavivirus infection or DENV serotypes in the mosquito samples, as no complementary deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) bands corresponding to expected base pair sizes were observed on the agarose gels. Similarly, the analysis of kdr mutations showed that all samples were homozygous wildtype, with no mutations detected at the V1016G or F1534C loci. In conclusion, these findings suggest the absence of active dengue virus transmission or notable insecticide resistance in the studied mosquito population from Mengare Island. This study highlights the importance of continuous monitoring of flavivirus presence and resistance mutations. The variability in kdr mutation frequencies across regions underscores the need for sustained surveillance and effective control measures to mitigate potential outbreaks in high-risk areas such as Mengare Island.
