Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of lectures in the pattern of six task models (routine tasks, critical journal analysis, textbook critical analysis, idea engineering, mini research, and projects) on students' high-order thinking in microbiology lectures. This research was conducted by using exprient method. The research population is 7 classes with a total of 280 students. The sample is determined by cluster random sampling, the class of Dik A uses six task patterns in the contextual learning order as much as 36 people and the class of Dik C with the pattern of six tasks in the direct learning order as many as 35 people. Data were obtained by using pretest and postes in the form of an essay test. The analysis technique used t test at 5% significance level. The result of the research is found that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted t calculated = 7.758 (p = 0.000), it means that pattern of six task model in contextual learning order is more effective used to influence student's high thinking skill in microbiology lecture at Biology Education Program FMIPA Universitas Negeri Medan.

Abstract

This study is aimed to develop a textbook of applied microbiology problem based in material industrial microbiology by standard BNSP. Teaching materials in the form of textbook will be to guide students in carrying out learning activities applied microbiology course. The research was conducted in the Graduate Program of UNIMED in January-May 2014, with the development model Thiagarajan (4-D), which consists of three stages: the first stage of defining which includes: initial preliminary final analysis, analysis of student, material analysis, task analysis and specification of learning objectives. The second stage of the design, which consists of: the selection of media, format selection, and initial planning. The third stage is the development, consisting of a lecturer assessment, validation by experts and the design of instructional materials, limited testing, and the final device. The resulting product is a textbook that will be used by third semester student of Biology Education Graduate Program of UNIMED. Teaching materials compiled into a book Industrial Microbiology problem based considered feasible by the validation team. Results matter expert team showed an average of 90.30 % very viable category, and instructional design experts categorized 83.4%. limited test group by microbiology lecturer gets by 91.30% results very appropriate category and 40 students of fourth semester of Biology Education Graduate Program of UNIMED assessed at 83.39 % of applied microbiology textbook problem-based in material industrial microbiology compiled interesting. Keywords: Development of teaching, materials, applied microbiology, problem-based

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) The expedience degree of Biology interactive learning media based macromedia flash; (2) The responses of SMA Biology MGMP teachers; and (3) The responses of students as to Biology interactive learning media based macromedia flash in the material of Digestive System of Human at class XI SMA/MA. This development study which stages includes are: (1) Collect to information; (2) Planning (preparing benchmark reference test); (3) To develop an early form of product; (4) Validation of expert; (5) Revision; (6) Test final product; and (7) Revision of the eligibility of product. The test subject consists of validator in material experts, language expert, and learning design media experts, and one MGMP teacher with 36 students in MAN 1 Medan on small group trial, four MGMP teachers with 85 students in MAN 1 and MAN 2 Model Medan on middle group trial, and then nine MGMP teachers with 165 students in MAN 1, MAN 2 Model, and MAN 3 Medan on large group trial. Data collected by using a questionnaire. Data analyzed with descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results of this study showed that: (1) The Eligibility material content is in very good criteria (88%); (2) The Language of learning media is in very good criteria (85%); (3) The Media development product is in very good criteria (84%); (4) The responses of one MGMP teacher is in helping criteria (4,1) and 36 students are in very good criteria (82%); (5) The responses of four MGMP teachers are in very helping criteria (4,3) and 85 students are in very good criteria (82%); and (6) The responses of nine MGMP teachers are in very helping criteria (4,7) and 165 students are in very good criteria (84%).Keywords: Macromedia Flash, Digestive System of Human, Questionnaire, Descriptive Quantitative, and Qualitative.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate character education in students with the implementation of a scientific approach based on curriculum 2013 in the field of biological studies. The characters studied are related to honesty, discipline, cooperation, and independence of student. This descriptive study used 146 students at SMAN 1 Tebingtinggi as sample which were determined by random sampling techniques. Data was collected by questionnaire, 7 questions were about honesty, 8 questions were about discipline, 8 questions were questions about collaboration, and 7 questions were about independence. Data was analyzed by percentage technique. The results of the study showed that honest characters was at an average score of 2.73 (sufficient), the character of the discipline was at an average score of 3.11 (good), the character of cooperation was at an average score of 2.73 (enough), and independent characters was at an average score of 2.68 (enough).

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas kelayakan air minum isi ulang pada depot air minum isi ulang di Kecamatan Medan Deli ditinjau dari keberadaan cemaran mikrobiologi Coliform dan Escherichia coli. Terdapat 6 sampel air minum isi ulang dalam penelitian ini. Keenam sampel tersebut diambil dari satu depot masing-masing dari 6 kelurahan di Kecamatan Medan Deli yaitu Kelurahan Kota Bangun, Mabar, Mabar Hilir, Tanjungmulia, Tanjungmulia Hilir dan Titipapan. Sampel diuji  di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Universitas Negeri Medan di Jl. Willem Iskandar, Kabupaten Deliserdang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Perhitungan kelompok bakteri Coliform dan Escherichia coli menggunakan persamaan pada SNI 3554:2015 dengan dua uji yaitu uji sangkaan dan uji konfirmasi. Penentuan jumlah total bakteri Coliform dan Escherichia coli berdasarkan perhitungan per 100 ml sampel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari 6 depot air minum isi ulang yang diuji selama 3 minggu, diketahui bahwa minggu pertama ditemukan 1 depot yang tercemar bakteri Coliform. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan ditemukannya 7 koloni berwarna merah dengan jumlah total koloni terduga bakteri Coliform adalah 6,36/100ml dan dikuatkan dengan uji konfirmasi yang menegaskan bahwa koloni terduga bakteri tersebut adalah positif Coliform. Sedangkan  untuk minggu kedua dan ketiga keseluruhan depot bebas dari cemaran bakterii Coliform dan Escherichia coli sehingga layak untuk dikonsumsi.

Abstract

This research aims to know the STEAM ability of students based on Archaebacteria and Eubacteria based on gender in SMAN 2 Percut Sei Tuan, to find out students' views on learning Archaebacteria and Eubacteria material with a scientific approach. The descriptive method in the study used a population of all students of class X Natural Sciences. The sample consisted of 50 male students and 50 female students by random sampling. Data collection using questionnaires and 10 essay questions. Data were analyzed using percentage techniques and differences in gender ability were performed t-test at a significance level of 5% aided by SPSS 24.0. The results showed the science ability of female students (78.67%)> male students (47.07%), th> tt, p 0.05. The ability of technology in female students (61.33%)> male students (47.00%), -th> -tt p 0.05. Engineering ability of female students (64.29%)> male students (50.00%), th> tt, p 0.05. Arts ability of female students (72.40%)> male students (65.00%), th> tt, p 0.05. Mathematical ability of female students (65.75%)> male students (56.25%), th> tt, p 0.05. There are differences in the STEAM ability of students, female students (70.60%) while male students (53.00%), -th> -tt, p 0.05. The views of female students are more positive than male students in learning Archaebacteria and Eubacteria material with a scientific approach.

Abstract

PENGEMBANGAN LEMBAR KERJA MAHASISWA (LKM) BERBASIS INKUIRI KONTEKSTUAL MATERI MIKROBIOLOGI AIR PADA MAHASISWA PENDIDIKAN BIOLOGI AbstractThe study aims to determine: (1) The results expert material validation of worksheet that has been developed; (2) The results of design experts validation of worksheet that has been developed; (3) Response of lecturer of microbiology subject to worksheet that has been developed; (4) Perception of University of Medan Biology Education students to Worksheet that has been developed; (5) The eligibility of Worksheet for Biology Education students of State University of Medan. This development study uses a modified Borg & Gall model as needed to produce a product of a contextual inquiry-based worksheet. The results of material expert validation to microfinance based worksheet in context of water microbiology materials that have been developed with the feasibility of the contents show 93.75% included in the category of very good; Feasibility of presentation shows 91.44% included in the category of very good; The feasibility of the contextual inquiry component indicates 87.82% in the category of good good; The design validation results show that 89.06% percentage is included in the category of very good; The result of the assessment by the lecturer shows 93.75% is included in the category of very good; Individual tests show  86,66% included in the category of very good; Small group test showed 87.22% included in the category of very good; The test of the restricted group shows 91.12% included in the the category  of very good. Test based on the data the product worksheet based on inquiry of contextual material of water microbiology which have been developed feasible to be used for student as worksheet in Microbiology course.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: (1) Hasil validasi ahli bahan lembar kerja yang telah dikembangkan; (2) Hasil validasi ahli desain lembar kerja yang telah dikembangkan; (3) Tanggapan dosen mata kuliah mikrobiologi terhadap lembar kerja yang telah dikembangkan; (4) Persepsi mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi Universitas Medan terhadap Lembar Kerja yang telah dikembangkan; (5) Kelayakan Lembar Kerja untuk mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi Universitas Negeri Medan. Studi pengembangan ini menggunakan model Borg & Gall yang dimodifikasi sesuai kebutuhan untuk menghasilkan produk dari lembar kerja berbasis inkuiri kontekstual. Hasil validasi ahli materi terhadap LKM berbasis microfinance dalam konteks bahan mikrobiologi air yang telah dikembangkan dengan kelayakan isinya menunjukkan 93,75% termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik; Kelayakan presentasi menunjukkan 91,44% termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik; Kelayakan komponen penyelidikan kontekstual menunjukkan 87,82% dalam kategori barang bagus; Hasil validasi desain menunjukkan bahwa 89,06% termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik; Hasil penilaian oleh dosen menunjukkan 93,75% termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik; Tes individu menunjukkan 86,66% termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik; Uji kelompok kecil menunjukkan 87,22% termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik; Tes kelompok terbatas menunjukkan 91,12% termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik. Uji berdasarkan data lembar kerja produk berdasarkan permintaan bahan kontekstual mikrobiologi air yang telah dikembangkan layak untuk digunakan untuk siswa sebagai lembar kerja di Mikrobiologi saja.

Abstract

This study aims to know the effect of biology teaching materials based on local wisdom integrated character education through problem-based learning models on students' high order thinking skills. This study uses a quantitative approach and belongs to the type of quasi-experimental research. The research design is the one group’s pre-test-post-test design. The research sample consisted of 111 students from five schools in West Aceh. The data collection used a validation sheet of the lesson plan and high-level thinking test questions. Research data was analysed by statistical average values, normality, homogeneity, and paired sample t test. The research results indicated that the using of biology teaching materials based on local wisdom integrated with character education through problem based learning models has a very significant effect on students' high-level thinking (P=0.00). The instruction that used local wisdom, character education and PBL model have a positive role in the motivating of students, cooperation, discipline, fond of reading, student achievement, and problems solving in accordance with the expected learning outcomes.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan perangkat pembelajaran mikrobiologi berbasis kontekstual dalam upaya meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi pada mahasiswa pendidikan biologi Universitas Negeri Medan. Tahapan penelitian tahun pertama melakukan analisis kebutuhan tugas-tugas mahasiswa sejalan dengan implementasi Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia (KKNI). Penelitian dilaksanakan pada tahun 2016. Subyek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa pendidikan biologi berjumlah 80 orang yang diambil secara acak proporsional. Penelitian pengembangan ini berorientasi pada pengembangan produk. Produk yang dihasilkan berupa silabus, kontrak perkuliahan, rencana pelaksanaan perkuliahan, penuntun praktikum, alat evaluasi dan asesmen autentik yang mengarah kepada kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi melalui expert review dari ahli mikrobiologi, ahli disain, ahli teknologi pembelajaran, serta ahli evaluasi dan asesmen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rancangan tugas mahasiswa yang mengarah kepada kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi sesuai standar KKNI pada matakuliah mikrobiologi berbasis kontekstual terdiri dari enam bentuk tugas, yaitu: tugas rutin mahasiswa, analisis kritis buku teks, reviu jurnal, rekayasa ide, riset sederhana, dan tugas proyek.Key Word         : Kontekstual, Berpikir Tingkat Tinggi, Perangkat Tugas Perkuliahan

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of applied-microbiology learning tools in problem-based learning to college students learning outcomes and softskill. Limited test by using one group pretest-posttest design was implemented on biology students in FMIPA UNIMED (State University of Medan) with total of sample 32 peoples. The data were collected by test, questionnaire, and observation sheet which futher analyzed by descriptive statistics. The effectiveness of the learning tools for the acquisition of learning outcomes can be calculated using the percentage technique. The findings of this study revealed about 81.25% students learning outcomes categorized as very high and 18.75% included into high category. The process of formation of college student softskill were effective in improving communication skills, work in groups, initiative, difficult to give up, and able to complete the task perfectly.Keywords: Effectiveness, Applied Microbiology, Learning Outcome, Softskill
