Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using microteaching books based on case method and team based project on basic teaching and communication skills. The type of research is development to produce a product and test the effectiveness of that product. The population is all 5th semester students of the biology education study program, FMIPA Unimed who take the microteaching course, the test sample is 30 students. The research design uses the Plomp development model, namely Analysis, Development, and Evaluation. Data collection is carried out at the analysis stage, then the development stage includes the distribution of assessment sheets to experts and response sheets to lecturers and students in the microteaching course. Meanwhile, the evaluation stage is carried out using observation sheets to assess basic teaching skills and communication skills. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and then categorized following the guidelines for categorizing needs, assessments, responses and communication skills. The results obtained indicate that the microteaching book is declared valid, has a fairly good level of practicality, and is effective in improving basic teaching skills and communication skills

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the diversity of gastropods at Lagundri Beach, South Nias, and to develop and evaluate the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of a booklet as a biology learning resource for senior high school students on the topic of biodiversity. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model (define, design, develop, disseminate). The research subjects consisted of five validators, two teachers, and 31 students. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively through validity, practicality, and effectiveness tests, with effectiveness assessed using normality, homogeneity, t-test, and N-gain analyses. The results showed that the gastropod diversity index was 3.31, which falls into the high category. The developed booklet was classified as highly feasible (average >88%), highly practical (≥91%), and moderately effective, with an N-gain value of 63.13%. The t-test indicated a significant difference between the experimental and control classes (t = 4.80; p < 0.05). Therefore, this booklet based on local potential is suitable for use as a supplementary learning resource to improve students’ conceptual understanding and biodiversity literacy.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pedagogical literacy skills of biology education students after studying lecture material from textbooks on biology teaching and learning strategies that have been developed based on the ADDIE model. This development research used 92 students of the Biology Education Study Program, FMIPA, State University of Medan as subjects, who were determined by random sampling technique. Pedagogic literacy is measured using an essay test to determine the ability of prospective teacher students according to developments in technology and communication. The data were analyzed by percentage technique. The results of the study found that students' pedagogic literacy abilities in preparing themselves for e-learning were included in the good category (82.45%), the use of digital learning in the very good category (91.84%), the learning components involved in online learning is included in the very good category (92.67%), and the use of authentic assessment is included in the good category (84.78%).

Abstract

Abstract Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based teaching materials in the learning and assessment processes of reproductive system material among senior high school students and to identify the challenges experienced by teachers and students during its implementation.Research Methodology: This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach conducted at SMA Negeri 12 Medan, Indonesia. The participants consisted of one biology teacher and 36 students of grade XI. Data were collected through classroom observations, questionnaires distributed via Google Forms, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The teaching materials and digital platforms used in the learning process included animated videos from YouTube and the Quizizz application for assessment activities. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis through data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. Results: The findings revealed that ICT-based teaching materials positively supported biology learning by increasing students’ motivation, engagement, focus, and understanding of abstract reproductive system concepts. Animated videos helped visualize complex biological processes, while Quizizz created interactive and enjoyable assessment activities. However, several challenges were identified, including limited school facilities, inadequate student digital devices, unstable internet connections, and limited teacher creativity in developing innovative digital learning media.Conclusions: ICT-based teaching materials contribute positively to creating more interactive, engaging, and effective biology learning environments in senior high schools.Limitations: This study was limited to one school and used a qualitative descriptive design with a relatively small sample size.Contributions: This study contributes to biology education and digital learning research by providing insights into the implementation of ICT-based teaching materials to support 21st-century learning practices. Keywords: Teaching materials, information and communication technology, reproductive system
