Abstract

This study investigates the pragmatic dimensions of political apologies in the context of public scandals, with particular emphasis on face management strategies and image restoration efforts. Drawing upon Brown, et al. (2023) politeness theory and Benoit’s (2022) image restoration theory, this study analyzes 50 political apologies delivered by politicians from five democratic countries the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, and Australia between 2013 and 2023. Data were collected from official transcripts, video recordings, and media coverage, and were examined through the lens of critical discourse analysis. The findings reveal significant variations in both linguistic and non-linguistic strategies. American politicians tend to emphasize personal responsibility and corrective actions. In the United Kingdom, apologies are more implicit, often centering on expressions of regret. French politicians frequently contextualize wrongdoing within broader socio-political discourses. In Japan, apologies typically involve profound gestures and expressions of shame. Meanwhile, Australian politicians often employ self-deprecating humor to diffuse tension. This study contributes to a cross-cultural understanding of face management in political discourse and highlights the importance of cultural intelligence in global crisis communication. The practical implications include guidelines for crafting culturally sensitive apologies to enhance the effectiveness of image restoration efforts for politicians in the aftermath of scandals.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk, fungsi, dan strategi tindak tutur direktif dalam kolom komentar Kanal Youtube Kemendikdasmen. Metode yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini ialah deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang di dapatkan berupa tuturan-tuturan tertulis yang mengandung tindak tutur direktif berdasarkan teori Prayitno (2011). Sumber data diambil dari kolom komentar Kanal Youtube Kemendikdasmen. Peneliti memperoleh data menggunakan teknik simak, catat, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis melalui beberapa tahapan yaitu pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Penelitian ini menghasilkan data sebanyak 160 data. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan tiga aspek tindak tutur direktif, yaitu bentuk, fungsi, dan strategi. Pada aspek bentuk, diperoleh 101 data yang terdiri atas bentuk perintah sebanyak 2 data, permintaan 68 data, ajakan 12 data, nasihat 2 data, kritikan 3 data, serta larangan 14 data. Selanjutnya, pada aspek fungsi ditemukan 38 data yang mencakup fungsi perintah sebanyak 3 data, fungsi permintaan 14 data, fungsi ajakan 6 data, fungsi nasihat 7 data, fungsi kritikan 4 data, dan fungsi larangan 4 data. Adapun pada aspek strategi ditemukan 21 data yang meliputi strategi langsung sebanyak 8 data, strategi tidak langsung 6 data, strategi literal 4 data, dan strategi tidak literal 3 data.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan guna menjelaskan (1) bentuk campur kode dan alih kode, (2) fungsi campur kode dan alih kode, dan (3) faktor penyebab terjadinya campur kode dan alih kode dalam konten video Youtube Leonardo Edwin tahun 2024-20025. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan data penelitian ini berupa kata, frasa, klausa, juga kalimat mencakup campur kode dan alih kode. Analisis data menggunakan teknik (1) teknik simak, di mana peneliti mengamati dengan teliti ucapan yang ada dalam video, (2) teknik dokumentasi, yang berupa transkripsi video untuk mengubah data yang diucapkan menjadi teks, dan (3) teknik catat, di mana peneliti mencatat bagian-bagian ucapan yang mengandung campur kode dan alih kode. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa; (1) ditemukan bentuk campur kode ke dalam campur kode ke luar, dan campur kode campuran; (2) ditemukan bentuk alih kode berupa alih kode ke dalam dan campur kode keluar (3) ditemukan fungsi campur kode dan alih kode berupa mempertegas pernyataan, mengutip pembicaraan orang lain, dan menghindari bentuk bahasa kasar atau halus; (4) ditemukan faktor penyebab terjadinya campur kode berupa keterbatasan penggunaan kode, penggunaan istilah yang lebih populer, dan hadirnya orang ketiga; (5) ditemukan faktor penyebab alih kode berupa penutur dan pribadi penutur dan kehadiran orang ketiga.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of women's marginalization and the impact of marginalization experienced by the female character in the film Gowok: Kamasutra Jawa by Hanung Bramantyo. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. The data sources consist of dialogues and scenes in the film that represent the marginalization of women. Data collection was carried out using observation and note-taking techniques, while data analysis used content analysis through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that women's marginalization in the film is represented through subordination, stereotypes, violence, and the double burden experienced by the character Ratri. This marginalization is evident through the restriction of women's social space, the imposition of negative stigma, and the placement of women’s bodies as objects for fulfilling men’s interests within the gowok tradition. In addition to affecting social conditions, marginalization also has psychological impacts in the form of trauma, low self-esteem, and identity crisis. Nevertheless, this study finds that women who experience marginalization still have the opportunity to become agents of change if they receive social support and access to education. The film Gowok: Kamasutra Jawa not only represents gender injustice in patriarchal culture but also offers a critique of traditions that normalize marginalization.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the intrinsic elements and personality structure of the characters in the television series Asmara Gen Z, directed by Vemmy Sagita, based on Carl Gustav Jung's analytical psychology theory. The study falls within the scope of literary studies, particularly literary psychology, with a focus on analyzing characters and their personalities through an audiovisual medium. Asmara Gen Z was selected because it represents various psychological and social issues experienced by Generation Z adolescents, including identity exploration, family conflicts, social pressure, and interpersonal relationship dynamics. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data consisting of dialogues, scenes, and characters' behaviors presented throughout the series. Data were collected through observation and note-taking techniques and analyzed by classifying, coding, interpreting, and describing them according to the research categories. Data validity was ensured through methodological and theoretical triangulation. The findings reveal that the intrinsic elements, including theme, plot, setting, and characterization, are closely interconnected in constructing the psychological dynamics of the characters. The identified personality structures consist of consciousness, the personal unconscious, the collective unconscious, the archetypes of persona and shadow, as well as the attitudes of introversion and extraversion. The findings further indicate that introversion and extraversion are the most dominant personality attitudes, while the persona and shadow archetypes most frequently influence the characters' inner conflicts and decision-making processes. These findings suggest that identity exploration, social pressure, and the need for social acceptance constitute the most prominent psychological characteristics of Generation Z as represented in the television series.

Abstract

Abstrak− Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk gaya bahasa dan nilai estetika pada tulisan di bak truk bagian belakang sebagai representasi kreativitas linguistik masyarakat. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi dan dokumentasi berupa foto. Analisis data menerapkan model Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan, sedangkan keabsahan data diuji melalui triangulasi teori. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 15 data yang mencakup gaya bahasa perbandingan (perumpamaan, metafora, antitesis, antisipasi), pertentangan (hiperbola, ironi, satire, paradoks, klimaks, sarkasme), dan perulangan (aliterasi, anafora, epistrofa). Nilai estetika pada tulisan tersebut terwujud dari sudut pandang ekspresi (rima/irama) dan sudut pandang posisi (kedalaman makna/pesan). Simpulan penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa tulisan pada bak truk bukan sekadar hiburan visual bagi pengguna jalan, melainkan sebuah media komunikasi publik yang cerdas, sarana aktualisasi diri, serta refleksi sosial-budaya masyarakat kelas pekerja dalam mengekspresikan pengalaman hidup, identitas, dan kritik sosial secara kreatif

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of hate speech found in the comment section of the Rosi Kompas TV TikTok account, specifically on an uploaded video featuring a debate on mining activities in Raja Ampat directed at Gus Ulil Absor Abdalla, employing a forensic linguistic framework as the analytical lens. This study adopts a qualitative descriptive method, with primary data consisting of 55 user comments collected through documentation techniques. The analysis was conducted by examining linguistic aspects including diction, sentence structure, meaning, and utterance context, while cross-referencing the findings with legal regulations stipulated in the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). The results identified three categories of hate speech, namely insult (32 instances), defamation (13 instances), and ethnicity-, religion-, race-, and intergroup-based hate speech known as SARA (10 instances). Linguistically, these utterances were characterized by the use of pejorative lexicon, negative labeling of individual identity, degrading metaphors, and nonverbal symbols that reinforce the intent to attack. These findings affirm the critical role of forensic linguistic analysis in identifying and substantiating hate speech in the digital sphere as part of law enforcement efforts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze netizens' speech on political meme uploads of Prabowo on the Instagram account @kegobloganunfaedah using a forensic linguistic approach, and examine its implications for the provisions of Article 27 paragraph (3) of the ITE Law regarding insults and defamation. The theoretical basis used focuses on political satire, including irony, sarcasm, humor, criticism, and indirectness in conveying opinions. The research method applied is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through digital observation, listening, and taking notes, 25 selected comment samples were analyzed in depth. The results of the study show that people use various satirical language strategies to express political criticism, but some comments have the potential to violate the law because they contain elements of insults or defamation. This study emphasizes the need for legal awareness in the use of social media, as well as the importance of understanding the limits of freedom of expression to remain legally valid

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the use of the Quantum Teaching learning model on the skills of writing observational report texts of class X students of SMK Negeri 3 Kediri. This study is an experimental study using a pretest-posttest group design, namely a research design involving two class groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. The research population was all class X students of SMK Negeri 3 Kediri in the 2025/2026 academic year. The research sample was taken randomly with a total of 70. The data collection instrument for this study was a performance test in the form of practice writing observational report texts. Data analysis techniques were carried out using normality tests and homogeneity tests, and t-tests. The results showed that the average pretest score of the control class was 56.14, then after being treated with the STAD learning model, the average posttest score increased to 69.97. While the average experimental class score was 56.49, then after being treated with the Quantum Teaching learning model, the average posttest score increased to 83.26. The results of the inferential statistical analysis showed that the t-count value of 11.130 was greater than the t-table of 1.995 at a significance level of 5% and df = 68. In addition, the contribution of the Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 <0.05 was also found, which indicated a significant influence between the use of the Quantum Teaching learning model and the STAD learning model on the skills of writing observational report texts. Thus, the results stated that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected.

Abstract

Political speeches not only function to convey information but also produce certain effects on listeners’ thoughts, attitudes, emotions, and actions through perlocutionary speech acts. This study aimed to describe the forms and functions of perlocutionary speech acts in President Joko Widodo’s speech on the Inauguration of the Mentawir Nursery in Penajam Paser Utara, Kalimantan, which was uploaded through the official Instagram account @jokowi. The study employed a pragmatic approach with a qualitative descriptive design. The research data consisted of utterances containing perlocutionary speech acts in the speech video. Data were collected using the observational method with a note-taking technique and were subsequently analyzed based on the Miles and Huberman model through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was examined through theoretical triangulation. The results showed that the forms of perlocutionary speech acts comprised persuading in 7 instances, raising awareness in 10 instances, mobilizing in 12 instances, influencing in 12 instances, evoking emotions in 9 instances, and motivating in 13 instances. Meanwhile, the functions of perlocutionary speech acts comprised persuading in 15 instances, inviting in 7 instances, influencing in 7 instances, inspiring in 8 instances, and touching emotions in 8 instances. These findings indicate that President Joko Widodo’s speech was used not only to convey information but also to shape the public’s ways of thinking, attitudes, emotions, and tendencies to act through persuasive, communicative, and contextual language. This study contributes to the development of pragmatic studies, particularly to the understanding of the use of perlocutionary speech acts in political communication through social media.
