Abstract

This study concerned with language in written form that is visible as graffiti in the Padang city, Indonesia landscape. The mushroomed of graffiti in Padang city landscapes increasingly has been a growing problem in society. Even local government as the official authority has created some task to prohibit graffiti, but a new graffiti has always been emerging in public space. Therefore graffiti has been considered a crime. It is interesting to explore graffiti in Padang city landscapes from other perspectives, particularly the symbolic functions of graffiti. The study uses qualitative approaches by applying Critical Discourse Analysis. The result shows that graffiti in Padang city landscapes accomplished two principal symbolic functions; first graffiti as a medium of demonstration in which providing space for marginalized expression with the opportunity to voice controversial ideas publically; second graffiti as social critics in which providing input into the public discourse that is not concerned by other conventional media.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to describe processes and domains of vocabulary borrowing, wordcategories, and phonological dynamics in the Loloan Malay language in Bali. The datawere collected through participant observations and were analyzed using the generativephonological theory. The results of the study are as follows. First, the Loloan Malaylanguage borrows Balinese vocabulary through two processes, namely adoption andadaptation. Second, the borrowing of Balinese vocabulary in terms of seven universalcultural elements covers the domains of livelihood system, technology, knowledge system,organization, and arts. Third, the borrowing of Balinese vocabulary in terms of wordcategories occurs in: (a) nouns, pronouns, and numerals; (b) verbs; and (c) adjectives.Fourth, the borrowing of Balinese vocabulary results in the phonological dynamics inthe Loloan Malay language.Keywords: borrowing domains

Abstract

This research is entitled "Vocabulary of Mother Language Variations in Acquiring Toddler Language in Marga Dauh Puri Village, Tabanan Regency: Psycholinguistic Study." The purpose of this study was to find out vocabulary categories, word variations, and factors that influence mastery and acquisition of language variations given his mother to a toddler in Marga Dauh Puri Village, Tabanan Regency. The theory used is the theory of language acquisition proposed by Chaer, the theory of language teaching proposed by Simanjuntak, and the theory of child development proposed by Chaer. To achieve these objectives, several methods and techniques are used. The source of the data for analysis was the family that had a five-year-old child in the Village of Marga Dauh Puri, Tabanan Regency. Furthermore, it was chosen by quota sampling technique. The results of this study are in the form of vocabulary taught by mothers to children including vocabulary categories such as noun categories, verbs, and adjective categories. The use of the dominant language taught is Balinese. Vocabulary variations include repetition and word variations. The dominant vocabulary variation used by mothers is word variation. Factors that influence the mastery and acquisition of vocabulary by children under five, are environmental factors, formal teaching factors, and age factors. The dominant factor influencing the mastery and acquisition of vocabulary by children under five in Marga Dauh Puri Village, Tabanan Regency is an age factor.

Abstract

This research entitled “Indonesian Language Variety of the Army; Psycholinguistic studies”. The way it expess are also in firm, solid, and clear manner. This research is the background of the author to conduct a research on the diversity of languages applied in the military. The aims of this research is to describe and understand the use of language in the military. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative research method, interview techniques, and oral direct communication with students and military teachers. The implication of this study on linguistics knowledge is that on psycholinguistic study, to find out the mentality of a student while studying at Rindam IX/Udayana.

Abstract

This study entitled “Analisis Kohesi Wacana Naratif ‘Mendongeng Lima Menit’ pada Tabloid Tokoh”. The aims of this study are (1) to identify the lexical cohesive device, (2) to identify the grammatical cohesive device, and (3) to identify the cohesiveness degree of a narrative discourse in “Mendongeng Lima Menit” on Tokoh tabloids. The method used in collecting the data in this study is observation method, and then the data were analyzed with descriptive qualitative method, quantitative method, and distributional method. The method used in presenting the data analysis are formal and informal methods. The source of data in this study is taken from the narrative discourse of “Mendongeng Lima Menit” in Tokoh tabloids, which consists of 27 fairytale stories. This study used the theory of cohesion by Halliday & R. Hassan in their book Cohesion in English (1976:4). This study found types of lexical cohesion, grammatical cohesion, and the cohesiveness degree in the narrative discourse “Mendongeng Lima Menit” on the tabloids of Tokoh. The lexical cohesion found were synonym, antonym, repetition, colocation, and equivalency. The grammatical cohesion found were reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction. The cohesiveness degree of the narrative discourse “Mendongeng Lima Menit’ was high, which was 92,7% and they were built by 930 cohesive devices. The grammatical cohesion included the 210 references (22,6%), 44 substitutions (4,7%), 12 ellipsis (1,3%), and 528 conjunctions (56,8%). The lexical cohesion included 6 synonyms (0,64%), 31 antonyms (3,3%), 57 repetitions (6,1%), 36 colocations (3,9%), and 6 equivalencies (0,64%).

Abstract

This Study is analyzed the affixes with source of data, which is the collection poetry of Malu (Aku) Jadi Orang Indonesia by Taufiq Ismail. This research is intended to know the use of words and analyze the use of affixes seen from the form, function, and meaning. The method of data collection that used by researcher was observation method with uninvolved conversation observation technique and writing technique. In analyzing data, the researcher used distributional method with change technique and also analytical method, meanwhile in the presentation of data analysis methods used are formal and informal methods. The result showed that the used of affixes consist of singular word and complex word which is affixes word, repetition word, compound word and also the used of klitik word. The singular word had found consist of 22.717 and the compound word was 5.184. So, on the collection poetry Malu (Aku) Jadi Orang Indonesia by Taufiq Ismail was tend use a singular word. Affixes had found on the collection of poetry was prefix meng-, ke-, ber-, di-, se-, per-, peng-, and ter-; inffixes -el-, -er-, and -em-; suffixes -an, -i, -kan, and -nya; and confict ke-…-an, ber-…-an, per-…-an, peng-…-an, and se-…-nya; and also simulffixes meng-…-kan, di-…-kan, memper-…-kan, diper-…-kan, memper-…-i, meng-…-i, ter-…-kan, per-…-kan.

Abstract

Hate speech is a language phenomenon that often appears on social media nowadays. This was exacerbated by the political intensity between supporting and opposing groups of the government. The commentary column which contains news on the topic of government is one of the ways to spread hate speeches. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the hate speech that appears in the commentary column of an online news media called BABE with the aim of finding the form of lingual markers, the speech act meaning, and the speech act function of the hate speech. The results of this study found that lingual markers in hate speech were divided into three categories, namely words, phrases and utterances. The meaning of hate speech is illocutionary and is classified into seven types of hate speech, including insult, defamation, desecration, unpleasant action, provocation, incitement, and hoax. Meanwhile, the speech act function that appears in hate speech has four speech act functions, namely the assertive function, the directive function, the commissive function, and the expressive function.

Abstract

This article is entitled "The Ineffectiveness of Sentences in Bali Post Readers' Letter for the January - August 2020 Period". The topic selection was based on the ineffective sentence problems found in the Bali Post readers' letters. Ineffective sentences must be avoided so that the process of conveying and receiving information is perfect. The problem is focused on two things. First, the ineffectiveness of the Bali Post sentences for the period January - August 2020. Second, the factors causing the ineffectiveness of the sentence. The theory used is Keraf (1980), Verhaar (1982), Razak (1986), Putrayasa (2010), and Widjono (2012). The method used is descriptive analytic. The data were selected based on purposive sampling technique. The results showed that there were sentence ineffectiveness in the Bali Post 2020 readership letter, such as structural errors, sentence confusion, diction errors, and spelling errors. The ineffectiveness of sentences is caused by several factors, namely the presence of contamination or confusion, pleonasm, ambiguity, ambiguity of sentence elements, redundant prepositions, errors of reasoning, inaccuracy of word forms, inaccurate meanings of words, the influence of foreign languages, and the influence of regional languages.

Abstract

This thesis entitled " Mastery of Lexical on Children in kindergarten and early childhood education at Kori Dharma Tunas school at Denpasar: Psycholinguistics Studies" motivated by the process of acquisition and mastery of objects that shown into children under five years old. This research discussed about two problems; the vocabulary mastered by children under five years old and the factors that affect the lexical mastery by each child. The aims of this study were to determine the vocabulary mastered by children under five years old and also the factors that influence the lexical mastery. This study uses three methods and techniques: methods and data collection techniques, methods and data processing techniques, and methods of data analysis and presentation techniques. Two theories are used on this study the theory of semantic features hypotheses, and theories of child development. This study found that there are two types of words which mastered by the children, namely: nouns and verbs. Children could mention noun words such as strawberries, avocados, oranges, shoes, mosquito, cars, fish, sheep, laying kite, giraffes, wine, and monkey, then for the verb, they could mention walking, reading, swimming, rake and watering. Kid’s lexical development influenced by two factor; age and environmental.

Abstract

This study entitled "Analysis of Sentence Patterns in Student Writing BIPA Faculty of Arts and Culture, University of Udayana. There are three issues that were analyzed in this study, the type of sentence patterns, the type of sentence errors, and obstacles to learning in BIPA Unud sentence. The goal of this research to identify sentence patterns used in writing Unud BIPA student, the type of sentence errors, and constraints in learning Indonesian sentences in BIPA Unud. Data collection methods used in this study, the method see and interviews with technical notes, then the data were analyzed using methods agih with basic techniques. The next presentation of the results of data analysis used formal and informal methods. Source of data used are written in a writing lesson, the student essay BIPA and BIPA interview to the students of the Faculty of Literature and Culture, University of Udayana 2014¬¬ the period September-January 2015. The theory used is a psycholinguistic theory, the theory of raw monitor and grammar language Indonesia, which is the sentence. In the present study found a variety of sentence patterns, which includes a single sentence patterns and pattern compound sentences. In addition, also found some errors sentences include improper use of capital letters, spelling errors, spelling errors uptake and use of punctuation errors. In addition, it is known that the BIPA students of the Faculty of Literature & Culture, University of Udayana experienced problems in learning Indonesian, the constraints in terms of language and non language.
