Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis berbagai kendala yang dihadapi dalam penggunaan media pembelajaran Biologi di SMA Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan serta menemukan alternatif solusi untuk meningkatkan mutu proses pembelajaran. Media pembelajaran berfungsi sebagai sarana penting dalam membantu siswa memahami konsep Biologi yang sering kali bersifat abstrak dan sulit dipahami hanya melalui penjelasan verbal. Namun, kenyataannya, masih banyak hambatan yang ditemui seperti keterbatasan fasilitas laboratorium, kurangnya variasi media yang digunakan, serta rendahnya kemampuan guru dalam mengintegrasikan teknologi ke dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan angket kepada guru serta peserta didik. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas guru masih menerapkan metode tradisional seperti penggunaan papan tulis dan buku teks, sedangkan pemanfaatan media berbasis digital seperti video interaktif dan simulasi virtual masih sangat minim. Penyebab utama permasalahan ini antara lain kurangnya sarana teknologi, minimnya pelatihan bagi guru, dan lemahnya dukungan teknis dari pihak sekolah. Solusi yang disarankan meliputi peningkatan kompetensi guru melalui pelatihan media digital, penyediaan fasilitas pembelajaran berbasis teknologi, serta kerja sama antar pendidik dalam mengembangkan media kreatif. Diharapkan langkah-langkah ini mampu menciptakan suasana belajar Biologi yang lebih menarik, interaktif, dan efektif bagi siswa

Abstract

Research of the diversity macrozoobenthos in Batu Bara Regency is crucial to identify the current condition of coastal ecosystems. This information can provide an overview of water quality, resource sustainability status, and serve as a basis for better planning and management of coastal areas. This research is also expected to serve as a reference for developing strategies to mitigate the negative impacts of human activities on coastal ecosystems, ensuring the balance of ecosystems and the preservation of biodiversity. This research will be analyze diversity and abundance (ind/ha) of macrozoobenthos, ecological index data and physical environmental factors and substrate characteristics. The diversity of macrozoobenthos at Sujono Beach, Sejarah Beach, and Kresek Beach consists of three phyla, six classes, and 28 species. The abundance of macrozoobenthos at Sujono Beach is 2459 ind/m3, at Sejarah Beach is 1525 ind/m3, and at Kresek Beach is 1218 ind/m3. The species richness index, diversity index, and evenness index of macrozoobenthos at all three beaches fall into the moderate category, while in the dominance index, none of the beaches have dominating species. The substrate characteristics at Sujono Beach have a sandy clay texture, while at Sejarah Beach and Kresek Beach, they have a dusty clay texture.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using microteaching books based on case method and team based project on basic teaching and communication skills. The type of research is development to produce a product and test the effectiveness of that product. The population is all 5th semester students of the biology education study program, FMIPA Unimed who take the microteaching course, the test sample is 30 students. The research design uses the Plomp development model, namely Analysis, Development, and Evaluation. Data collection is carried out at the analysis stage, then the development stage includes the distribution of assessment sheets to experts and response sheets to lecturers and students in the microteaching course. Meanwhile, the evaluation stage is carried out using observation sheets to assess basic teaching skills and communication skills. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and then categorized following the guidelines for categorizing needs, assessments, responses and communication skills. The results obtained indicate that the microteaching book is declared valid, has a fairly good level of practicality, and is effective in improving basic teaching skills and communication skills

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in biology learning at SMA Negeri 10 Medan. The background of this study is based on the low level of student engagement in teacher-centered learning, which results in less optimal learning activities. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a biology teacher as the research subject. Data were collected through interviews, indirect observation, and documentation. The results show that the implementation of Project Based Learning is able to increase student activeness in the learning process, especially in discussions, group work, and project presentations. Students also show higher enthusiasm as they are directly involved in contextual and experience-based learning activities. In addition, this model encourages students to be more independent in seeking information and actively construct their own knowledge. However, several challenges were found in its implementation, such as unequal participation in group work and limited learning facilities and media. Despite these obstacles, the implementation of Project Based Learning still has a positive impact in creating a more interactive, collaborative, and student-centered learning environment. Therefore, this model can be considered an effective alternative in improving the quality of the biology learning process.

Abstract

Ecosystem learning in biology is often considered complex due to the interaction of various biotic and abiotic components, which can cause students to experience difficulties in understanding concepts when learning remains theoretical. In addition, 21st century learning demands require students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. Therefore, appropriate learning models and media are needed. This study aims to analyze the use of terrarium media based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) in teaching ecosystem material at SMAS Nur Azizi Tanjung Morawa. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving one biology teacher and 30 tenth grade students. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of PBL supported by terrarium media was effective. Students were actively involved and showed positive responses. The terrarium media helped students understand ecosystem concepts more concretely and increased motivation. However, limitations in media availability and time allocation were still found. Overall, the use of terrarium media based on PBL has a positive impact on students’ learning activities and conceptual understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in teaching cell membrane transport material in grade XI at SMAS Panca Budi Medan. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that PBL was implemented through stages of problem orientation, group discussion, investigation, presentation, and evaluation. This model improved students’ activeness, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. In addition, membrane transport material became easier to understand because it was related to real-life contexts. However, there were obstacles such as limited time and differences in student participation. Overall, the implementation of PBL was effective in improving the quality of biology learning.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low level of student activeness and learning outcomes in the respiratory system topic, caused by teacher-centered learning and limited instructional media. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model through a lung capacity measurement practicum and its impact on student activeness and learning outcomes. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach conducted at Pesantren Darut Thalibin Serdang Bedagai, involving eleventh-grade students and a biology teacher as research subjects. Data were collected through interviews, observations, documentation, as well as pretest and posttest. The results indicate that before the implementation of PjBL, students tended to be passive and had low understanding of the material. After the implementation of PjBL through practicum activities, students became more active, enthusiastic, and engaged in the learning process. In addition, there was an improvement in student learning outcomes as reflected in the comparison between pretest and posttest results. Therefore, the implementation of the PjBL model through lung capacity measurement practicum can enhance student activeness and learning outcomes in the respiratory system topic.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the problems in biology learning based on student activeness, availability of learning facilities, and variation of teaching methods at MAS Al-Washliyah 49 Pasar Lembu. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The research subject was a biology teacher of class X MIPA selected purposively. Data were collected through an online interview conducted via Zoom Meeting on March 12, 2026, using an interview guideline consisting of 30 questions. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that student activeness in learning was not evenly distributed, indicated by the presence of both active and passive students. Learning facilities were available; however, their utilization was not optimal due to limited quantity and access. In addition, the variation of teaching methods was still dominated by the lecture method, although innovative models such as Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Project Based Learning (PjBL) had been applied. These problems impacted students’ conceptual understanding and learning motivation. Therefore, improvements are needed through optimizing learning facilities and implementing more varied and innovative teaching methods.

Abstract

Biology teaching plays a vital role in developing students’ critical and analytical thinking skills, as well as their problem-solving abilities. However, the implementation of innovative teaching models and the use of teaching aids in schools still face various challenges. This study aims to analyse the application of biology teaching models, the use of teaching aids, and the challenges faced by teachers at MAN 1 Medan. This study employs a qualitative approach of a descriptive nature. Data collection was carried out through structured interviews with biology teachers as the main informants, supported by documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, grouping, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, with validity testing using triangulation. The research findings indicate that teachers have implemented various teaching models such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL), inquiry-based learning and group discussions, and have consistently used question-and-answer sessions to assess pupils’ understanding. The teaching aids used include PowerPoint presentations, educational videos, visual aids such as human torsos and skeletons, and mobilebased quizzes. However, the implementation of learning has not been optimal due to limited facilities, low student engagement, differences in ability and motivation to learn, and limited learning time. Teachers have attempted to overcome these constraints through a variety of methods, the provision of motivation, and the use ofbavailable media. Therefore, improvements to facilities and the development of technology-based learning innovations are required to enhance the effectiveness of biology learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) oriented toward Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) supported by digital technology in biology learning at SMAN 17 Medan. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach with a structured interview technique involving a biology teacher as the main informant. Data were collected through interviews focusing on the implementation of PBL, the use of digital technology, the application of HOTS-based learning, and the integration of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) in classroom activities. The results showed that the implementation of PBL began with presenting contextual problems related to students’ daily lives, followed by group discussions, information exploration, and presentation of solutions. The use of digital technology such as Google Classroom, PowerPoint, learning videos, and internet-based resources supported the learning process and helped students understand abstract biological concepts more effectively. The integration of HOTS was reflected in analytical questions, case-based assignments, and collaborative discussions that encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, the integration of TPACK was evident from the teacher’s ability to combine content mastery, appropriate pedagogical strategies, and digital technology use. However, several challenges were found, including limited instructional time, inadequate technological facilities, and differences in students’ digital literacy skills.
