Abstract

Program Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) merupakan suatu bentuk penerapan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang juga menjadi bagian dari implementasi Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. Pada KKN Tematik Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) tahun 2022, Kelompok 49 ditempatkan di Desa Tawang, Kecamatan Weru, Kabupaten Sukoharjo. Hasil survei ditemukan bahwa bahwa kurang adanya inisiatif masyarakat untuk mengolah ulang limbah rumah tangga, salah satunya adalah limbah cangkang telur. Kendala utama yang ditemui adalah kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat terkait bagaimana cara pengolahan limbah cangkang telur menjadi barang yang lebih bermanfaat. Oleh karena itu, diadakan Sosialisasi Pemanfaatan Limbah Cangkang Telur Sebagai Pupuk Organik Cair (POC) Melalui Program KKN Tematik Mahasiswa UNS. Tujuan sosialisasi ini adalah masyarakat Desa Tawang mampu memanfaatkan limbah cangkang telur sebagai bahan dasar POC dan mengurangi penumpukan sampah di lingkungan masyarakat.. Hasil dari pelaksanaan sosialisasi ini adalah masyarakat Desa Tawang dapat mengolah limbah cangkang telur menjadi barang yang dapat digunakan sebagai POC. The Student Study Service (KKN) is a form of implementing community service activities which are also part of the implementation of The Three Pillars of Higher Education. At the Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Thematic Community Service Program in 2022, Group 49 was placed in Tawang Village, Weru District, Sukoharjo Regency. The survey results found that there was a lack of community initiative to recycle household waste, one of which was egg shell waste. The main obstacle encountered was the lack of public knowledge regarding how to process eggshell waste into more useful goods. Therefore, a socialization on the Utilization of Egg Shell Waste as Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) was held through the UNS Student Thematic Community Service Program. The purpose of this socialization is that the people of Tawang Village are able to utilize eggshell waste as a basic ingredient of liquid organic fertilizer and reduce the accumulation of waste in the community. The result of this socialization is that the people of Tawang Village can process eggshell waste into goods that can be used as POC.

Abstract

UD. Sunarso Mebel is a business engaged in the furniture industry with management, including the design stage, material search, sawing, shrinking, sorting, and assembly for the final product of furniture. Production process for mortise and tenon joint on UD. Sunarso Mebel identified problems that could have been more productive. UD. Sunarso Mebel uses conventional tools that are ineffective, efficient, and interfere with worker comfort. Therefore, the fabrication of integrated tenon wood machines is needed, about actual needs and conditions. The stages of this program include the formulation of the design, the tools' manufacturing stage, and the implementation stage. Using this integrated tenon wood machine increases the cutting speed of one wood couple to 10 seconds from the conventional method of 300 seconds. The stage of cutting one break that is needed is only one stage compared to the conventional method, which is three stages. The manufacturing capacity of furniture products has become nine times faster. Thus, these integrated tenon wood machines can increase the productivity of furniture products on UD. Sunarso Mebel. The ergonomics of integrated tenon wood machines are classified as low risk, so it is ready and safe for use.

Abstract

Tegalsari merupakan salah satu desa yang ada di Kecamatan Weru, Kabupaten Sukoharjo. Mayoritas masyarakatnya bermata pencaharian sebagai petani. Selama ini, potensi yang ada di di Desa Tegalsari belum dimanfaatkan dengan maksimal, misalnya pemanfaatan tanaman yang ada di lingkungan sekitar. Kegiatan pelatihan pembuatan ecoprint pada media tote bag ini bertujuan untuk memberikan ilmu, meningkatkan pengetahuan, dan keterampilan ibu-ibu PKK Desa Tegalsari dalam memanfaatkan tanaman di lingkungan sekitar, serta merupakan gerakan yang mendukung pengurangan penggunaan plastik. Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilaksanakan di Balai Desa Tegalsari dengan menerapkan metode ekspositori dan demonstrasi. Pelatihan dilaksanakan dengan teknik focus group discussion, dilanjutkan dengan praktek pembuatan ecoprint pada media tote bag, dan diakhiri dengan evaluasi kegiatan. Partisipasi dan antusiasme ibu-ibu dalam kegiatan pelatihan sangat baik. Pihak pemerintah desa juga turut berkontribusi secara aktif dalam pengadaan keperluan pelatihan dan penyediaan tempat. Hasil dari kegiatan pelatihan ecoprint ini adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan ibu-ibu PKK Desa Tegalsari di bidang ecoprint dan juga mengoptimalkan pemanfaatan tanaman di lingkungan sekitar Desa Tegalsari untuk dijadikan motif ecoprint. Kegiatan pelatihan ecoprint di Desa Tegalsari ini sangat bermanfaat bagi warga desa, khususnya ibu-ibu PKK dan apabila dikelola secara berkelanjutan dapat berkembang menjadi salah satu peluang usaha baru bagi warga Desa Tegalsari.

Abstract

Wind turbines are typically classified as Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWT) or Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT). VAWT has a superior ability to accelerate from rest to rotation than HAWT, allowing it to rotate the rotor even when the wind speed is low; additionally, the produced torque is relatively high. Using the Savonius helix VAWT is one of the numerous methods for enhancing VAWT performance. The effect of the number of blades and the blade twist of the rotor or the angle of rotation of the blades on the rotor from the bottom end to the top end on the speed cut generated by the VAWT Savonius helix was investigated experimentally. Variations in the number of blades used in the study included 2 and 3 blades, as well as 90°, 180°, 270°, and 360° for the rotor twist blades. In a wind tunnel, data was collected at wind speeds ranging from 0 to 5 m/s. The best performance research results were obtained With three blades, a twist angle of 180 degrees, and a cutting speed of 1.51 m/s. By modifying the Savonius Helix VAWT design in this study, it is possible to increase the efficiency and performance of turbines, mainly when used at low wind speeds, and the potential for using wind energy as a more efficient and sustainable alternative energy source.

Abstract

In this article, a kind of green composite was prepared from recycled polypropylene (r-PP) which was further reinforced with various loadings of chemically modified bamboo fibres. Effects of bamboo fibre loading on the mechanical and thermal properties of r-PP/bamboo composites were studied. Those properties were characterized by tensile testing, impact testing, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). Standardized test specimens with 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% mass fractions of bamboo fibre were obtained by an extrusion process which was then finalized on injection molding. The experiment revealed the tensile strength and strain of the composite become greater with the increase of bamboo fraction in the ultimate value of 20% mass fraction. The composite with 10% bamboo fibre loading recorded the highest value of impact strength. Meanwhile, it was evident that the presence of bamboo fibre decreased the thermal stability of recycled polypropylene materials. Therefore, this composite material may find good potential for semi-structural loading applications in relatively low-exposure working.

Abstract

Banana stems are organic waste that contains elements that are beneficial to plants. The management of banana stems can be used as liquid organic fertilizer as an effort to reduce the presence of waste and can be used as fertilizer for plants. On this basis, KKN UNS held a training activity on making POC from banana stem which was attended by 50 members of Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) in Tawang Village. Training on making POC from banana stem aims to utilize unused waste and provide insight and experience for participants in making POC. Training consists of providing material and direct practice in making POC. The results of the manufacturing practice are used for fertilizer for plants in the garden owned by KWT Tawang Village.

Abstract

This community service program aims to create awareness of the plastic pollution challenge by empowering the local communities around Sekolah Alam Solo Raya (SELASAR). The program is part of a problem-based learning approach implemented to support community-based education in SELASAR. SELASAR’s students are expected to educate the communities in sorting the general waste and separating out items that can be recycled. The educational kit of a simple recycling machine will be developed in UNS and then installed in Sekolah Alam Solo Raya for educational purposes. The communities will take an educational tour through plastic recycling, from sorting to final production. The objective of the educational tour is to raise awareness of waste reduction and provide practical tips on how to create a more sustainable environment. It is also expected that students could create well-designed products that have more commercial value.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini ditujukan untuk meningkatkan pembelajaran STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) di sekolah dasar di Kabupaten Klaten melalui konsep engineering design dan eksperimen. STEM diarahkan sebagai pembelajaran terintegrasi antara beberapa bidang ilmu, terutama terkait matematika, sains (fisika, kimia, biologi dan ilmu lingkungan) serta IT (Information Technology). Pembelajaran dilakukan dengan mengenalkan beberapa teknologi yang menggunakan sumber energi angin. Kegiatan engineering design process dilakukan melalui modul dan kegiatan pembelajaran melalui: (1) memahami konteks permasalahan; (2) melakukan eksplorasi mengenai bentuk dan jenis turbin yang mampu menangkap energi angin; dan (3) melakukan eksperimen turbin angin. Modul pembelajaran dibuat tim pengabdi bersama guru. Guru memberikan pendampingan kepada peserta didik selama pelaksanaan kegiatan. Peserta didik didorong untuk menggunakan kemampuan STEM dalam eksperimen turbin angin. Pada akhir kegiatan diharapkan diperoleh luaran berupa modul pembelajaran yang mengintegrasikan pendidikan berbasis lingkungan hidup pada pembelajaran STEM
