Abstract

Background: Early marriage and teenage pregnancy pose serious problems in Indonesia. One in five women worldwide marry before the age of 18, and in Indonesia, approximately 1.22 million teenage girls marry under the age of 18. Low levels of knowledge, education, economic status, and customs greatly encourage early marriage and teenage pregnancy. This highlights the need for effective educational strategies to increase knowledge and awareness among teenagers. This study aims to analyze the effect of using lectures with interactive discussions in educating adolescents about early marriage and teenage pregnancy on their knowledge. Method: This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design method. All grade X students of State Islamic Senior High School 1 Blitar, East Java Indonesia were included in the study population with a sample of 95 students selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected using a 23-question questionnaire related to early marriage and teenage pregnancy. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Result: The results from the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a p value of 0.000 (<0.05) which means there is a significant difference in student knowledge before and after the intervention. The percentage of students with good knowledge category increased from 46% before the intervention to 77% after the intervention. Conclusion: The combination of lecture and interactive discussion methods effectively improved students' understanding of early marriage and teenage pregnancy.

Abstract

Introduction: Nutritional problems among toddlers remain a public health concern in Indonesia, including in Probolinggo City, where inadequate nutritional status and limited monitoring may hinder early intervention. Low attendance at community health posts for toddlers reduces the continuity of growth monitoring. The socioeconomic level of parents is considered one of the factors influencing attendance. Objective: To analyze the relationship between parental socioeconomic status and toddler attendance at community health posts in Kareng Lor, Probolinggo City. Method: This study used an observational analytic design with a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional method. A total of 100 respondents were selected randomly. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test and multivariate logistic regression. Result and Discussion: Parents with lower-middle socioeconomic status were entirely inactive in posyandu visits (100%), those with middle socioeconomic status were mostly active (64.5%), and all parents in the upper socioeconomic group were active (100%). Socioeconomic status showed a significant relationship with posyandu attendance (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis indicated that the father’s occupation (OR = 16.43; p = 0.006) and household asset ownership (OR = 12.47; p = 0.005) were the dominant factors influencing posyandu attendance. Conclusions: Most parents had a middle socioeconomic level, and socioeconomic differences were associated with the activeness of posyandu visits. Father’s occupation and household assets were the key factors linked to higher attendance.

Abstract

Tuberculosis developed differently in each individual. The role of HIV in the disease development is widely known unlike the role of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C infection. Therefore, this study is aimed at to describe the role of those co-infections in the TB development. The study employed observational – case control design with two groups, case and control group. Data collection include TB condition, whether latent or manifest, and history of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C co-infection. The study successfully recruited the total of 32 respondents in each group. At the case group, the number of male and respondent is 19 and 13. Meanwhile, at the control group the number male respondent is 10 and the female respondent is 22. The study found that 20 and 12 respondents were positive Hepatitis B at the case and the control group. Chi-square test resulted significant different between two groups (P=0.0455 and a =0.05) with odd ratio p=0.479. Meanwhile, the study only tested one respondent with positive Hepatitis C at case group and one at control group. Comparison analysis found no significant different between groups (P=1 and a =0.05). This study reveals that TB patients are more likely to have history of Hepatitis B 2.7 times than those at the control group with the same infection but without TB development. Therefore, the possibility of Hepatitis B co-infection has role in the TB manifestation, but not for Hepatitis C co-infection.

Abstract

There have been several studies reporting the effect of hypercholesterolemia on cortical thickness, but it remains a controversy. Some studies suggest that hypercholesterolemia can decrease osteoblast activity and increase osteoclast activity. Meanwhile other studies suggest that hypercholesterolemia is a protective factor of osteoporosis. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a study to determine the effect of hypercholesterolemia on cortical bone thickness. Method: This study used 8 rats (Rattus norvegicus) that were divided into 2 groups, including control group (K0) that was given standard diet and experimental group (K1) that was given high fat diet for 28 days and all were executed to obtain the femur bone. The cortical bone thickness was measured by using Optilab Viewer and Optilab Image Raster software. Result: The data analysis was conducted using independent t-test. A p value of <0.05 is considered significant. The results showed that hypercholesterolemia had significant effect on cortical bone thickness. The average cortical bone thickness in the control group was 146.92 µm whereas in the experimental group was 124.53 µm, the mean difference between the two groups was 22.39 µm. There was a 6% decrease of cortical bone thickness. In conclusion, hypercholesterolemia can decrease cortical bone thickness of wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus).
