Pandemic Covid-19 forced education sector to have no more face-to-face classes since 2020. Unluckily, students from drama classes no longer performed on the stage even though they have well-prepared for the performance. This article highlighted four main problems: 1) How creative were students in writing drama script for virtual drama performance? 2) What were innovative processes created by the students for virtual drama performance? 3) What were the problem faced by the students in writing drama script and performing virtual drama performance? and 4) How were the lecturers’ role for the students in writing drama script and performing virtual drama performance? To answer these questions, the study employed online observation, interview, and documentation to dig up the research questions. The result of the study showed that by using documented-limited creative writing, most of the students were able in creating the drama script collaboratively and they utilized Zoom platform and Canva application through these preliminary investigation, detailed investigation, development, testing and validation, and full production processes. As a whole, the students were creative and innovative during the process of virtual drama performance and it could make the process of teaching and learning are worthwhile because lecturers and students had collaborated very well.

This activity is carried out with the aim of understanding secondary teachers about learning tools that involve mathematical literacy. The methods used are training, discussion, and mentoring. Training and discussions were carried out using zoom for two days, while mentoring was carried out using google classroom for one month. The target of this activity is secondary teachers in Pagaralam City, South Sumatera. Evaluation is carried out by giving assignments to teacher and providing a satisfaction questionnaire for implementation. The results show that teachers are satisfied with the overall implementation of the activity and teachers understand learning tools that involve mathematical literacy, teachers can design tools well and test them out on students.

Abstract. This research aimed to determine the Domestic and Foreign Promotion at the South Sumatra Culture and Tourism Office needs in booklet development based on South Sumatra culinary. The data were obtained through the use of a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The sample of this study was stakeholders’ and staff at South Sumatera Culture and Tourism office. The data were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The needs analysis performed included TSA, deficiency analysis, PSA, and strategy analysis. The result of the need analysis showed that: 1) booklet material was important to support the region’s promotion. 2) developed English culinary booklet is important to help South Sumatra promote well because most of its employees already have an intermediate level of English. 3) Booklets that are remade only once a year with almost the same topic and only updated. 4) Integrating a culinary booklet was needed since there was only a booklet related to South Sumatera in general. 5) Integrating the Traditional Culinary Booklet of South Sumatra could encourage the awareness to learn traditional culinary of South Sumatra. 6) Most readers needed to learn the South Sumatera culinary booklet related to the main course, Dessert and Appetizer. 7) The readers prefer it will be using easy-to-understand language, and there is an explanation for difficult terms. Due to the needs, it was necessary to develop an English booklet by integrating South Sumatra culinary, which can support domestic and foreign promotion at the South Sumatra Culture and Tourism Office.Keywords: English Culinary Booklet, Tourism, Needs Analysis

Developing descriptive reading materials in EFL classes by utilizing the local culture Nur Azizah; Rita Inderawati; Machdalena Vianty

This study aimed to develop instructional descriptive reading materials of Bangka local culture in Indonesia, which are valid, practical and have a potential effect for Tour and Travel Study Program students at a vocational school in Bangka Belitung Province. The developed product would be used as supplementary materials to fulfill the students’ needs. This study used the research design proposed by Akker (1999), covering the phases of analysis, design, evaluation, and revision modified by Tessmer (1993). The data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and a reading comprehension test. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. In order to determine the validity, practicality, and potential effect of the developed product, a formative evaluation was conducted. Validity was evaluated in experts review related to the content, language, and instructional design. The result showed that the developed product reached a very high validity category with the average score of all aspects evaluated; it was 3.57. The practicality evaluated in one-to-one and small group evaluations were categorized as very high practicality since the average scores of both evaluations were 3.71 and 3.58. After trying out the field test, the developed product was considered to have a high potential effect since 73.91% of the students achieved the required passing grade. Therefore, it could be concluded that it is possible to use the developed product as supplementary materials for teaching reading for the intended students.

Developing local culture-based EFL reading materials for the 21st-century learning Yeni Oktarina; Rita Inderawati; Ismail Petrus

The material specification is one aspect of teaching English at a vocational high school. Materials should be well-prepared to facilitate and promote students’ comprehension of concepts. This study aimed to develop instructional reading materials for Palembang – Tourism-Destination that are valid, practical, and potentially effective for students enrolled in a Travel Agent Study Program at one vocational school in Palembang, South Sumatera Province, Indonesia. The product was developed to meet the students’ needs. This research was a developmental study, with research phases including design, evaluation, and revision phases. Questionnaires, interviews, and reading comprehension tests were used to collect data. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. A formative evaluation was conducted to determine the product’s validity, practicality, and potential impact. Experts evaluated the content, media, and instructional design for validity. The results indicated that the established product was extremely valid, scored an average of 3.65 for all evaluated elements. Practicality was rated highly in one-to-one and small-group evaluations, with average scores of 3.55 and 3.35. The results of the field test showed that the established texts had a high potential for impact, as 79.16 percent of students earned the required passing grade. As a result, it is reasonable to assume that the established product can be used in the classroom as the product for reading.

This study aims to address the needs of students in drama and drama performances in the Literature in ELT course. Since the occurrence of a national disaster, namely the spread of the covid-19 virus, the output of the Literature in ELT courses in the form of drama performances cannot be carried out due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The solution offered through this research is to perform virtual drama performances. The data were obtained through the use of a questionnaire. The data were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of the need analysis showed that: 1) Literature in ELT course was important for the students, 2) students’ English proficiency was at the intermediate level, 3) students still had some difficulties in drama performance, 4) the topic was English legend, 5) there was a need of integrating drama with an online application, 6) students still sometimes learn Literature in ELT with technology. Due to the needs, it was necessary to develop virtual drama performance through online application because 55.5% of students thought that it would increase their knowledge and understanding of the topic in learning Literature in ELT course in university. When offering Literature in ELT course online, it can be noted that the necessary adjustments were made to the theater activities and the drama education program, and the Zoom digital platform was mostly utilized in the online classes.

In the Independent curriculum, it is essential to provide students with diverse learning materials that address global concerns like climate change while also aligning with personal and cultural dimensions, such as the Pancasila Student Profile. This study, conducted at Srijaya Negara High School in Palembang, Indonesia, aimed to understand students' needs for virtual drama scripts that incorporate both climate change and the Pancasila Student Profile themes. Insights were gathered from 36 tenth-grade students, their English teachers, and additional stakeholders through a mixed-methods approach, combining questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The results highlighted a demand from students for more specific and contextually relevant materials. The integration of climate change and Pancasila themes in virtual drama scripts was found to enhance students' motivation in English learning, particularly with the inclusion of technology. Furthermore, these tailored scripts are believed to improve students' knowledge and awareness of both climate change and the values of Pancasila. This research paves the way for the development of virtual drama scripts that not only serve as English reading materials but also support broader educational initiatives in high schools.

This study aimed to elaborate on the students’ creativity in responding to literary works, in this case, a poem entitled Beowulf by utilizing visual symbols. The population of this research students from the 4th semester of English education in Sriwijaya University in the academic year 2020/2021 consists of 73 students. The researcher used the purposive sampling method. There were 34 students chosen as samples. The instruments of the research were test and documentation of their Visual Symbol Response which were analyzed by using Rubric for Creativity. The result showed students can appreciate literature using visual symbols. These symbols can help students visualize the words written in literary works so as to form an interesting performance. On the other hand, the students have been able to elaborate on critical thinking and also their creativity. The students were generally not at the degree of "imitative" in any way. The vast majority of students were "creative," but none of them were "very creative." Critical thinking may aid readers in discovering the deeper meaning of a piece of prose or poem, as well as allowing them to see the other side or what lies behind it. The students enjoy their creativity as they have strived to create visual symbols to be interesting videos as the early effort to prepare virtual drama performance. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengelaborasi kreativitas siswa dalam merespon karya sastra, dalam hal ini puisi berjudul Beowulf dengan memanfaatkan simbol-simbol visual. Populasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester 4 pendidikan bahasa Inggris di Universitas Sriwijaya tahun ajaran 2020/2021 berjumlah 73 mahasiswa. Peneliti menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Ada 34 siswa yang dipilih sebagai sampel. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes dan dokumentasi Respon Simbol Visual yang dianalisis menggunakan Rubrik Kreativitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan siswa dapat mengapresiasi karya sastra dengan menggunakan simbol-simbol visual. Simbol-simbol tersebut dapat membantu siswa memvisualisasikan kata-kata yang tertulis dalam karya sastra sehingga membentuk suatu pertunjukan yang menarik. Di sisi lain, siswa telah mampu mengelaborasi pemikiran kritis dan juga kreativitasnya. Para siswa umumnya tidak pada tingkat "meniru" dengan cara apa pun. Sebagian besar siswa adalah "kreatif", tetapi tidak satu pun dari mereka yang "sangat kreatif". Berpikir kritis dapat membantu pembaca dalam menemukan makna yang lebih dalam dari sebuah prosa atau puisi, serta memungkinkan mereka untuk melihat sisi lain atau apa yang ada di baliknya. Para siswa menikmati kreativitas mereka karena mereka telah berusaha untuk membuat simbol visual menjadi video yang menarik sebagai upaya awal untuk mempersiapkan pertunjukan dramavirtual.
