Abstract

Abstract

The introduction of letters to young children is often hindered by learning approaches that lack variety and engaging stimulation. This study aims to examine the effect of using Scrabble as a media game on improving letter recognition skills in children aged 5–6 years at TK Tunas Sejahtera. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 22 children divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data collection techniques included observation, pre-test and post-test assessments, and documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test to measure the treatment’s effect. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s letter recognition ability, with an average post-test score of 22.27 compared to 10.36 in the pre-test. In comparison, the control group only improved from 8.36 to 17.27. Thus, Scrabble media games proved to be more effective. It can be concluded that Scrabble significantly enhances early childhood literacy, particularly in letter recognition. This research contributes to early literacy learning strategies and supports the use of creative educational media in early childhood education settings. The practical implication encourages teachers to integrate play-based learning in daily kindergarten activities.

understanding of children aged 5-6 years in kindergarten in Gowa Regency. This study used purposive sampling method with a sample of 60 children. 30 children from Nurul Fadhilah Kindergarten as the experimental group and 30 children from Pertiwi Tamarunang Kindergarten as the control group. The data analysis method in this research is prerequisite test and independent sample t-test. From the results of the t-test based on the assumption of equal variance, there is a difference in the level of sexual understanding of 5 to 6 year olds in the experimental group that is treated and the control group and not treated. The research hypothesis states that there is an effect of animated videos in stimulating the sexual understanding of children aged 6 to 6 years in kindergarten in Gowa Regency which can be proven from the results of the independent sample t-test. If there is a difference in the average sexual understanding of children in Nurul Fadhilah Kindergarten and Pertiwi Tamarunang Kindergarten, then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the integration of traditional games into teacher training programs as a strategy to enhance school readiness and holistic child development in Pinrang Regency, focusing on early-grade primary school teachers and kindergarten teachers. The research employed a mixed-methods design with a quasi-experimental approach, involving teachers, children, and parents from rural and urban areas. Teacher training sessions introduced culturally responsive, play-based strategies by integrating relevant traditional games. Children's developmental domains, including cognitive, motor, social-emotional, and linguistic, were assessed before and after the intervention. The results revealed significant improvements across all measured domains. Children exhibited better problem-solving abilities, enhanced cooperation, improved language skills, and better motor coordination. Teachers gained confidence in implementing intentional play-based teaching methods, while parents became more engaged in their children's educational experiences. Contextual differences between rural and urban areas underscored the adaptability of this approach to diverse environments. Cultural responsiveness emerged as a critical factor in fostering inclusivity and meaningful learning engagement. This study demonstrates that integrating traditional games into teacher training can positively impact school readiness. Culturally responsive, play-based methodologies enrich educational experiences and serve as a guide for future research, policy development, and educational practice.

Abstract

Recognizing number symbols in early childhood is challenging because their abstract nature does not align with the child's concrete thinking stage. Conventional methods, such as flashcards, have proven less effective because they rely solely on memorization. This study aims to test the influence of Media Puzzle Mix and Match Multiple Number Representation on children's ability to recognize number symbols in the 5-6-year age range. This research method uses a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design involving 16 children at Al-Ikhsan Kindergarten. The experimental group consisted of 8 children using a puzzle media with six number representations, while the control group consisted of 8 children using conventional flashcards. Results: Data analysis showed a significant increase (p < 0.05) in the experimental group, with an average increase of 22.25% compared with the control group, which was only 5.75%. The conclusion of the Media Puzzle Mix-and-Match Multiple Number Representation is efficacious in improving the ability to recognize number symbols through a multisensory approach aligned with constructivist and dual-coding theories.

Abstract

Early childhood is a critical phase for cultivating character and social values, including peaceful coexistence. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the integrative thematic learning model with HAJRAH syntax (High Preparation, Action, Joining, Reaction, Assessment, High Reinforcement) in developing peace culture values in young children. Using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group, 26 kindergarten children (aged 5–6) in Makassar were divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected using a pre-test and post-test questionnaire and observation sheet validated by experts (CVI = 0.87; Cronbach's α = 0.81). The independent sample t-test revealed a significant difference between the groups (p < 0.001), with the experimental group showing a mean increase of 2.636 points in peace culture indicators (tolerance, cooperation, conflict resolution). The findings indicate that HAJRAH-based learning fosters stronger social-emotional development and peaceful behaviors in children. This model offers a promising pedagogical framework for implementing character education in early childhood settings.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness and benefits of Wordwall's Open the Box method in early childhood education. The main contribution of this research is to prove how this innovative method can increase students' participation and understanding, stimulate the development of cognitive and motor skills, and utilize technology in effective education and personalized learning. The Open the Box method is an interactive learning concept that utilizes digital technology in the teaching and learning process. In this study, we used a qualitative research design by conducting in-depth interviews with teachers who have implemented this method in their teaching. The results show that Open the Box method can increase children's participation and enthusiasm in learning, help them understand concepts better, stimulate the development of cognitive and motor skills, and show how technology can be used effectively in early childhood education. In addition, Wordwall allows personalization of learning according to each child's needs and skill level. However, this study has some limitations, such as the limited number of respondents and only focusing on one teaching method. Therefore, further research is needed to verify and extend the findings of this study, as well as explore the potential of other methods and technologies in early childhood education.
