Abstract

The high consumer interest in ornamental fish such as goldfish causes aquaculture to try to meet the highest production so that large scale aquaculture activities appear accompanied by problems due to imbalances between the host, the environment and diseases such as pathogens. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving Whole Cell Lernaea as an immunostimulant development material as an effort to prevent pathogen attacks in aquaculture. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a factorial pattern, namely factor A was different doses of Whole cell Lernaea and factor B was different length of maintenance. The results showed that the highest blood glucose levels of goldfish occurred in the 0 ppm treatment on day 0 with a range between 53.60-87.60 mg/dL and the lowest in the 5 ppm treatment on day 21 with a range between 44.20-86.60 mg/dL. Ichthyobodo spp. ectoparasite infestation. occurred on days 0 and 14 with a dose of 0 ppm which is about 2-3 ind/head different from giving a dose of 5 ppm during maintenance for 21 days there were no cases of goldfish that were attacked by ectoparasites. There was an interaction between dose and duration of maintenance on blood glucose levels of goldfish given Whole cell lernaea suspension, while there was no interaction with flagella ectoparasite infestation. The best treatment to reduce blood glucose levels to normal is the administration of Whole Cell Lernaea suspension at a dose of 5 ppm and a maintenance time of 21 days.

Abstract

Coffea canephora or robusta coffee was known as a medicinal plant that admitted various biological properties. However, its application as a medicinal plant in fish disease treatment has not been reported. This study aimed to investigate the effect of dietary robusta coffee leaf (RCL) extract on the survival rate and hematology of Cyprinus carpio infected by Aeromonas hydrophila. Two hundred fish were randomly divided into five treatment groups consisting of uninfected fish (UF), infected fish (IF), and a diet supplemented with different concentrations of RCL extract (30%, 40%, and 50%). The negative control group was injected by NaCl 0.9% and other treatment groups were injected by A. hydrophila. Feeding treatment was carried out for 7 days after clinical symptoms appeared. The results showed that RCL extract increases the survival rate and hematological parameters (number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and lymphocytes) significantly (P0.05). The highest survival rate (100%) was recorded in groups that accepted 50% of RCL extract. This current study indicates that RCL extract could be considered a potent medicinal plant for treating fish disease caused by A. hydrophila at the optimum dose of 50%.Keywords:AeromonasCoffea canephoraExtractHematologyCyprinus carpio

Abstract

Cantang grouper (Epinephelus sp.) is a fish with a high economic value and has been widely cultivated. VNN disase, caused by Betanodavirus infection, can lead to mass mortality of cantang grouper. Precautions considered effective in preventing Viral nervous necrosis (VNN) disease include vaccination. This study aimed to determine the effect of administering recombinant Chlorella vulgaris protein nanovaccine based on chitosan hybrid nanoparticles in increasing the immune response of cantang grouper infected with VNN. The study consisted of five treatments: K+ (cantang grouper infected with VNN), K- (healthy cantang grouper), T1 (healthy cantang grouper given 33 µl of nanovaccine and then challenged with VNN), T2 (healthy cantang grouper given 66 µl of nanovaccine and then tested with a VNN challenge), and T3 (healthy cantang grouper given 112 µl of nanovaccine and then tested with a VNN challenge). The parameters observed were haematology, nanovaccine Relative percent survival (RPS), and Survival rate (SR) levels. The study results showed that administering the nanovaccine increased the immune response of the fish, as indicated by an increase in haematology response, RPS, and SR in cantang grouper compared to the treatment without nanovaccine administration. The best dose of nanovaccine in this study is 33 µl. Keywords: fish disease, nanovaccines, virus, C. vulgaris, grouper

Abstract

Increased intensive cultivation of Punten Carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) is quite profitable, but on the other hand, it can result in a decrease in water quality due to uncontrolled leftover feed. Poor water quality can cause fish to become stressed then susceptible to disease, one of which is Myxobolus koi parasite infestation. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of immunostimulant treatment of whole protein Myxobolus koi spores on the blood profile of Myxobolus-infested punten carp. The method used was an experiment with two treatments, the treatment without Myxobolus koi spore whole protein (P0) and the treatment of commercial feed added with an immunostimulant from Myxobolus koi spore whole protein of 5 µg/kg feed (P1). The study was conducted for 28 days and observed on days 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28, including the calculation of the number of erythrocytes, leukocytes, leukocyte differential, and water quality as supporting data. The abundance of erythrocytes in fish treated with P1 (1.16x106 cells/mm3-2.44x106 cells/mm3) was higher than in fish treated with P0 (1.09x106 cells/mm3-1.55x106 cells/mm3). The abundance of leukocytes in fish treated with P1 (3.79x104 cells/mm3-11.31x104 cells/mm3) was higher than in fish treated with P0 (3.51x104 cells/mm3-6.58x104 cells/mm3). The results of differential observations of leukocytes in the P0 treatment found basophils (0.3-1.3%), neutrophils (12.3-21.5%), eosinophils (2.5-4.9%), lymphocytes (61.9-76.8%) and monocytes (3.8-6.3%). The results of differential observations of leukocytes in the P1 treatment found basophils (0.3-1.0%), neutrophils (10.7-19.9%), eosinophils (2.4-3.9%), lymphocytes (61.8-72.6%) and monocytes (3.9-5.4%).

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp is one of the important fisheries commodities in Indonesia. This is because vannamei shrimp are expensive, popularly consumed by people around the world, and can be cultured. However, vannamei aquaculture activities are still hampered by disease, less production, and lack of technology implementation. Kedung Pandan Village (Jabon, Sidoarjo, East Java) is one of the potential areas for v vannamei shrimp aquaculture which is also constrained by this issues, so many farmers have gone out of business. This community service activity aims to increase the productivity of vannamei shrimp cultivation by administering immunostimulants and probiotics. In its implementation, this community service activity collaborates with "Putri Mandiri", a group of vaname shrimp farmers in Kedung Pandan Village. This activity is carried out in the stages of preparation, implementation of activities (socialization-demonstration), and evaluation.  Socialization and demonstration activities were carried out on August 9 2023 and were enthusiastically participated by residents. The results of this activity indicate that the knowledge of farmers in Kedung Pandan Village, Jabon, Sidoarjo has increased and can use immunostimulants and probiotics in vannamei shrimp farming activities.
